Chantastic....the return of Patrick

I’m not sure Patrick did much “destroying” out there. This is far from over, anyone can bomb their skate and end up way down.

Apologies for hijacking this thread...continue as you were.

Congrats for not horribly popping your jumps, Patrick? Congrats on bombing, but not miserably? Congrats on sucking less than almost everyone else?

Basically, yeah. And I'm sure Patrick is telling himself the same thing.

I could not believe the hot mess that was the men SP at the Olympic team event. After Patrick skated I thought Team Canada was hooped.

And then Kolyada. . .goodness. . .as the Canadian commentator noted, he gave a huge gift to team Canada.

And Chen messing up as well!

The skaters' nerves got to them last night it seemed - it was contagious.

I had mentioned this at GS earlier. Thought I should mention this here too, FYI...

I was watching the Olympics on a TSN channel, where the media held a mock athletic event. A selected athlete would throw snowballs at a makeshift moose cut-out. The athlete selected was Mercedes Nicoll, a veteran Canadian snowboarder. This was her 4th Olympics, and she was honoured to ‘finally’ be in the first row of Canadian athletes who marched into the stadium. She said you had to be special to receive an invitation for that position. Mercedes also said she was with seven other invited athletes. Since Patrick was in that first row behind flag bearers Tessa & Scott, he must have been invited. A position of honour, next to being the flag bearer.

I am so thrilled for the Canadian team but I reserved my tears for Patrick during the medal ceremony. Okay now P. Chiddy - write a book. Inquiring minds want to know - especially how you kept going through this difficult last season. He is such a deserving champion!!

I thought I saw Liz Putnam front row with tears for the medal ceremony - if I am remembering her correctly.

Yes, I saw her as well. Also a shot of Patrick with his arm around her in the stands after the sp. They look cute together :)

So happy for him that he skated decently in the long and had his moment for the team. And happy that he gets to call himself Olympic champion.

Patrick Chan, congratulations you did it, you got your Gold medal. You worked hard and stayed focussed

You and me both. I was bawling like a baby during the medal ceremony. I couldn't be happier for Patrick! Hopefully he can take the confidence he has gained this week and use it to his advantage for the next two skates. :)

I am very happy for Patrick. I missed the men last night as I was out and just finished watching. All we wish for is a happy ending for him and he will definitely be missed.

Congratulations to Patrick for winning a gold in TE. I was thrilled in FS. I'm very much relieved that he got what he aimed at to win here. :)

He has worked so hard and it’s been a tough comeback. Now he has what he was aiming for. I’m so happy for him!

I’m so happy for Patrick! If there is any skater who should have an OGM, it’s him. I hope he can take this momentum with him into the IE and finish his career with two strong skates.

I also couldn’t be happier for Patrick to become an Olympic champion. Also very proud of him for putting together a program with two gorgeous quads to win the free skate. Like others said, I hope he can take this as a confidence boost into the individual event.

It’s been noted that he’s the first Canadian men’s skater to win Olympic gold, which is a bit of history and I find it quite appropriate that it’s him. Was also very touched by the quotes following the team short from Scott saying they wanted to get team gold for Patrick and that they were proud of him for fighting through the short, and from Eric who gave him words of encouragement before the free. That is one tight-knit team that has grown up together and (except for the ladies) will retire together, and what a beautiful way to cap their careers with an Olympic gold earned together.
