That was supposed to be a Rumba, not a contemporary. If Mirai only got an 8 for that great and correctly danced Quickstep, than that "not a Rumba" should only get 7s. :blah:

I had to watch again but you're right - they called a Rumba but Tonya DID NOT dance a Rumba. Not her fault though - it's her partner's or the shows. She doesn't choreograph these numbers, she just danced what she was taught like the others. I'm mad as heck but not directly at her. I'm mad for Mirai. I'm angry that they lowballed her just to keep her out of the Final.

Mirai and Adam both come across as extremely immature when they are put on the spot and trying to be witty or funny. Adam’s first little bit of humor was good because it was fresh and a ‘new side’ to him but by the time his Olympics team event was done, he was already starting to struggle to come up with one-liners (there was a painful Olympic Ice interview that you may remember).

But tonight, when he was talking about his mom and what she’s done for him, he sounded like the Adam pre-beginning of this season. I know he’s going to try to stay relevant as long as he can and I’m sure Rupaul will be calling him next season to be a guest judge or mentor or something, but seeing the toned-down Adam of old, even if it was only for a minute, was nice.

I’m sure the producers do want Tonya to do well and may have helped her along the way, but I agree with the others that say she probably has a much bigger fan base outside of figure skating boards than some people want to recognize.

That said, the show is cheesefest to the max.

I'm not going to bother watching next week. I'll just watch the dances on youtube after. Adam is going to win (at least he'd better over Tonya and her 'Redemption' season!).

I'm happy that both Mirai and Adam made it on to DWTS together! That's another dream off of Mirai's bucket list! And I'm glad she got to do her dream Disney dance which deserved perfect 10s across the board - the judges know it and the producers know it too. They also know they robbed her of a chance to be in the final so that Tonya could get in.

I really hope that Mirai considers at least one more year of competitive skating! I feel like she's only just begun to hit her stride with that triple axel and getting her jumps under control - and she still has so much room to improve on in the PCS side! Her performance quality was getting better and she could be even better still!

Once she does leave for good though, it will be with her head held high. She gave it all that she had!

I went to go see RBG (great film btw) so I missed out on the elimination but unfortunately had a feeling Mirai would be the one to go :( I'm happy to see Adam get into the finale though, he genuinely deserves to win

I'm feeling proud of Mirai. She was probably the least known of all the DWTS athletes and she really brought it!

Not doubt, she's gained a whole new fanbase after this exposure. Even better, I love that Mirai danced so well and really emoted, in a way I've never seen her do as a skater. Kudos to her!

As to DWTS being rigged... well, nothing new there. Anyone remember Bristol Palin, who was a pathetic dancer, getting all the way to the top three, on a full season?

For a long time, DWTS features on shock elimination. Normally a lady that everyone just knew would be in then finals. I remember when Brandy lost out to Bristol and how that shocked the world. After all she had just gotten a perfect score! Now it seems to be a way to generate headlines for the show.

What makes me the most angry is that this time they clearly manipulated it. The votes were too close. So they changed the dance order so Mirai’s scores would be lower. They ensured that Tonya was paired with the weakest dancer, so she’d get extra points. If Mirai was simply scored like last week, she’d be in the finals. And clearly they couldn’t take that chance. They wanted their headlines. They wanted controversial Tonya in the finals. And more importantly, the wanted Mirai out. Josh’s scores were pretty high as well.

It’s acgually very impressive that Mirai got so many votes. She only has a fifth of the follows that Adam has. Not as much name recognition. And Tonya just had a major motion picture made out of her life! Tonya got the best edit possible on the show and she barely squeaked in! That shows that Mirai was a lot more popular that the producers expected.

I predicted before the show started that Mirai probably wouldn’t make the finale because they love shock exits, and she was perfect for that. She was amazing here. She gave it her all. But she wasn’t controversial enough to keep.

They probably wanted the two “best friends” to have to compete against each other this time. I think they pushed enough mileage from Tonya.

I was hoping that Adam would be the shocking elimination instead of Mirai. I originally wanted an all-skater final but when Adam made that trailer comment I wanted the 2 female skaters and Josh. Tonya has worked hard and she can dance so its not like Bristol (who couldn't dance at all)/Brandy (who had her own controversial issues-didn't she have a hit and run accident (she was the hit and run driver) just before the show).
The pairings made sense- Adam and Mirai were the 2 strongest dancers so they pitted them against each other- I would of preferred to pit Adam against Josh (the nfl vote). I think Mirai would of beat Chris. Tonya vs Jennie - they obviously wanted to pit the 2 moms against each other, and Tonya did deserve to beat Jenny. I was relieved that one didn't come down to the audience.

And from this one, regarding Tonya: "You want to believe she’s sincere, until you remember that from the beginning of the show, she’s been clear her goal is to change the public’s perception of her and redeem herself – as if a dance competition could make you forget [the "incident"]. She continues to play the victim, assuming no responsibility for her poor reputation, and it’s annoying." https://ftw.usatoday.com/2018/05/da...tonya-harding-finals-video-replay-recap-watch

Anybody besides me want to either laugh, scream, or throw up at Tonya talking about "love" and "Stop hate." GOOD GRIEF!!!!!

Rather they deliberately tied them so they could pretend Tonya won last weeks votes... Mirai has 37k more views than Tonya on youtube... so i am skeptical.
Well I was with my mom and her friends who are seniors and don’t do you tube and they totally picked the same top three, they also don’t know the stories behind the athletes except what they have watched on tv so they are a good research sample.

I've never watched DWTS before and thought I would give it a try this year due to the short season. I have to say that based on producer manipulation and the strongest dancers not making the finale, I won't be returning. I won't even bother watching the finale next week.

TPTB would do; and did, anything to make sure that Tonya make the finale.

Yep. Adam is the winner. Tonya gets the headlines. And Mirai gets to be the victim of the shock elimination. If it was just Adam, Josh and Mirai no one be talking as much. It would be good riddance to Tonya and vague excitement about the freestyle.

Adam is going to win. No question.
I wouldn't be so sure. Josh is there too, and I think he's more likely to win this than Adam. Josh seems to be well liked and has gotten a very nice and down-to-earth edit, he's handsome in a more traditionally masculine way & represents a more popular and more traditionally masculine sport than Adam, he's more palatable than Adam to the pro-Trump crowd, and he's perceived as an underdog, whereas Adam is perceived as the ringer who has "unfair advantage" because he's a skater.

Also, it looks like a lot of the long time viewers of the show would prefer Sharna to win because "she's paid her dues" where as Jenna "doesn't deserve it yet" and also people keep harping on about how Jenna is "mugging the camera" (which I don't see, but clearly a lot of people do) and it's sooooo unfair she's gotten the ringer this season etc.

Plus: If enough people who'd prefer Adam to win keep thinking "Adam is going to win. No question" and don't vote, Adam is definitely not going to win, because he needs the votes. Even if he outdances Josh, the judges clearly are not going to let the point differential become too big. They already "shockingly" underscored Josh on week 2, when it was safe to do so without putting him jeopardy, so I think they might be gearing up for a "another shocking twist! the underdog unexpectedly pulls ahead and the ringer is defeated!" narrative.

So, I'm afraid that not only did Mirai miss the finals (which is UNFAIR if you like to keep pretending this show is actually about dancing), but she's not going to see her friend winning this thing, either. :/

I've watched this show for a long time. Adam is winning. All factors point to him.

I just watched Adam's Contemporary and Mirai's Quickstep. All the extra whickety-wack that the show has become (extra dancers! Giant cage! Whirling cameras!) really obscures the dancing and is obnoxious. That said, Adam's dance was lovely, but Jenna did significantly more choreography than he did, and using part of the music from his LP he's used for 2 seasons just seemed....tired. And I FLOVE that program of his. I think it's not giving him enough credit as a performer to move onto something new and challenging. Mirai's Quickstep was fantastic - although those extra dancers on stage needed to GO. She had a lightness and commitment to the performance that is often lacking in her skating in the last few years. I would love to see her skate again just to be able to bring some of that onto the ice again :) I am shocked by her low scores - but also not, because she was always going to be eliminated before the finale. Sigh.

Watching Tonya’s Access interview above, you can tell she’s very grateful to be in the finals. She didn’t think she was top 3. Must be strange for her to finally be the “anointed” benefactor.

Side bar: Her nose is so different from her skating days. It’s no longer a pug nose. Did she have work done? Broke it too many times boxing? Bulbous from drinking? Hmm.

As much as she's annoyed me the last few seasons with her mugging, Sharna has a HUGE fanbase. I wouldn't be surprised if she and Josh win, mainly because of her.

Jenna has the Chmerkovskiy vote, though. Val and Maks (and Peta) have a big fanbase, and since Jenna is in a relationship with Val, she is kind of representing that whole family. Both Val and Maks have been regularly asking for votes to go to Adam and Jenna.
