Abbott was 8th in PCS and 24th in TES in the official scoring.

Ha ha. For bailing on two jumps, such low TES is not deserved. He deserved to be down, of course, but not that far. Also, the official 8th in PCS was questionable too, with his skill and talent which was on display aside from him losing his nerve and calm going into those two jumps. Which of course is unforgiveable, but the judges were piling on heavily.

Reminds me of Nathan Chen at 2018 Olympics being dropped to 17th by the judges for his unforgiveable sp transgressions. The judges definitely seemed to ensure that Nathan didn't get too close to the podium even after his boffo fp. :rollin:

But anyway, 17th helped Nathan kick his nerves to the curb. :kickass:

Judge no.4 gave Contesti 8.00 in SS ;)

Thank you everyone for a fun night, and especially @Jeschke and everyone who organized this. SO GOOD! Thank you judges! This was a first for FSU, right? I agree the format is good, looking forward to the FS! :cheer2:

 at how out of line I was with my scoring of Lindemann. I really don't think he deserved to be down in 19th place.

I'm a sucker for deep knee bend, I guess.

Ah, Abbott. All that unfulfilled potential.

It was never about Jeremy's 'potential' being unfulfilled, mind you. And fyi: he's still skating with mesmerizing talent still on display. Don't short-change Jeremy because he didn't have the luck and the nervy gumption when he needed it most.

Every time I watch this skate, I think maybe this time, only to be disappointed again.

Well just watch his 2010 U.S. Nationals sp instead then. :D

I am still surprised he made the cut and not even close for original judges!

Seriously? Hmmm, not even under the current system should he be dropped that far. He did land his opening combo and he was on in the rest of the program, except for psychologically bailing on 3-axel and 3-flip rotations for no apparent reason (perhaps aside from being told he could win it all, and maybe due to having peaked at U.S. Nationals).

Seriously? Johnny Weir had a talent for always 'standing out,' whether you think so or not, whether you like him or obviously NOT. :violin:

Actually, I do like Johnny Weir. And maybe his costumes and off-ice comments made him stand out, but I was talking about his skating in this particular SP compared to the other skaters. Feel free to tell me how his jumps, spins, steps, PCS, or whole package elevate him above this group of skaters as they performed these programs.

I thought he skated very well for himself at the Vancouver Olympics. I also think that other skaters' skating was at a higher level than his. YMMV.

Fair enough. Bottom line: figure skating is soooo subjective and political. Plus, the intricacies of technique, the maniacal manipulations of PCS, and the general obfuscation and witchery woo of the scoring system combined with skaters' depth of talent at that time and even more-so today makes the sport and this men's event in particular near impossible to fairly judge.* Keeping in mind as well that Mr. Johnny G. Weir has always been like an itch that refuses to be scratched.

*Of course, the almighty Quad later threw a mf'ing wrench in the mix that still exists in all its machinations and diabolical devilry. And it all began post-2010 Olympics men's fp. :watch:

I can barely wait to re-traverse that next memory lane @Jeschke. Thanks again!

Eh, Johnny wasn't that far off his best form. But those who think so will continue to think as they please. :D U.S. fed were certainly hoping they could ditch Johnny for Ryan Bradley that year. Tee hee. NOT!

I always enjoy when people think their feelings matter under IJS. Fortunately, the maths doesn't work that way. He blew a ton of points on those errors. The low TES is deserved. He did not meet the requirements for a Senior Men's short program and got appropriately penalised for it.

But anyway, 17th helped Nathan kick his nerves to the curb. :kickass:

Such a shame the same could not be said about Abbott, who went on to fcuk up a second Olympics after this.

Eh :blah: Your opinion cuz you're so special.

And seriously funny the way you pick and choose who you look down on and judge harshly based on your personal feelings. Guess that's what makes you so entitled to serve as tech specialist.

I judged everyone with the same level of harshness, as evidenced by other calls in this event, including one where I was overruled on taking a combo away from a skater.

And noting that Abbott fcuked up both Olympics is not an opinion, it's clear basic fact.

Right, just as I said, you make the best tech specialist judge because you're so perfectly harsh and special. And so factually observant, and only the skaters you uber are worth a da*n. Naturally. :blah:

At least Mr. Jeremy Abbott made it to two Olympics, eh! Ahem! As we know, many try but few succeed in winning the opportunity once, much less twice. :D Meanwhile, bonehead self-inflicted fcukery can happen to skaters and to anybody. Sadly, especially in those Murphy's Law moments when their years dreaming of being at their best are suddenly and irrevocably dashed. It's probably better to not put all one's dreams in one basket. Being a competitive skater definitely requires living life on the edge.

Guess that's why it's easier to be sitting on one's fat a$$ in a seat on a judging panel. Of course, not all FSU or ISU judges are freakin' overbearing a**hats. Most are fairly decent, reasonably judicious, and many definitely do try hard, particularly when they can separate their emotions from their judgement skills and their expected political scoring from their courage. :COP:

Yes, he did. And we all knew he was going to screw up the second. At least I can take pride knowing none of the skaters I uber would ever have reacted to a giant cock up like his team event SP with a flippant remark about it being just a warmup.

Oh, see, I can already tell that just like your beloved Weir, you have no idea of the meaning of hard work. Particularly, how much work it takes to actually train as a judge or a tech specialist. Or how much work it even takes to train as a skater. You're one of those sanctimonious cows who sits in front of their computer all day long pontificating about how a skater who performed two invalid elements should not be marked down in TES just because you like him and because you said so it must be right and anyone who says otherwise is wrong, even though you've made it abundantly clear you don't know the first thing about judging under IJS.

It's been amusing to read through this thread. Rather funny how it dissovled into arguments once everything was finished. Just like a normal PBP thread.

As a judge, I think I learned more about COP from this exercise than from anything else. Sorry that some seem to be under the conclusion that judging was based upon our feelings about the skaters. Speaking for myself, I'll say that's untrue.

If the same judges are allowed to do the FS, I'll be happy to be one, and I'll even TRY to do it faster this time.

Oh, @misskarne, be careful. Don't say that too loud. Every time I've confidently proclaimed that "No one I'm a fan of would ever . . ." it's come back to bite me. The universe enjoys throwing statements like that back in our faces.
