Alysa Liu cheer/fan thread

They were talking about Alysa on our national youth radio today. For that to happen in Australia is a big thing. I think her skating to music that they play has caught their attention.

She is a new generation skater who is going to attract people to the sport. That she seems to be incredibly down to earth and well adjusted helps because she is very relatable. And I think the hair helps too. I do think it is pretty cool.

While most Olympic athletes keep a close eye on their macros and eat clean, Liu enjoyed herself with pasta, vegetables, and the famed Olympic chocolate lava cake.

At one point Liu either admitted or joked that she was planning on eating the cake for breakfast. Skating journalist Jackie Wong posted on X about a conversation where someone asked about food in the Village.

🤔

I hope that she was serious.

What does Eteri Tutberidze have to say?

And please tell me that someone left the cake out in the rain.

This is amazing!

Free ice cream for life!

Local news article (Feb. 20): https://www.kron4.com/sports/italy-...creamery-offers-alysa-liu-ice-cream-for-life/
The world — and her hometown — have taken notice of the young Olympian’s gold medal triumph.
Since then, she’s received congratulations from BART, AC Transit, and Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee, among others. This after being told by NFL star and fellow Oakland native Marshawn Lynch to “win some gold” before she even stepped out onto the Italian ice.
Now, a beloved Oakland creamery has stepped in to offer Liu what for some, could be considered the ultimate prize: Ice cream for life.
That’s what’s on offer from Fentons Creamery, a historic Oakland landmark that’s been serving ice cream on Piedmont Avenue for over 100 years.

The 96.5 KOIT radio station announced it will change its name to Alysa 96.5 for a day to celebrate Liu. This comes after the 20-year-old delivered a shout out to her hometown on Thursday.
"Alysa Liu has made the entire Bay Area proud, and we wanted to celebrate her historic achievement in a way that reflects just how much she means to this community," 96.5 KOIT Director of Programming Operations Brian Figula said.

Local Bay Area NBC reporter Christine Ni with Alysa in the mixed zone after she won :):
THE ULTIMATE JOY. “Alysa Liu is Alysa Liu.”
As the Winter Olympics wind down, this will be why I was supposed to be in Milan to cover my third Olympics. Building these relationships with athletes over several years can come full circle, like this. I’m in awe. Thank you Alysa for taking us along on your journey and giving the world so much joy. No one can ever take this from you.
So proud to rep NBC & the Bay Area here in Milan — and EVEN prouder to see the Bay & Oakland shine on one of the world’s biggest stages. @nbcbayarea
