Random thoughts. I really like Efimova&Korovim SP.
Maybe I'm projecting, but it reminds me Valova&Vasiliev. :)
I really like their skating generally, but I am a bit worried that because of Efimova’s jumps, they will be overtaken with the wave of juniors who are now going to be aging out of juniors. This year it is the best chance for E/K to get to Europeans and worlds because they will be fighting for the third spot only with Boikova/Kozlovski, Mishina/Galliamov and Pavliuschenko/Khodykhin. If they don’t grab this chance, I don’t think they will have a chance to go to a championship another season. But their silver medal at their GP made me hopeful.

Even though they won the silver at SA and executed the pairs elements well, their inability to land sbs jumps was quite obvious. Alisa fell on the sbs 2A and both of them made mistakes on the sbs triple salchows. Nobody does only double axels these days.

I like this pair but I don't see a future for them at the senior level.

They could get lucky and win another silver in a GP, and make it to the GPF, but this is really their last chance to make it to the Euros and/or Worlds. I don't see them mastering the triples. Oddly, when she is thrown into a triple salchow, she lands it easily. She just can't do it on her own.

That reminds me of how Kristi Yamaguchi had so much trouble navigating the triple salchow as a solo jump, yet had few issues with it as a throw. The speculation being, that the timing and set up of the throw generated by her partner, was different from how she did it alone.

Very nice interview with Elizaveta Tuktamysheva: As Long As I Feel Strength I Will Fight
About Olympics in Sochi
– The toughest period was before the Olympic Games in Sochi. I had a transitional age. The first problem is to keep weight. When the body is growing it’s normal to gain weight. You just need to go through it. And of course be more attentive to your diet. But do not focus to much. Once I had quite a rigid diet. And it still did not help, because I had mental problems. I don’t know how it works, but when you let go of the situation and don’t think that you ate something extra, the body itself starts to work harmoniously.
The second problem – all the sensations on the ice are changing too. Often you just don’t feel your body. At this moment, the main thing is not to lose the desire to skate. You have to understand that everyone goes through this. Don’t give up on yourself. Jumps and technique can be restored. Everyone goes through it too.
The third problem is in mind. This is my case. In general, I constantly do self-digging, and then there’s was home Olympiad. Everyone around — journalists, fans, experts were “sending” me to Sochi. I also really wanted to go and perform there well. But in my case, I have to take everything very calmly.

About triple axel and quads
- As a child I had no fear of jumping. This is the first important point. And the second – I learned axel with Alexei Nikolayevich. Any professional will say that he is the best axel specialist.
We also tried quads when I was very young. Quad toe loop. It was underrorated, plus problems with the landing. Of course, I could learn it. But it was the time when Ksenia Doronina was skating (two-time Russian champion, the best result at the international level – 9th place at Euro 2008), Irina Slutskaya finished just recently, and my content of triple axel and combinations triple-triple was more than enough. We worked on consistency. The quad wasn’t needed then. It was a period when I had no one to catch up in technique.
To jump the quad, you have to be absolutely fearless. By the way, this is an advantage for children – they cannot assess the risks adequately. I remember myself, it was really cool to jump, no fears, including due to the fact that the maternal instinct wasn’t turned on. If I started to learn some quadruple jump now, I would be scared. There was a period when I was afraid to perform even a triple axel, which I have known since childhood. I didn’t skate for a long time because of back problems, I forgot feelings and didn’t know what to expect. And when you do not know what to expect, fear immediately appears.

About changes in women’s skating
– Recently I’ve been thinking about my rivals at the Russian Nationals – that’s where it will be interesting. 7-8 people will claim for a medal. And each can perform very well at the international level. Not so long ago it was hard to imagine such a situation.
What has changed? Everyone saw that small children are able to perform difficult elements, that it is possible to send more young figure skaters to senior competitions, so that they would understand how everything works there.
Each wants to win, each wants to compete at a high level. And when you see that some two little girls jumped out and beat everyone, you think: “Why not me?”. Of course, immediately everyone began to fight, to get involved, believed that it’s really possible to become better.
This is a great motivation. Personally, I have a huge desire to go on the ice and show myself and what I can do. As long as I feel strength I will fight, skate and at any case I won’t get angry or pity myself if someone from juniors beats me. That’s right – the girl made three quadruples, for example, and deservedly can be higher. My goal is perfect women’s skating.
I respect Sasha Trusova very much. The child is a genius in some sense.

Me too! There are so many little transitions and cool moves. Go E/K! (Also, pairs with sbs 2A’s in comic programs make me sentimental for my favorite Russian pair ever...I think you know who I’m talking about).

Tarasova has outdone herself with this latest interview.
/.../
I also think it is immensely ego-centric of her to assume that the personal difficulties of some Northern American skaters are due to Trusova being thinner than them....

Well, when somebody thanked Yagudin for "bringing Tatiana Anatolievna back to the ground" (Grishin, Tarasova and Yagudin commented ladies) - and added, that it is impossible to listen TAT talking only about Medvedeva - Yagudin answered: "You can tell your opinion, when you'll be a commentator. Now figure skating guru Tatiana Anatolievna is a commentator!"
Yagudin can correct Tarasova (so that people even thank him for that), yet he also thinks he should correct those people who trash Tarasova's commentary. :)
He is right. It's OK, that Tarasova isn't perfect. She shouldn't be perfect. :)

When they commented girls together for the Channel One.
Oh, he didn't say Tarasova was wrong, he only managed to interrupt her speech and to say: "the main thing, we congratulate Elizaveta Tuktamysheva on taking the gold medal".

:) Yet the main thing, Yagudin thinks, that those who don't like Tarasova's opinion, can tell their opinion when they will be invited to be commentators.

Alexey Erokhov (listed today as withdrawn from GP Finland) had rough SP at Finlandia Trophy but landed 3A+3T, 3A, 4T+2T & 4T in his FS (4th in that segment, 7th overall) -- was he injured afterwards?

He was injured before test skates while at Novogorsk which is why he didn't perform there. Maybe he never fully healed or got injured afterwards. He seems injury prone.

What's going on with Erokhov?
Still injured? :drama:
No, just not ready, because he had previous injury during summer. Reading various sites, i think he is wondering if he should stay in skating, for his own reasons, it is not a fact but an estimate. But we'll see...

Also, re Radionova's withdraw fr GP Japan and Leonova to replace her, there are some news posted in Russian press about that. But the ISU list has not yet been changed.

It's 12.50 now: https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/th...e-of-values-levels-and-goe-guidelines.103984/
ETA: 4A used to have a BV of 15.0.

Leonova has replaced Radionova in the NHK ladies entry list dated Oct. 29: http://www.isuresults.com/events/cat03108896.htm

Oh, come on. I know Leonova somewhere had a PB higher than Serafima, but Sima was next in line right behind her. Leonova is over and done. Sima is at least showing a resurgence and has momentum. Leonova was a good skater in 2012 I'll grant that, as she was a world medalist, but rewarding her with a GP when there are FAR more deserving Russians looking into the future just stupifies me.

I agree about Leonova, plus i never liked her or her skating to begin with, but she is officially next in line, by rules and proper process, it is rightfully her spot. And if Sima (who is much better imo) is showing improvement, then she should keep on showing it and try to surpass Leonova while working towards the next season. Leonova collected credits from past events which allow her to be next, it is not about "who we like better or more improved".

Fun fotos: Zhenya Medvedeva has another product advert: Japanese diet powder drink "Botanical Tapioca Cleanse" (it is a 40% to 50% off coupon for the young ladies to try the product). She has a new hair style and her early-2017 LP dress (my favorite out of many).

New interviews with Tuktamysheva and Mishin after Skate Canada, both translated by FS-gossips

Elizaveta Tuktamysheva: Let The World Watch The Battle Of Medvedeva And Zagitova, And I’ll Skate A Little Bit
About Andrei Lazukin
Training together helps. The woman is a very unstable animal, Andrei and I stabilize each other emotionally. When there are bad practices, the partner can always encourage. It’s nice when a close person skates near.

About work with Mishin
I’m grateful to the fate that life has turned out this way and I met him, because he is a great man. I look at him and understand what I can learn from him. Probably, patience. Because I’m very impatient person, I react quickly to things that haven’t been fully disclosed yet, and then turn out to be a fool.

About goals for the season
There is a goal now to have such a mindset so I could compete at more serious competitions, so I try to keep myself in the most stable psychological state before the competitions.
Let the world watch the battle of Zhenya Medvedeva and Alina Zagitova, and I’ll skate a little bit. When you go on the ice, you think only about yourself, not about who skated and how.
My mission is to give people hope that there is always a chance to overcome everything.
Many people ask me whether I’m sad that I didn’t get to the Olympics. I think it isn’t everything. You can win and be a great athlete, not being an Olympic champion.
So, at this stage I have a goal to perform well in the Russian Nationals and at the World and European Championships, if I get there.
I don’t have a goal that I definitely want to go to the next Olympics. The goal is to skate cool and clean, and then start a family and continue to skate.
Original video-interview: https://vk.com/vremya.sutok?w=wall-155700240_2502

Alexei Mishin: The Judges See The World Record And Score It Negatively
Alexei Mishin about Elizaveta Tuktamysheva and Evgenia Medvedeva’s performances at Skate Canada 2018.
– It was one of Lisa’s best short programs she’ve ever done, and that anyone has ever done in women’s skating. Because nobody jumps such an axel.
Paradoxically, but large gap created in the short program prevented her to do great in the free. She said she didn’t want to miss the victory. But after the competitions she said that her friends shouldn’t hope that she will skate the free program like that again.

Elizaveta admitted that she was very nervous before the free program. What words the coach need to find to calm down the athlete?
– If I tell you those words, they will no longer work.
Tatiana Tarasova called judges thieves, you also expressed dissatisfaction with judging. What are your claims about?
– Perhaps the judges who worked at Skate Canada have never seen such a good axel, which Liza Tuktamysheva performed. But at the same time they gave her “-1” for it. They see the world record with their own eyes and score it negatively. An athlete who has such an element in her program is an athlete from another era. In her victorious season, Liza also did this axel, back then she was already from another era. Hundreds jump triples, only a few jump triple axel.
Another Japanese skater 15-year-old Mako Yamashita showed herself in Canada and took second place. What can you say about her?
– There is nothing amazing about her skating, but Yamashita is an excellent all-around skater, she has all the elements at a very good level.
Evgenia Medvedeva unsuccessfully skated the short program, but brilliantly in the free, which allowed her to take the third place.
– So write, Evgenia showed that she is a great fighter.

Is there any chance we see Pogo at one of the other challengers this fall?
There is a national competition, Cup of Russia (Russian Cup?), Segment IV, coming up on Nov. 6th.
The initial info was that Pogo will be participating (and Kovtun and few others). No final list yet.

just an FYI, Pogo's last name is now "Pogoryliaya-Nevskaya", since she got married. And in some social media venues she is just Anna Nevskaya.
