Canadian Men 2017-18 season news & updates

Patrick did a small club competition in Michigan in late August 2017 and fan cams were linked both in this thread and in his fan thread.

No. I'm talking about a small club comp he did, I think in the Detroit area. I'm having trouble linking on my iPad, but the YouTube videos are linked in post 100 in this thread, page 4.

I guess should have known better than to search the Internet and not FSU for the information. :D

I'm fairly confident the puberty monster won't get him. he's been with Brian since he was 9 and I think he knows what to do to fix his jumps as Stephen grows.

He has grown quite a bit already and often has growing pains (at which point he is reined in) He also only jumps in moderation so unless he has a good spate of time without growing problems he will not be competing at his finest....but his non-finest is still pretty good.

Come on Joseph and Conrad, you can do it. Dropping back to 1 Junior Worlds berth would be disappointing.

This is the second post-Olympics Worlds that Canada could miss the top 10.
Dropping to 1 Worlds competitor could be the just-in-time SC Wake Up Call (...or not).

Keegan is sixth after the SP. We aren't in jeopardy

There is still a free skate, so it isn't over yet. The Olympics had tons of movement between the short and free. But he has done a good job of putting himself in a strong position for the top 10.

Wake-up call?? Skate Canada just had their best ever Olympics. And despite dealing with post Olympic retirements, we still have skaters in the final flights of both Ladies and Men’s. Maybe give them 5 minutes to rebuild before you press the panic button. 😏

Skate Canada is probably thanking their lucky stars that Messing switched to skate for Canada.

I'm sure they are.

Just a guess, but Nic Nadeau was probably the one they were counting on after his jr world medal to be up there but the ankle injury and inconsistency has dogged him since then.

Like I said in the pbp thread, it will be interesting to see how Joseph Phan develops over the next couple of seasons, before Stephen Gogolev can skate seniors in the fall of 2020 as at 26, Messing might not be in for another four years. Ideally he'll continue on till Montreal worlds.

I believe he said he plans to continue for at least a couple of seasons, so that sounds like the plan.

Roman is starting to do multiple quads. I think he was under marked atvCanadians. He has good spin, basic skating skills and artistry at 18

One more thing about Nic Nadeau. Hopefully he and his team paid attention to the points that Messing has been getting for his excellent spins and start really working on them as he leaves soooooo many points on the ice by having crappy spins.

I think in his case it’s more a problem of focus and attention. He is like a wild horse, sometimes rushing things.

I would say that yes, Roman has good basic skating skills for 18, but not great. Not as great as Firus was at that age. Furthermore, his age isn’t or shouldn’t be taken into account. You don’t get a pass because you are young (or shouldn’t ;) ) My concern with Roman is that he doesn’t have great posture and skates “tall.” I hope his team has him doing ballet and Pilates.

Huh? What does Firus have to do with this?

Besides not many skaters period have skating skills like Firus. They were almost Chan level. Too bad he couldn’t jump.

I actually do think age should count because a lot of development and strength can happen between the ages of 18-22 or 18-24.

As for Roman skating tall. Well he is tall. Maybe almost too tall for for what’s required now in the men’s event. Being tall makes the quads harder.
