Euros 2025 - Women FS: ‘It’s All Coming Splat To Me Now’

I had to watch the last group later as I had to put the kids to bed. Pinzarrone had me in tears. Somehow she reminds me of Anna Scherbakova with better choreo. She has a special interpretation quality that you can't teach. I don't care about the jumps being so small but then again I was always a Sasha Cohen fan. Pinzarrone has so much intensity and beautiful lines. My kind of skater.

Niina Petrokina omg what a skate. I'm so happy for her. Well deserved. I think she still can't believe it.

I love Gubanova's posture, arms and overall skating, but that programme is so empty. She was out of steam towards the end and in general she looked so fragile out there, with no attack. It might be enough when others falter but tonight was Niina's.

She trains at Rukivitsin's camp. Apart from Anna Frolova, that's par for the course. Example see Dima Aliev and Makar Ignatov (except since his marriage he moved to Moscow and trains with Plushenko). They are all short program skaters.

They did last time so I think they’re mellowing ;)
Sadly, no. The way they've mellowed is from having ridiculous criteria, placement at Euros and/or score-wise for all skaters, to having a classification for "up and coming" skaters where they have less stringent criteria. It's a "one-and-done" thing though. Alexander Majorov got the nod as an up and coming skater for Sochi, but even after earning a spot in 2017, he was not sent in 2018 under the regular criteria. I can't remember if that's when he had an epic meltdown on social media.

Taljegaard went to Beijing in 2022 as an up-and-comer, but it won't happen again in Milan, unless the Swedish Olympic Committee is kidnapped and replaced by reasonable people.

Interesting event.

I usually find Nina's skating very labored and effortful but she really hit it out of the ballpark tonight after a bunch of meh skates - big congrats to her.

I know Anastasia went out knowing she had an uphill battle but in general I feel like her skating needs a major spark of inspiration. She loses steam so quickly into her programs at which point she just goes end to end and element to element. The jumps get eked out and she can't an even get level 4 (or level 3) non-jump elements. Her 64+ PCS is purely a reflection of her skating order and not what she did on the ice.

Nina - well she earned it with her barely there jumps and all. I'm not a fan but can't deny her performance ability.

Kimmy - rough falls. Music and costume are terrible choices for her.

Pezzetta - I find her very exciting with her big jumps but her program is mostly a jump showcase without much else to offer. Still would have loved to see her medal here.

Lara - love her but wish she had her horrendous jump technique reworked years ago. The fact that she can manage decent jumps with that technique just makes me yearn to see how good her jumps would be with better form.

Sauter - love this girl and find the judges so miserly with GOE on her jumps.

Kurakova - cute but MEH. Can't decide if the program is better or worse without the ears.

Serna - she's like those stiff, big jumped ladies of the 90s. She's talented but needs to figure out her consistency issues.

I love these classic dresses without any rhinestones
High-quality fabric, a design that is right for the person’s body type, and good cutting and measuring are key. Decor is merely frosting on the cake.

As someone who made theater costumes, wedding dresses and a few skating outfits, there is NO excuse for a wedgie on any of these skaters’ dresses. :drama:

Unrelated question: why do people spell Benoit “b-e-n-o-i-t”?
Not sure why, but I graduated from high school with 2 identical twins that had the last name, Benoit It's pronounced "Benoy".

I'm so proud of Nina! The U.S. ladies are going to have some competition, and I can't wait for Worlds!

Again I harken back to the years when three Russian girls with quads or 3As took all the medals. Some were deserving: Kosternaia was a beautiful skater in her prime and Med a great storyteller. Tuk was fun with big jumps.

But I much prefer the variety we saw today. Some of the younger skaters like Niina and Anna hold a lot of promise.

And speaking of Anna, she always seems so unhappy with herself after she skates. There’s someone who could benefit from a good talk with Amber.

They probably were based on her protocols. I've never been a huge spin person (except for really exceptional spinners - paging Naomi Nari Nam ) but I've especially tuned them out this season with all the cringey features :slinkaway
I was always impressed with Lucinda Ruh and Stephane Lambiel's spins. I found a video that shows both of them spinning. The first part of the video messes up for a few seconds, but it's very good after that.

Re nina p’s dress: I also loved the cut, simplicity, and flow of it. But please tell me she had illusion fabric over her back. The deep cut if without fabric made me worry about the shoulders slipping off.

Because that is the correct spelling. It's a French name.
Yes, it is definitely a French name. My last name is of French origin even though I'm Syrian, and it's pronounced differently from how it's spelled.

Oops, I missed it too, but it is a real name of French origin.

His IG handle is B E N O I T R I C H A U D, and he starts every post with one word in all caps with spaces between each letter.
Now I'm intrigued.
It’s nothing out of the ordinary. A lot of people do it just to make their names stand out or show up different, and/or add some kind of different font formatting.

What is intriguing is how he’s a year and a half younger than I am. I mean I remembered his competitive days and seeing him in the results lists, but I thought he was surely older 🤷🏼‍♂️

I feel like y'all are being too harsh on Josefin & her sisters. Most women wouldn't have given half the emotion and drama to this song that it deserves and would have skated right through it. It takes some confidence and maturity to skate to Celine's more well-known power ballads.

Maybe the power of sisterhood coaches of Taljegard and Repond could get together like the Avengers for a Suisse-Scandinavian collaboration
