Good for Austman.

There's not much data from summer events yet to guess who besides the top 3 would be inline for an international. I hope Chartrand will get something in Europe.

Quebec summer skate is this week-end which may make it more clear who the other contenders for international assignments are.

Yup and my girl Chartrand is one of the worst offenders and she has had the half loop downgraded before.

I wonder if Osmond might be able to do that combo in the second half where the second flip is and rework her other combos. I'd love to see her try it.

I just don't think she gains enough to bother:

Remove: 2A+3T, 3F+10%, 2A+2T+2L+10% (or whatever jump is supposed to be 3 jump combo...it's mostly a wash)
Replace with: 2A, 3F+L+3S+10%, 2A+2T+10%

Calc that difference (I'm lazy but also feel confident the nerds will jump on this) and it's prob a few pts at best.
You'd probably only bother if you change one of the salchows into another lutz. But if the plan was to do two flips and two lutzes we would have seen that already.

Net net, worth it? Don't think so

Kim Decelles WD from Quebec Summer skate. She's also registered for Thornhill. I hope she'll be well enough to skate there.

I looked at the math and I could not come up with a higher base value for jumps than what she already has. I didn't look at back loading some jumps though.

Yes me too. I've always wondered why skaters gravitated towards Joanne. All her skaters ended up with questionable jumping technique and horrible speed/stroking.

I've always found Joanne's skaters to rotate their jumps at a young age but really lacking in SS and speed.

@clairecloutier She just competed at BC Summer Skate

3F turn 3T
2Z
2A

She was overall pretty shaky in that skate. The layback had a bit of an issue off the bat but she saved it and she seemed off balance a couple of times.

I still do not like the program. I've been trying to pin point exactly why and I think it's that there are no choreographic touches that are memorable. Like, the choreography is fine, but is it a piece that I walk away thinking about how this or that was really cool? Not even a little.

For example with the footwork. It is a well constructed piece of footwork and well skated, but it literally looks as if it belongs to any generic style of music. There are no moments in it that stand out and make it specific to this music. I find this strange since this has been Lance Vipond's strength as a choreographer IMO. For me, the best footwork sequences also have a "moment" that you remember. Like Kaetlyn spinning around back to the judges on the "Regardez moi" in the Edith Piaf program. A moment. Yuna's a finger snap in the James Bond program? A moment you remember. There is nothing like this in this Summertime program.

I also find she spends an inordinate amount of time with her back to the judges for whatever reason in this program. If you have that girl's face to work with, please use it.

It's not even thr Grand Prix season, why are people so down on her SP? Give her SP a chance to develop before you start the negativity. Most programs don't stand out at this point

Completely disagree with this. I'm sure from a performance aspect, she will improve this. I'm sure it will become more polished. I'm not disliking it because it needs refinement and she needs to sell it more. I am disliking it because of the choreographic base from which it starts. She has had many a program that looked great at this point in the season. Look no farther than her long program for this season. The short program last year was a winner from the start.

I simply do not think this short program is a good vehicle for her at this point in her career. The field is too strong and deep to get away with an ok program. What set her apart last year was the strength of that short program. She came out guns blazing with that and there was almost no choice but to reward her for it. I just don't see the same impact from this program. I know I'm sounding harsh, but it's frustrating to see a skater with her talent, with qualities that are special, not be given a program that capitalizes on that. She's better than this program lets her be and I do not think my opinion on that is going to change with more mileage.

Second time in a row where she doubled the lutz in the short. Wasn't she already giving clean short programs this time last season?

It's the music. The program is okay and well choreographed - but this version of the song can be heard in any casino in the world by any amateur lounge singer. I really have no idea why they went with this, it does nothing for her and is a very superficial choice artistically IMO. It's all about her being sexy, that's it. They could've gotten that across better with another music choice.

She's one of the best ladies skaters in the world, I'd expect this style of program from a lower ranked skater without as much to offer. It has very little impact compared to what she's capable of.

Of course a lot of her ubers will try to convince you otherwise, especially since it's so early in the season, but NO. The difference in impact between this SP and Black Swan is gargantuan.

Totally agree with what everyone is saying. We all want KO to succeed but this version of summer time has no choreographic highlights, nothings really memorable. I feel like KO's really forced to try to put some energy into the program VS letting the music carry her (which this music does not do...).

Basically, yes.

2016 Wild Rose: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x4ml4je (Clean with a planned 3F+2T)
2016 Thornhill: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sl75gOCn0M4 (Cleanish, couple of small issues)

I hope I don't have to give up my uber status because I don't like the short program :p

She just completed the free skate at the BC event, and as with Wild Rose, a beautiful performance. She went down on the loop this time, but added in the 2nd 3F and the 2A at the end. The 3-2 combo to start looked planned again. I can't say enough wonderful things about this program. I LOVE IT. I enjoy this attitude she takes on when performing this program. It's like, bitch, don't bug me today. She was more precise with some of the choreography in the choreographic sequence this time and it was just :encore:

Sadly none of the other ladies are really stepping it up this season. Austman but up a good score at Wild Rose and is most likely to be selected for Skate Canada. Tamura has been disappointing. Wong put up a good total score at BC Summer Skate - she beat Tamura and Ausmtan. I hope will get another chance for an international this season despite her poor showing at the Nepela Trophy last year.

I was just being snarky :p you're my favorite Osmond fan, honey. :D

I also agree the difference between the SP and LP is gigantic, it works sooo much better. You can't not notice how much better it is. She's a total diva bitch in the LP (on top of it being well choreographed) and there's lots of highs and lows throughout. Love it :cheer:

Oh and her LP costume is basically perfection IMO, but it's screaming "HEADPIECE, please!" at the same time. :kickass: jumps aside from the loop were awesome, just the polish and finesse on the in-between moves and it's a good one.

If she has a headpiece, the aerodynamics of it could keep her aloft if any jumps get crooked/tilted in the air. :COP:

I want a small tiara on top of her head before the season is over. She does have something in her hair now, but it's black and it's blending in with her hair so it's not really visible.

I'm not sure I agree it's a well-choreographed program but yes, a big part of the problem is the music. There's nothing to work with there, and it doesn't suit Kaetlyn's strengths at all. It's a shame because she'll inevitably go back to last year's sp and I'm really not a fan of re-using programs. The performance is never as good the second time around.

At least she has a kick-ass long!

Oh you took it even further, and absolutely. :glamor: :respec: that'll really set everything off and it did work wonders for Amber Corwin (not as good as Kaetlyn is either, bless her). Respect the crown

I am very curious to see which women will get senior assignments now that the summer series events are all over. No one was really good in both programs at their events.

Austman posted on instagram that she's going to the Nepela Trophy and it's same to assume the grand prix bound skaters (Omsond, Chartrand, Daleman) will get a Challenger event too. As a national team member I'm sure Tamura will get something too.

Based on scores I think/hope other assignments will go to Wong, Pineault, Emy Decelles, Tobin? Too bad Kim Decelles hasn't been able to skate yet :(

Thoughts?
