Okay, I am no specialist in this topic; but I know at least of athletes being part of no national team at all who had to sign up into some pool to get tested in case they qualify for Universiade (in that particular case).
On another example, there is a former sprinter, injured 3yrs, lost any team fundin, no part of team again and is still getting tested (according to IG).

But yeah, I think we 2 won't find all answers to this; as usual, there might be some exceptions.
(very shocking for german correct bureaucracy though )
I guess we can agree on that you are probably not getting into the NADA system, if your fed. has not released you, which obviously has not taken place. DEU at the moment has probably a hand full of work with the Droyzen accusations.

I just read this article about Nebelhorn trophy and if those information are true it'll be a bigger event than the last years but I wonder where all these teams should come from... 17 pairs and 20 dance teams seems unrealistic

From the official anoucement by ISU, there'll be max 16 Pairs
There will, in principle, be a total of 30 competitors in each individual discipline, 16 Pairs and 25 Ice Dance couples.
Probably Oberstdorf is counting the Subs, too.

I hope for German skate-offs , at least in ID.

It took a while, but: official statement by german fed on the Droysen case:

Main parts:
  • german fed intensively deals with the allegations of Droysen
  • to date there are no further statements, which confirm Droysen's accusations
  • fed demanded further written reports by people having been close to them
  • last year german fed updated 'safe sport' regulations according to DOSB (national olympic comittee) and named represantatives
  • these represantives are dealing with the case and have tried to get in contact with Droysen
  • no contact so far though
  • As Droysen left the national team 2018, he was asked (written) for reasons and did not respond to that
  • fed denies the information (spread by media) that Fajfr is not alonger allowed to work with minors, there isn't such resolution
  • in near future there will be conversations with parents of Oberstdorf skaters to sensitize them and to train their attention and mindfulness.

According to the the more detailed provisional time schedule (on the DEU page), they do seem to expect bigger fields at Nebelhorn Trophy this year, last year there were lots of breaks between the competition parts, which also started later in the afternoon and also the ending time for Thursday and Friday are rather late. But I expect some people to withdraw, so that the final time schedule probably will not be as full as it is planned now :p

Anyway Jason Brown and Ryom & Kim are already nice entries :) And I feel like I've seen Bychenko like 25 times live by now

Anyone else planning to attend?

Check post#122 and the listed article; some entries are mentioned there.

Maybe we can move the NHT talk/info/discussion in the actual CS thread instead of here?

Some photos from the senior monitoting (seems to be pairs and one dance team only)

I like the look of Müller/Dieck. What are the odds this is the actual competition outfit?

German fed can't update their homepage nor the nomination criteria, but hey, they made it to Instagram at least :D
Kunkel looks grown. That's good.

Yesterday mdr (regional network) showed a best of Riverboat, talk show, amongst others Jutta Müller, 1998, around 15' for approx. 10 min., available until 16.08.2020

A bit time-capsule-like ...

Jutta Müller won German Championships in Women Pair Artistic roller skating and Figure Skating after the War (only women pairs because of shortage of men)

short discussion why no same sex pairs nowadays (Hella von Sinnen, openly gay)

Talk about weight issues in figure skating. In Müllers view a tedious issue, but weight is of utmost importance, if you have to jump, and land the jumps. What about chocolate and Kati Witt? Kati liked chocolate and ice cream. Müller said, it happened, she threw Kati's ice on the pavement, but compromised and told her: After the championships we'll visit every ice parlour, and you can have as much ice cream as you like.

What about dicipline in FS? – in Witt's case: Good team all together – parents, teachers, coaches, all pulled together in the same direction

Who is easier to work with? Boys or girls? – Boys

What's the contribution of a coach for the success of an skater, can you name a share? – Can't name percentage. Skater needs talent, of course. Particularly in terms of ability to jump, "Schnellkraft" (how explosive), musicallity, appeal to audience, ability to impress judges. A coach develops these talents, has a big part in it. She always knew two years in advance, which music Kati will skate to, which costume to wear, with which hairdo.

Training: How many hours/days? – She talks about compulsory figures (dreadful segment in her view), which wasn't Kati's main strength, as she is a very vivid person. She is interupted by a guest (1), who wants to know, if their privileged life in the GDR was an issue, if they were thinking about it. – No, we didn't. What do you mean by privileged? Do you think about travelling? We travelled because of work: flight, hotel, putting on the skates and skate ..., again she's interrupted – But they facilitated everything for you, you had advantages because Kati was poster girl of GDR. – Well, you're right: I only waited 5 years for my Wartburg instead of 10. And it's true, we were looked after, and other sportswomen and men. We got food, we needed, healthy nutrition is important for success.

What was your take on GDR (again this particular guest asking)? – I was born there, I've lived there (audience is clapping), I felt, they need me here, I had skaters, waiting for me, depending on me. I've never thought about defection.

Another guest: You're daughter was never allowed to skate with Holiday in ice. Later on Kati Witt was allowed. Was it hard for you? – Yes, it was very hard for me. I thought by 1970, that Gaby should be able to use figure skating as a profession. So I went everywhere to get permission, again and again. It wasn't possible. It seemed like, the word "show" was something despicable. This word didn't exist in GDR. The Word "Ice Revue" wasn't appropriate, somehow. I didn't succeed. I'm happy that eventually Kati got to do Holiday on Ice.

Did you have a look at Playboy issue whith Kati's photos in it? – Of course.

One older guy (2) is complementing her on her looks, and wants to know, if she can teach him and his collegue figure skating. Some bantering about the need of zimmer frames. She invites them to Chemnitz.

----
(1) the guy pestering her with GDR-past: Jürgen Domian, who hosted back then a dial-in radio show at midnight. Always praised for his listening abilities. Not a great listener alfter all, it appears.

(2) The older guys: comedian Karl Dall and Peter Ehlebracht (both were part of Insterburg & Co.)

In today's taz there's an update on the Fajfr/Droysen story: https://taz.de/!5616084/

excerpts translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator

In the case of the accusations of the former Oberstdorf figure skater Isaak Droysen against his former coach Karel Fajfr, the Deutsche Eislauf-Union DEU has now started an internal reappraisal, contrary to its original statements. According to its own statements, the sports association has requested written statements from persons in the environment of the two skaters, which has not yet been completed.
...
Karel Fajfr rejects the accusations [...]. "At no time have I slapped, beaten or humiliated Isaak Droysen, nor have I used any form of psychological or physical violence against him." According to the 75-year-old, this could not have remained hidden in a much frequented ice rink. According to his lawyer, he has filed criminal charges against his former sportsman for defamation and deliberate false suspicions and is also considering civil action.

DEU says, contact with Isaak Droysen himself had not yet been established.

According to Droysen, his non-answers have a simple reason. And this could shake the structure of the DEU even more than the accusations of abuse: The letters of the DEU to him had carried the signature of the sports director Udo Dönsdorf. "I then entered his name into Google and saw that an athlete had accused him of sexual assault years ago." The affected athlete even tried to take his own life in 2009. Dönsdorf had only admitted a "tongue kiss", but denied further sexual incidents.

A paragraph about expected retirement of Dönsdorf due to his age and then the extention of his employment contract, "allegedly because there had been no qualified applications in response to the job advertisement". taz says, insiders speak of a completely different reason: there were other applicants, but a cultural change towards a younger and more feminine leadership might not have been intended.

A paragraph about weather or not the competitive sports commission had decided, that Fajfr is no longer allowed to train underage national cadre athletes.

A reader contacted taz.
and spoke of a similar case in Berlin. At the Olympic base in Hohenschönhausen, "highly responsible coaches of the Ice Skating Union, who have recently become active, humiliating and insulting one (...) on the ice, and one is forced to endure that", the letter says. Parents' complaints had led to athletes losing out. DEU managing director Alexander Wetzel rejects this. Research on site in Berlin had shown that the "coaches" "are characterised by an extremely responsible and respectful way of dealing with the athletes".

Nominations criteria were published

Different this year.

Euros (1 men/lady/dance team, 2 pairs)
- #eurosrace: sum of 3 best events is counting (GP, CS and nationals)

Worlds (1 men/lady/dance team, 2 pairs)
- men/lady/dance: euros finish top 12 or euros finish with SB (GP or CS) --> worlds ticket
If not: there might be a skate-off with the 2nd placed of #eurosrace; result of skate-off will be added to the #eurosrace (so 4 events counting then)
- pairs: reaching euros final --> worlds ticket

Junior Worlds: #juniorrace: 2 best events counting (JGPm nationals and listed junior events by german fed)

---

Tougher criteria this season with 3 (of 4) events counting; so you can only **** up one.
I don't get why pairs is different to the rest: maybe it's already clear that P/B can't skate internationally or H/K stay junior. Otherwise the different criteria seems kinda unfair for me.

I approve that a bad euros result is not a killer for worlds and results from #eurosrace are counting towards worlds. Seems pretty fair for german standards :D

Might be tough for Weinzierl being injured and missing the first half of CS in total.

So who is the alleged 'bad' DEU-coach in Berlin?
Caruso? Who else is new up there?
I can't believe it's Caruso - he is a real nice guy. I've heard rumours that Koenig has treated the daughter of sports minister Seehofer badly and she has quit pair skating in cause of that. Koenig is new in Berlin, so that would make sense. But still I don't know first-hand, it's just rumours.

Nikita Starostin had to withdraw from JGP Courchevel because of injury, but he is recovering well according to his coach. He is back training. I might check on him on Saturday. 🙃

Mixed outings at 1st JGP of the season in SP:
Gurdzhi (8th) seemed really improved; I actually liked this program. Good overall skating, not so good spins today though. He fought hard for the combo. Well done. Remain top10!
Suleymanova (25th) with really rough outing; popped both jumps in the combo, pcs still with a lot rooms for improvement.

I agree, Gurdzhi did really well, I like the program and the music suits him well. He improved his skating skills compared to last season, lots of speed and nice choreography. A shame that the 2A doesn't look like he could learn the 3A soon and the spins were indeed a struggle (not the camel spin though which was really nice). But it is early in the season, so I don't want to blame him too much for that.
Suleymanova messed up totally the combo, maybe she was really nervous, this was her first time at a big competition. Let's see if she can show a better FS, either way she improved a lot in the jumps compared to last season, although the low PCS were justified, unfortunately she has a lot of work to do to improve her PCS. But I don't want to be too harsh on her as it is her first season at juniors level.

Luft/Schuster sitting in 11/18 with 48,32pts
To be honest, this was underwhelming. They looked pretty pissed at the scores. I have no clue what they did expect?
She looks even more rough on edges and heavy in her overall skating compared to last season. He looks the same to me (which was not great either); bad costumes and constant sing-along did not help either.

Suleymanova ended up 24/35 with 121,34pts
(video link missing on jgp youtube page)
Well, her pcs lack a lot, but I approve she went all in: lutz, flip, late 3-3 combo in the program. Overall I prefer good skills, but in the end Eudine & Co. have no jump weapons and not much superior skills, so 🤷‍♂️
