Ok everyone..I was just wondering about something... We don't hear much these days about Figure Skating Competitions in Prague since 1961 when we lost the entire World Team in the plane crash. So does anyone know if that country or the part of Prague that was suppose to have the 1961 Worlds still hosts World Figure Skating Championships or Figure Skating Competitions in any way? Thanks.

Hi. Other than the next year, after the tragedy, 1962, Prague hosted Worlds in 1993 and will next host it in 2026. Prague also hosted Europeans in 1988 and 1999.

Ostrava, Czech Rep, hosted 2003 Jr Worlds and 2017 Europeans…and a JrGP event soon (9/4-7). Ostrava is a city in the NE area, near the border with Poland.

Ex-Czech Republic’s Bratislava, now capital of Slovak Republic, hosted Worlds in 1973. It also hosted Euros in 1948 - won by USA’s Dick Button - and 1966.

The Nepela Challenger Trophy is held in the Slovak Rep, Nepela’s home.
