Canadian Ladies 2017-18 season news & updates

I love Chartrand and wanted her to make the Olympic team so badly - but her results over the last year or two aren't such Skate Canada would have been justified intervening with the results over the third spot.
No, I think they should have had a skate off at 4CC with Larkyn and Alaine and I am sure Alaine would have had a higher international showing. She has more experience, including a Grand Prix medal.

With the Olympics, there wasn't enough time or they would have. Alaine hadn't had a great results since winning Canadians in 2016. And with the way she skated all season, I don't think there was a reason to not go with the podium.

Kaetlyn Osmond just tripped over the carpet and then fell and rolled on the ice wrapped in the Canadian flag. That encompasses the craziness of this ladies free skate

CONGRATULATIONS WORLD CHAMP KAETLYN!!! :encore:
And please don't injure yourself by tripping over any more carpets!;)

Kaetlyn's trip and fall
At least she waited until the competition was done and medals awarded!!

Probably not the way she would have dreamed of winning her first world title - with the favourites kind of melting down, but she definitely skated to earn that win.

And, yes, there is a third Ladies' spot to :argue: over next season :p

LOL! My mind's already there! I hope with the Olympic success, Skate Canada will be willing (and will have the $$) to send lots of skaters to internationals next year to try to get the tech minimums. After this season, only Osmond, Daleman, Chartrand, and Pineault have both TES minimums for worlds. I mean I'd love to see Chartrand make a great comeback next season but I wouldn't mind seeing someone new get a chance to go to worlds either.

I'm so excited though!!

Oh my. I hope she didn't hurt herself. At least she stood up laughing at herself.

Did anyone notice Daleman take her one skate off in the K&C ala Osmond in the SP and KMT? Is she nursing an injury like KO and KMT?

I noticed that too. Maybe it will be mentioned in the televised version if she is nursing an injury.

At nationals I thought Gabby would be ahead of Kaetlyn at the Olympics and Worlds. She was skating with so much confidence and looked so good.

I think that the really rough season Gabby has had outside the rink with illness and injury just came back to bite her. The lost training time and confidence can really rear its ugly head when the pressure is on. Hopefully she is kind to herself. She did her best with the hand she was dealt this season. A bit of a rest and she will be back in the mix next season.

Safe to say Ladies Figure Skating is no longer Canada's Achilles Heel.

We are looking like we will have two medals at these Worlds, and will send three ladies, three dance teams, two men and two pairs teams. Considering three of our big stars retired, that's pretty good.

Disagree. I don't think Skate Canada should get into "skate offs" for the third spot on the team.

The Nationals should be the competition where all skaters are required to rise to the occasion and SC should only intervene if a clear contender for an int'l medal blows a tire.

Didn't they do a "skateoff" one year with Kaetlyn and somebody else at 4CCs?? I have a vague recollection it didn't go well?
