Well, it wasn't perfect for Brendan today, but I'm still so proud of him. Four years ago that program would have turned into a disaster after the opening pops. Instead, he clawed it back and fought through to the end.

I hope we will get another cycle out of him. He'd be 27 by 2022, but male singles skaters are starting to get a little older.

Well, it wasn't perfect for Brendan today, but I'm still so proud of him.

That's pretty much what Brendan wrote in his instagram post, excerpt:

Today wasn’t the skate I was hoping to have. However, to be able to finish BOTH of my programs here in Pyeong Chang not just on the biggest stage in all of the sporting world (THE OLYMPICS) but with my family and friends in the building and a smile on my face is something I will never forget.

Back in August, Ice Skating Australia mentioned at the Junior Grand Prix of Brisbane, that a future Four Continents was in the works.

Whether it was about bidding for the event, or actually hosting, wasn't clarified either way.

Nothing has been said since then, however.

To bad the quad sal and the quad toe weren't there for Brendan today.

Now that a two quad short, and a four quad free - skate (and more) are slowly becoming the norm at the elite championship level, will he be competitive enough in 2022? Another four years is a long time and a massive financial expense to consider.

Given Kerry's up and down season, I would think he may evaluate what he will do from here. Although at this point, no one else in Australia really has anyone near the same technical jumping content as Kerry, yet.

Great to see him achieve his goal of making an Olympic final, though.

Looking forward to see how he does in Milan next month, too.

Kailani Craine skated a great short program, earning 56.77 points, and has qualified for the ladies' free skating final.

16th after the short is the best Aussie lady finish in an Olympic short program since Jo Carter days. I am so glad she made the free coz I love her free program.

I can finally stop panicking about cuts.

“We wanted to do two programs,” Alexandrovskaya said. “But at least what we did, we did well. But next time it will be two programs. I know that.”

YESSSSSSS I knew she was an Aussie at heart! Feisty response! I love it!

Kerry will now focus on the World Championships next month, before planning out his next four-year campaign, with his sights firmly set on making his 3rd Olympic Games in 2022.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.

Next time we will make the team event!

They had a gala performance last night with quite a few of the local skaters and then two performances by Meagan and Eric. The stands were pretty full and everyone gave them a standing ovation. It was great to see them and they did okay, considering they had just spent 4 days standing on their feet and talking a lot while coaching. All reports were everyone had a great time during the seminars.

Sadly, it wasn't a great outing for James Min at Junior Worlds. He struggled in the men's short program, and finished that segment in 39th place.

As most of the competition will be after my bedtime, I hope there will also be a watch again option. I'd actually rather they just showed it on their broadcast channel, so it could be recorded.

But there are always YouTube videos, so it doesn't matter that much!

Has anyone heard anything about Kalani’s programs for next year? Is she still training with Tiffany Chin in California? I think last year was a real break out year and I would love to see her take it up another notch this year. She is a great performer and I think can handle more in the choreography department.

I can't believe I am saying this, but for her I really wish she would focus on cleaning up her jumps instead of on choreography. She isn't going to pull away from Brooklee unless and until she ditches the carots. One more season with the carots they will stick to her forever like they did Mirai and Ashley.

Did she have as many < and << at the beginning of the season or was it more that she competed so much last season and wore herself out? I agree the jumps need work, but I also think with more sophisticated, less frantic choreography, she might have more success with the jumps. She seems like a very hard worker and strong competitor so I don’t see why she couldn’t work on both. I don’t know a lot about Alex Chang her current choreographer and I don’t see a really strong jump coach in the coaches listed on wiki. Training in Southern California, Tiffany Chin must have access to jump specialists who could help out.

@Marco, thanks for the all the info. I should have just looked myself! So she definitely needs someone to work the technique. I hope her team realizes that and that they look for some outside input. I am not suggesting a coaching change (unless that is what she wants and/or there are other issues) but she has been getting < and <<‘s for quite a while and clearly I was mistaken that she had improved on those last season.

Kailani to me still has the potential to move up another notch. I hope her team has a solid plan for this off season to help get her there.

I know that she is petite, but, she is also powerful. She should be able to consistently fully rotate her triples, the fact that she gets so many < and << IMHO means there is a technique problem. That is actually good news because it means she should be able to fix it. I also think different choreography would help immensely because if she looks more senior her second mark will rise, which will put her in a later group for the free, which in turn will help her second mark.

A good example of how better choreography would help is if you look at the PCS rankings for the short program at the Olympics. Craine was just behind Austman, which is, IMHO, crazy, given the way they both skated. I would love to se Craine go to Lance Vipond for a program. I think he could really bring out something special in her.
