Fall 2022-Summer 2023 New/Returning TV/Streaming Shows

Rich Strike’s story is coming to Prime Video.
Wonder if they’ll call it “80 to 1.” Seriously, it’s a good story especially with some earlier tragedies for his connections. It’s too bad he has not run well since the Derby but he still has that win.

At least both horses will always have their Derby wins. Hopefully Rich Strike will also have a forever home with his owners. Just a side note 50-1 stars William Devane one of my all time favourite actors. He seems to be retired now.

I hope so! Every horse should be as lucky as Mine That Bird and the horses at Old Friends.

Please post any updates I may have missed.

If you’re into British mystery series, I highly recommend it. It has all the Silent Witness and Father Brown episodes, and newer series from gritty to cozy.

I’m currently watching the old Pie in the Sky series, also Grace and Sister Boniface.

They also have Call the Midwife and some comedies.

It’s worth trying for a month and see.

I love Britbox. Good old stuff and good new stuff, too.

I just watched The Mustang on Netflix and am now a weepy mess. My goodness. I've been wanting to watch it for a while and finally got to do it. I'm going to be super puffy-eyed on Mother's Day.

It was a beautiful movie. And Matthias Schoenaerts is so amazing.

I need something light and airy now. Any recommendations? I was toying with watching Queen Charlotte but I don't know if I'm up to it, because I might get annoyed at the Shondaland melodrama. Thoughts?

I loved Queen Charlotte even more than the regular Bridgerton. I thought it had wonderful depth and story for just six episodes. It really touched my heart.

I enjoyed it too. Now I kind of wonder how much of that was a true representation of what happened. And I was never remotely interested in Queen Charlotte before this.

But I have to say this: the most unbelievable part of that show isn't that the King married a black woman but that Charlotte's keepers knew how to style her hair properly from day one.

I like suspense type shows but not horror. "From" is labeled as horror and has some really icky scenes which are easy to anticipate and look away and there isn't an excessive amount of them. So I can watch this without too many problems. It is mostly mystery and suspense. Season 1 is free on Prime and I binged it all today because I couldn't stop. I am dying to know what happens season 2 but you need a subscription for MGM to see it.

I have a couple friends that had told me about it and they may have an MGM subscription. I also described it to my sister as a show recommendation and she got hooked on it first. She said the same thing I did in my first paragraph. I'm not sure if she has an MGM subscription but I really, really need to find someone that does so I can find out what happens next.

Very little. This is Bridgerton-land where any resemblence to actual history is purely coincidental.

Which isn't a criticism. I am enjoying Queen Charlotte, but you have to accept that it's very much a re-imagining of that era of British history and makes The Tudors look historically accurate in comparison.

It was so nice to get my internet back yesterday and be able to watch Hulu again; it will not stream with a phone as a hot spot for the internet connection. So I caught up on the latest episode of Grey’s Anatomy. I had quit watching a couple years ago but caught up during the pandemic. It’s quite pleasant now even though it’s still a soap opera. I like that there’s a fresh batch of young interns living in Meredith’s house.

Well if you enjoy Matthias have you watched "A Little Chaos?" He is yummy in that.

I was thinking of things that could be more verifiable. Like which of her kids married when and had which children. I tried looking it up but the so many kids and so much sharing of names, I got very confused. :D

I assume all the thoughts and motivations were probably made up as who could know those things? But maybe some of the parties were on record about certain points. For example, I read that King George said that he fell in love with Queen Charlotte in the garden when he caught her trying to climb over the wall. So that part -- which I was sure was made up -- was actually true!

I finished  Dalgleish on Acorn today and loved it. Bertie Carval is amazing. 😍
Bertie is convincing in everything that I’ve seen him in so far. He is a masterful Dalgleish.

I stumbled on to “The Big Door Prize” on Apple and I binged it. There is one more episode on Wednesday. It is about a mysterious vending machine that tells you your potential and how that affects the town. It is more of a dramedy than straight comedy and of course there is both whimsy and mystery which is always tempting to me.

I also started “Silo.” This is darker and right now has far more questions than answers but I am curious to see where this goes. Rebecca Ferguson is the lead.

Oh yeah, there's a very limited pool of names in that period!

I have issues with the timing of the illness, which in real life developed much later - not that there may not have been earlier signs, but it's prety well documented.

I miss "Good Wife" and "Good Fight." The couple that produced it, the Kings, were so good at timely storylines and interesting characters and some sophistication. It felt like shows for "grown-ups."

"Succession" fits the bill but the characters are so unlikable. Lately I've felt really bad for Shiv. I still want to travel across the Atlantic and slap her mother. Who knew the mother would be worse than the father? Anyone watch last Sunday's election episode?

Me too. I loved the story of King George and Queen Charlotte. so touching.

And Lady Danbury has always been one of my favourites so I loved that storyline as well.

10 out of 10.

Succession thoughts:

The election episode gave me so much anxiety since it was so true to life. Shiv has always irritated me and this season I hate that she's thrown in with Mattson. I wanted the three siblings to finally truly work together, but I knew that was too much to hope for with how messed up they are. I did feel bad when Tom told her she'd be a terrible mother. I never could stand Tom so I hope she keeps him kicked to the curb even with the baby on the way.

Yes, I wonder how many Romans are there who care nothing for the truth. Not that the other two are much better.

I really really hate forced ads for original content on a streaming service. They already prominently display it. I do not want to watch their fecking ads. And now I unfortunately know there is a new reality show for Sylvester Stallone and his family. Are they that desperate for money that they want to be the new Kardashians?

That's good to know.

Me too. Glad to see her get more screen time. And to see how she becomes Lady Danbury -- the one we know about from the Bridgerton series. I"m not as excited about Violet Bridgerton. I don't remember Lady Danbury and her having a particularly close relationship so it feels retcon-y to me to have them become best buds. Also, she's kind of boring in this show.

Are they that desperate for money that they want to be the new Kardashians?
Ooh, maybe they will become the next Osbournes. That show was at least fun.

Each episode of Romantic Getaway just gets better and better. Who knew adding one zero to the theft of $50,000.00 would create so much trouble for our (anti-)heroes? I like how many things happen which in other shows I've thought, "Why don't they just..." And this show goes there. Such great writing.

Katharine Ryan is a favourite comedian of mine and I'm glad to see she's successfully moving into scripted television work. The whole cast is great, including Johnny Vegas as their boss Alfie. I see that this show is only six episodes, so only one more episode left for me. :wuzrobbed Romantic Getaway has been airing in Canada on the W Network and aired earlier this year on Sky Television in the U.K.

I didn't watch the Kardashians or Osbournes so I wouldn't know. I probably won't bother with the Stallones either. I nominate you to watch it and let everyone know which ones they are. They start streaming tomorrow on Paramount.

Oh, I don't have to watch it to know that. The internet will be sure to tell all!

Also, I've never seen the Kardashians so that puts me at a disadvantage. There are plenty of reality shows with famous families they can model themselves after. The Kardashians aren't the be-all and end-all for reality tv, after all.

I'm currently watching Queen Charlotte and I'm liking it. Only 3/4 of an episode to go. That said, it is almost a crime that Corey Mylchreest doesn't even seem to have a Wikipedia page.

!!!!!!!!

He's my favorite part of the series, and not only because he's pretty. I find his performance very moving.
