Glamour Puss thread: Sephora, I wish I could quit you...

I got new Diorshow mascara, more Laura Mercier powder, a new Bite lipstick (in Nori) plus a new brush and a BeautyBlender (I am hooked on those things). I forgot to get some lotion and my mom asked me today to get her some Clinique stuff, so I am going back. I am THIS close to getting Rouge back.

Has anyone tried the Huda beauty eye shadow? I saw a palette that looked appealing but I also liked the Naked Heat so IDK what to get. Also! A good eye makeup primer. The Urban Decay one hasn't been working for me lately.
 
I picked up a refill of the IT cosmetics CC cream. This time I am trying the non-illuminating version.

I also got a Bite Beauty Lipstick in Pepper plus the little lip care kit with the agave mask, and lip balm in it.

My final purchase was a mini of the Becca highlighter in Vanilla Quartz. I love my Becca highlighters and this shade is only available in the mini size.

I restrained myself a bit this year with the spending but am happy with my purchases. :cheer2:
 
Because Peanut just cost me $600 in vet bills, I won't be able to partake of the 20% off. :wuzrobbed

But...I had 20% off at Ulta a couple weeks ago and got two of the UD Heavy Metal glitter eyeliners (Punk Rock and Sticks and Stones), Smashbox lipstick in Booked (actually, I think I got this at Sephora), and the new UD mascara, the name of which is currently escaping me. It's okay, but I probably won't buy it again. It's difficult to get off.
 
Does anyone have any NYX products they love and can’t live without? We just got a giant store here and I’m curious
 
After taking a six month hiatus from buying new makeup, I took serious advantage of the 20% off at Sephora. It's so much fun to have new makeup again. :glamor: I got some Becca highlighters (the Opal mini and the Champagne Dream Light Chaser) after coveting them for ages, the ABH Brow Whiz in Taupe, Dr. Jart BB Beauty Balm, UD concealer, Stila Glitter Glow liquid shadow set, the Bite Champagne Discovery lip set, and the Bite Prismatic Pearl gloss in bronze. Also got to pick up the Tarte mini blush and lip paint for my birthday.

Fun as Sephora is, I did go to the Macy's Chanel counter to splurge on a new mascara. Mascara and concealer are the only two things I use on an almost daily basis, so I'm always searching for the best. After using Too Faced Better Than Sex, Benefit They're Real!, Stila Huge Extreme Lash, and a myriad of other brands, I've found that the Chanel Le Volume is my favorite. It plumps the lashes without being too thick and doesn't flake off throughout the day. I got a $30 Macy's credit and may go back for the plum color (called "Character") if I decide I'm brave enough to try it.

Their lipsticks and eyeliners are the best--wide shade ranges and good pigmentation. The blushes are good too--the eye shadows can be hit or miss. (They used to be great about 10 years ago, but the quality is more iffy now.)

I have never had much luck with their mascaras, sadly.

Their Soft Matte lip cream is also very popular, if you like that look.

I would suggest one or more of his acid peels. There are several and they vary in strength and frequency of application. For instance, my skin isn't very sensitive so I use his alpha beta medi spa peel that's a weekly use but am also adding a regular strength daily peel to use in between.

It really improves the texture and fresh appearance of skin. You know that "glass skin" trend? That's how you get it at home vs. shelling out hundreds of dollars for a Hydrofacial (which is quite spectacular but pricey.)
You may have to either talk to a rep or decide for yourself how sensitive your skin is and how well it can take chemical exfoliation when deciding what strength to buy. You can always return at Sephora! :)

I have not tried any of his moisturizers or antioxidant treatments, I prefer SkinMedica and Skinceuticals respectively.
 
In Florida my skin was great. The humidity did wonders! My pores were smaller, not so dark and full of gunk, and my skin was a bit glowy. Back home and it's dry and blech. @IceAlisa, would one of those Dr Gross peels be a good idea? I have some Paula's Choice BHA/AHA cleansers and whatnot but I notice it's just even more drying so I'm not sure if I should bother.
 
I love them so yes, I think they are a great idea. The medi-spa peel comes with a neutralizing milk but I recommend to put on additional moisturizer afterwards on top.

If anything, they prevent dry skin by exfoliating dead skin away.

I have just one Paula’s Choice product and find it quite useless.
 
Re Dr. Gross... I started by by trying both the universal ones and the gentle ones in the 7 day kit. I found I could tolerate the regular strength, so have been buying that in bulk. I did use up the gentle ones for times when I had any irritation or zits. I follow with a few drops of his ferulic acid/ retinol oil, then my moisturizer du jour.

Watch for his sampler kits. You get extra add ons to try at a very good price.
 
I bought the weekly peels this time rather than the daily: space is at a premium in our bathroom and it's easier to remember once a week. But I also swear by Dr Gross, I really look younger after a treatment.

Why do I break out in the US? And yay for the little Neutrogena blemish tube, but still.

It's all my mother's fault, I swear. She lives abroad and being the good daughter that I am, I went to buy her the foundation she wanted. But I cannot resist the temptation :drama: she got foundation; I got another Bite Beauty lipstick (Verbena), the Naked3 palette I have been coveting, new eye primer and a new eyeliner. I am now banning myself from Sephora until the new year, unless I run out of something critical, like foundation. On the plus side, I am VIB Rouge again.

@PRlady, you should try CorsRX Pimple patches. You pop one on top of a zit before bed and it's reduces the inflammation notably by the morning. They work amazing for the big, angry pimples I get during my period.

My skin has been worse from the age of 19-to present than it was when I was a puberty-ridden teenager. I have seen multiple dermatologists and was told it was both cystic acne and rosacea. I have tried zapping it as acne and being kind to it as rosacea with mixed results.

I have had periods of time where I was able to clear up my skin, and then times where I have 4-6 large and angry red lumps on my chin and nose at a time (mostly tied to hormones, but not always.) I am very fair skinned, so the angry red lumps are hard to cover up. Plus, it HURTS.

I can't take hormonal birth control due to multiple problems that I had when I was on it, so I take a low dose of antibiotics (doxycycline) and that takes the edge off of my problems. The only good thing about having oily/acne prone skin as an adult is that I have very few wrinkles for someone my age (39.) I am also very religious about eye cream. :)
 
That's true. I'm not very wrinkled for a lifelong smoker and tanner, it's the oily olive skin I guess.

@fan for NYX I love their Ultimate Shadow palettes. The bights one is fun, and for $18 its not much of an investment for shades you will probably only wear now and then. The warm neutrals is very dupy for Naked Heat.

speaking of magnetic eyelashes, I just discovered that these things are under $20 on amazon? I am still very skeptical. I have never worn falsies, and I think they will probably look strange? did anyone ever try? It seems there are lots of different ones.

I got the make up for ever HD foundation for the Sephora sale. I really like it, I got a sample in my Sephora play box, and I then I went and got color matched, with something more neutral/yellow which surprised me. but it fits my face, whereas the more pink one fits my arm. I maybe have to switch when my summer color fades? In any case, it is really lightweight and very nice.
 
I've heard very mixed reviews on the magnetic eyelashes.

People seem to either love them or hate them.

I've also heard that they take a bit of practice to get them on correctly.

That's probably the same with all false eyelashes though.... :shuffle:
 
I remember a very early episode of America's Next Top Model where they showed the contestants how to apply false lashes. One of the recommendations for normal use was cutting them into 1/4 inch sections and only applying to the outer half of the lash line. It really cuts down on the hassle as it's pretty easy to apply the small segments.
 
You can buy individual lashes too which I think would be easier.

Lisa Eldridge uses those a lot in her tutorials and shows how to apply them.
 
I wore them every day when I had no eyelashes, and didn't really notice them after about two minutes. They are a bit trickier to get on now that my lashes are back, so I only wear them on special occasions, but again, after about two minutes, I don't notice.
