Yeah, from another sport. Just like the whole "Super Slam" thing is from another sport. Ultra-C isn't a term used in the rest of the skating world.

“Ultra-C” is used regularly in the Russian press & media. It’s not an “idiot” thing, as you term it earlier.

I don't know what to say, except people will believe other hearsay and internet posts but all of these things have a sore spot in Chinese skating for a long time, there is a world that exists outside of the English speaking sphere. There has been many missteps, horrible communication, careers ending, lack of stability, lack of funding, the list can go on. I'm genuinely sorry if any of us have tainted your good memories of Shen/Zhao, great athletes don't always make great managers or business people or whatever, it just is what it is.

What about Chen Lu? Is her skating school respected in China and developing any promising skaters? Does her daughter show signs of success? It's weird that she and Denis Petrov were such successful skaters (esp Chen Lu) but we don't hear anything about them.
Her daughter is not competitive, only learned up to a 2A. Chen Lu does not pressure on her to become a professional athlete, she skates for fun and exercise.

Well not necessarily true. You'll find a lot of people debate/disbelieve (whatever you want to call it) such things, in whichever language-speaking sphere. You can see it on this website, or goldenskate, or reddit, or twitter, just as examples of the Anglosphere. Rumours, hearsay, and internet posts aren't owed automatic belief, in any sphere.

There are a lot of sore spots in many skating circles. All fans have something or the other to be sore about, when it comes to skating, unfortunately. Whether that's a reflection of reality or not, of course, is the main point of debate, most of the time.

I would hesitate to blame Shen&Zhao (solely) on the pairs musical chair situation - it was most likely a stupid decision from TPTB out of desperation after 2014 that they can't refuse to execute. Shen&Zhao themselves skated together for so long and obviously knew that pairs needed time to gel. It was really short sighted to do the swap then to knowingly cast Yu Xiaoyu aside after 2018.

The autotranslate gets a bit weird, am I interpreting correctly that, according to rumour, Shen/Zhao tried to break up Wang/Liu, and make Liu skate with the niece of a Chinese judge, but when they applied to IAM for external training with ice dance, IAM insisted that Wang/Liu not be broken up, or they wouldn't help, and that's the only thing that saved Wang/Liu? (and the judge's niece is presumably Chen of Chen/Sun?)
Yes Hong Chen is Weiguang Chen‘s(the judge who got banned because of 2018 Olympics)niece. And rumor says at the time they wanted Han Yan to do ice dance with Shiyue Wang.

I really like Hong Chen! (For what it's worth...) She looked like a diva. I would be kind of intrigued to see her with Liu, just for the heck of it. (Not as a re-matched team.)

My memories of Shen/Zhao aren't tainted.

And say what you will, two strong teams come have up under them, one of them now with the OGM. That's not too shabby a track record.

The team doctor in the Chinese figure skating team mentioned that Sui had a terrible fall and hurt her cervical vertebra very seriously in July, last year.

#Sui mentioned in a Douyin interview that they will choreograph their new programs this summer.

Choreograph their progs this summer?? I.e they are staying in amateur competition next year? 👀

Or, what is there to retire to? There is no pro circuit anywhere in the world - might as well keep training and getting funding, as long as they are healthy. It's not like there are a lot of competitions and travel to happen each season these days. They have won everything. There is no more pressure. They are probably too young to coach and I doubt they feel like they would want to go to school knowing how competitive they are as a pair.

Wenjing and Cong did a long interview with CCTV's program Face to Face:

At the end of the interview they talked about their future plans:

Wenjing: Will take a break for the next season, go to school, learn to drive, explore a different life, family time etc.

Cong: Hasn't got a clear plan yet.

Also they're still training at this moment so I guess they probably will go to Worlds.

I have heard that the Chinese national winter games would be held at the beginning of 2023.
They would have to compete for the next season if the Chinese national winter games would be held next year because this is one of the most important competitions for most of the state-funded athletes in China.

Nice to hear they'll have a rest for a year at least! I saw a clip of Han Cong working out in his quarantine hotel room. Have they come out of quarantine yet?

Well, that will be a real shame if we don't get to see them compete one more time at Worlds but I can understand Sui/Han passing - they've been the most injured of the new Olympic champions in the last few years. It's also going to make for a really interesting battle for the podium between P/J, M/K, K/F and C-G/L.
