Are there a lot of ice skating fans in Oman?
The Royal Opera House Muscat (ROHM) will host a series of lavish operas, ballets and orchestras, as well concerts by legendary world and Arabic music stars. ROHM yesterday unveiled its 2018-2019 season performances...

The truly amazing show, Opera on Ice, combines the inspirational artistry of operatic singing with the virtuosic talent and grace of world class skating. Olympic gold medalist ice dancers Meryl Davis and Charlie White and the remarkable Australian baritone, Markus Werba, perform in this star-studded magical winter extravaganza that can be enjoyed on December 20 and 21, 2018.
Very cool! That's a new adventure for them.

I wonder if this Opera on Ice is related to the Italian Opera/Intimissimi on Ice show, and if that means Meryl and Charlie will be doing that as well?

^^^. Willy Bietak Productions' "Broadway on Ice" show went to Oman in December 2015: http://web.icenetwork.com/news/2014/12/18/104304818/broadway-on-ice-marks-first-skating-show-in-oman

This May 16th video of Meryl talking about DWTS was posted in other threads but not here: https://www.teamusa.org/News/2018/M...rs-Experience-Watching-Mirai-And-Adam-Perform (embedded YT video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8nrmTtMvGGo )
Same video was also tweeted: https://twitter.com/TeamUSA/status/996737027033874432

Meryl & Charlie were interviewed for this article before the Spokane SOI show which is tonight: http://www.spokesman.com/stories/2018/may/17/stars-on-ice-brings-olympians-and-spokane-favorite/#/0
“It’s probably the most upbeat and celebratory show, even post-Olympics, that’s we’ve ever been a part of,” White said, adding that he’s enjoying the the group numbers and applauds the music choices that keep things moving.

“Everything came together so well,” he said. “It’s been something that has suited everyone and everyone’s personality is able to shine in its own way, and in celebrating the effort of so much of the Olympic team that is on the tour with us.”

This is a cute little interview from the last leg of the SOI tour. :) I love reading the comments of everyone who got to see them in the show this year. With SOI not coming anywhere near me and this being a terrible time of year for me to miss work to travel to see it, I must live vicariously through all of you! Thank goodness for You Tube so I can at least see
videos of their beautiful programs. They just keep reinventing "great!" :encore:

That was a very moving piece. It’s interesting to see so many Olympic and elite athletes open up about the lows that follow the highs. I wish she’d talked about why she didn’t just do what so many athletes do and continue. Maybe Charlie didn’t want to?

I think Meryl and Charlie were wise enough to know that you have to find a new direction eventually. Not knowing where you want to go next is hard, but turning around and going back doesn't get you anywhere, either.

Watching POTO on Netflix and in my mind's eye I see Charlie and Meryl's 2010 Olympic performance.

I wouldn't have thought their styles would mesh, but it seems that Vanessa really likes Charlie's moves :respec:. Silvia Fontana posted a clip of him working with Denney and Frazier, too.

Charlie 'I Love Warhorses' White choreographed a Beyonce program? This I gotta see!

Meryl & family look swell, but the camera loves Bilbo most of all. :glamor:

The question was asked in the US Pairs thread, who are some of the skaters that Charlie has choreographed for recently? I know he did programs for some Japanese skaters but names escape me. Help!!

I found this quote in one of Sarah Brannen's series of IN articles last summer about Vincent Zhou's first free skate:
"I've done a few programs," said White, who competed in singles until the age of 17. "I've worked with a couple of Japanese skaters and some of the younger skaters in Michigan. What I bring is the eye that we ice dancers have for transitions and the importance of telling a story."
Takahito Mura was the most prominent of the Japanese men.

Haven Denney confirmed on her IG that Charlie created "beautiful and captivating programs" for them: https://www.instagram.com/p/Bjs81CPls-h/?taken-by=havendenney1028

I just did a search in the Archives ... this was posted back on Oct. 12, 2015 in GSD:
This video has clips of Charlie White working as a choreographer with Takahito Mura at Detroit. It's Charlie's first ever choreography of a competitive program for a senior skater.
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x399vd7_1012-生き残りをかけた-新たな武器_sport

According to the interviews with Mura in the video, he overworked on 4T and due to it he sprained his both ankles during the preparation for Worlds. He thinks he was too much focused on jumps especially quads and 3A in last season. He tries his best for improving in basic skating skills this season in order to survive in the deep field. According to him there aren't much differences in top skater's technical skills, so the key is how to deliver a good program as a whole package. That's the reason why he focus on skating skills this season. It was a challenge for him to ask Charlie to choreograph his program. It's spectacular to see the scenes where Charlie demonstrates the step seq part for Mura. :cheer: Watch the video, if you are interested.
Rosewood isn't kidding, the side by side skating is very cool. Charlie's coaching clips start about 5 minutes in. He does not mess around when there's work to be done - fun to see that side of him.

Charlie did some dance choreography a few years ago - I know he did a program for Maxwell/Devereaux and I think maybe some younger couples, too. He and Meryl have been doing some of their own show programs, such Adagio and Elastic Heart. He helped Tanith with Angela Wang's long program last year. I also saw a young pair team from Great Britain thank him for choreo during this recent Florida work, but I don't remember their names.

I really need to quit scanning posts so quickly. I totally read this as "are there a lot of ice skating fans in Omaha?" and got very excited.

Celebrating His First Father’s Day :), Charlie White Writes About The Top 3 Lessons From His Athletic Career He’s Focusing On As A Dad: https://www.teamusa.org/News/2018/J...tic-Career-Hes-Focusing-On-As-Dad-Fathers-Day
This year, for the first time in my life, I get to celebrate Father’s Day with my dad and as a father myself. My son is now 7 months old and I’m pretty sure he’s actually just the greatest thing ever. I look at him and see the world in a completely different way. I see a bundle of potential and can imagine so many of the wonderful things he will experience. Yet on the horizon there are new challenges and new opportunities, many of which will change the world my son will grow up in in ways I’ll never be able to understand.
This along with the many other challenges of being a new father can be existentially terrifying. But out of everything that I’ve been fortunate to take away from my Olympic career, I feel like the valuable life lessons and philosophies are helping me cope with the fear and pressure. So while I doubt simply telling my son that I’m an Olympic champion will help me much, there really are quite a few things that I’ve learned which have helped prepare me for the shiny new title of Dad.

Wow, Charlie was not a bad competitive singles skater! :watch: :encore: :D
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6f3ow-4au8

I'm sure his knowledge and experience in singles skating combined with his great blade skills and championship experience as an ice dancer truly helps his ability to choreograph for other skaters. I'm looking forward to seeing more of Charle's choreographic ventures. The work he did for Trevor Young was fun and inventive.

This is such a lovely heartfelt Davis/White montage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xHI0SZLd7nE
Crying through my cheers! :cheer2: :cheer: :encore:
