Canadian Pairs 2017/2018 Season News and Updates

I'm very happy Alison Eby has found a new partner - she has star qualities
I agree, I was not sure what she would do after everything that happened last year . I am sure it was not easy to return to pair . Good Luck to Alison and Matt!

Does anyone know if Samuel Morais found a partner? His profile on icepartnersearch is no longer there.

There was a picture from the last Canadian pairs thread of the team from St. Leonard where it looked like he and Bryn Hoffman had teamed up. No one has confirmed anything and it's not 100% sure that it's him and Bryn in the picture but that's my best guess at this point. Here's Catherine M's post from the last thread and Sylvia's post below has the picture in question if you want to judge for yourself:

I suspect Ono and Schrieber are going to compete for Japan. IIRC he has Japanese citizenship.
Likely competing under local club for local comp's.

Final listing is available for the Championnat québécois d'été. .

No last minute surprises. 31 pairs registered including 9 seniors (5 canadians + 4 foreign) , 7 juniors (5 canadians?) , 6 novices, 4 pre-novice, 4 juvenile and 1 pre-juvenile

My interrogation would be which country represent the Frantz x2 pairs. Competing in the US last year, they are registered from Boucherville for this comp. That usually doesn't mean you are training there, but also this is your origin fsc.

Has the document been removed? The link doesn't work ☹
I also just asked this question in the Canadian competitions thread in the Kiss & Cry section: https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/in...s-national-summer-series.101396/#post-5090571

The Frantz siblings have competed in Quebec before -- they were one of 2 Juvenile pairs entered in the February 2015 Championnats de Section B competition and then the Jeux du Quebec, both of which they won. I assume they hold dual citizenship?

It was working this morning. They maybe upgrading the site with schedules or flights lists. I'm sure it will be back soon.

They revamped their webstite. New link is:

But strange enough, at time of writing this is an older version of the list with a lot of missing registration. (CORRECTION MADE. THE LIST IS COMPLETE)

They [Purich/Portz] are registered for Skate Detroit (July 18-22 in Bloomfield Hills, MI).
...
Evelyn Walsh/Trennt Michaud (J1 & 5th at Jr. Worlds) and Patricia Andrew/Paxton Knott (N2) are both registered for Junior Pairs with coach Alison Purkiss, along with Lia Pereira in both Intermediate Ladies and Novice Pairs with no partner listed for her.

Olivia & Mackenzie Boys-Eddy also are listed for Junior Pairs.
In addition to the 1 CAN Senior pair and 3 Junior pairs entered in Skate Detroit, Lia Pereira's new partner in Novice is James Robart-Morgan -- both are listed as members of Milton SC.

The Frantz siblings are listed for Skate Detroit as members of the Skating Club of Southern New Jersey.

Does this mean that we might actually have 12 Novice pairs (assuming Nathaniel Foster recovers from his injury) at Challenge/Nationals?
1 Brooke McIntosh & Brandon Toste
2 Camille Perreault & Bryan Pierro
3 Emi Swanson & Raine Eberl
4 Emmannuelle Guay & Alexandre Roy
5 Laura Bergeron & Louis-Marie Labelle
6 Mackenzie Ripley & Owen Brawley
7 Marine Pouliot & Alexandre Simard
8 Veronique Turbide & William St-Louis
9 Asha Grumpinger & Josh Brauner
10 Sophia O'Brien-Doerksen & Josh Venema
11 Charlie Forest & Nathaniel Foster
12 Lia Pereria & James Robart-Morgan

I would say 13.
Minel Senses /Samir Andjorin QC Unless they choose to try Junior.
Minel recently got some health problems, that's why they are not registered anywhere. I hope to see them at Souvenir Georges-Éthier.

I was waiting to see Minto's registration list before posting in case I missed somebody. You beat me!

Forest/Foster should be back in 2 months. Maybe in time for Souvenir Georges-Éthier, we'll see.

This will be a GREAT year! Especially with all those skaters ready so early in the season.

From what I gathered yet, here are the expected "players" for the 2017-18 season. Nothing new from the previous posts, just a wrap-up of all the infos

Seguin/Bilodeau
Moore-Towers/Marinaro

Between 10-13 Junior Canadian pairs (depend on the country they will represent)
Evelyn Walsh / Trennt Michaud EO
Lori-Ann Matte / Thierry Ferland QC
Olivia Boys-Eddy / Mackenzie Boys-Eddy CO
Chloé Choinard / Mathieu Ostiguy EO/QC
Chloé Panetta / Steven Lapointe QC
Patricia Andrew / Paxton Knott WO
Alison Schumacher / Zachary Daleman
Gabrielle Levesque / Pier-Alexandre Hudon NS/QC
Isabelle Mancini / Christian Reekie
Allison Eby / Mathew Den Boer BC

Marin Ono / Kurtis Schreiber (Canada or Japan)
Frantz / Frantz (Canada or USA)
McCaw/Adcock (Canada or GB)

13 Novice Canadian pairs
Brooke McIntosh / Brandon Toste CO
Charlie Forest / Nathaniel Foster QC
Mackenzie Ripley / Owen Brawley WO
Camille Perreault / Bryan Pierro QC
Marine Pouliot/Alexandre Simard QC
Minel Senses / Samir Andjorin QC
Emmanuelle Guay / Alexandre Roy QC
Véronique Turbide / Willliam St-Louis QC

I also expect some new pairs, at least from Ontario, in Pre-novice.

Didn't Gauthier do this with Andrew Wolfe? It seems there was a lot of speculation about him finding a partner for a long time and then he suddenly appeared at a competition later in the year with Camille Ruest.

Minto Summer Skate coming soon!

Pre-novice pairs will just be a teaser with 2 Québec pairs but only one doing the free. No competition.
Camille Audelin-Dubé / Loucas Ethier (SP only)
Lily-Ann Labbé / Alexandre Béchette

Novice will prove much more interesting with 9 pairs registered. All of them doing both programs!
Brooke McIntosh / Brandon Toste CO (PN1)
Charlie Forest / Nathaniel Foster QC (PN2)
Mackenzie Ripley / Owen Brawley WO (PN4)
Camille Perreault / Bryan Pierro QC (PN3)
Marine Pouliot/Alexandre Simard QC (new)
Emmanuelle Guay / Alexandre Roy QC (PN6)
Véronique Turbide / Willliam St-Louis QC (new)
Emi Swanson / Raine Eberl SK (new)
Laura Bergeron / Louis-Marie Labelle QC (PN7)

As you can see, all from last year pre-novice or new. Watch for McIntosh/Toste. Forest/Foster withdraw (injury). Ripley/Brawley and Perreault/Pierro should battle for second and third. Just out of the podium, I expect Pouliot/Simard to be noticed for their first outing. They are great single skaters and I'm sure their program will be really artistic. How fast will they catch-up the leaders is the question remaining. Roy/Guay should be close, or even ahead of Pouliot/Simard, while the others may need a little more time to become competitive.

Seven Junior pairs could show-up:
Patricia Andrew / Paxton Knott (N2)
Olivia Boys-Eddy / Mackenzie Boys-Eddy (J3)
Allison Eby / Matthew den Boer (new)
Gabrielle Levesque / Pier-Alexandre Hudon (new)
Mariah McCaw / Steven Adcock (Canada or GB)
Alison Shumacher / Zachary Daleman (new)
Evelyn Walsh / Trennt Michaud (J1)

Walsh/Michaud should easily won this. The Boys-Eddy got my vote for the silver medal. All the others, new or from Novice will give us a first hint of the season. Some may be on the tail of the Boys-Eddy while a few may have scores lower than the Novices. Which ones? Don't know.

Also, as it is usual that early in the season, there may be some no-show (withdrawal).

The only one Senior pairs is from South Korea: Dana/Paradis. This will give them a practice before the Championnat Québécois d'été where they will meet much more competition (7 pairs including them).

Is Kim DEGUISE LEVEILLE still trying out Pairs?

I'd think she'd be a perfect pairs partner (great set of jumps, good musicality, etc). Though she's slightly taller than most female pairs skaters.

She's a very good singles skater but she really is too tall for pairs. I watched some of her training sessions when she was skating with Matthew Penasse. Pairs really didn't come naturally to her and I felt at the time she'd be much better to continue to focus on her singles.

Nice to see so many new junior pairs, this could be an interesting year as they develop. Some very strong single skaters learning pair, we know the side by sides elements will good... but what about the pair elements??? Boys Eddy have done the same things for the past couple years, they need double axels and triple jumps! Eby and den Boer could be good, the size difference is perfect and looking at what they have done in the past they could compete. Looking forward to seeing what happens between now and nationals.

Did we get a final word on:
Angelina Ekaterinina / Sebastian Arcieri?

No indication they have split. Both seem to be in Waterloo, still.

I believe Shalena Rau & Johann Wilkinson are also skating at Minto in senior pairs, if I'm not mistaken? D/P are just doing the SP from what I understand. (Its possible that I could be wrong haha)

Hopefully den Boer has been working on his jumps!

Walsh and Michaud are competing internationally Jr, Nationally Sr.

Make sense, but then, why are they registered Junior at both Minto and the Championnat québécois d'été?
