Bill Nye, the science guy?

Way too current when it comes to the drama choices (with the exception of Jeremy Iron, and Anthony Andrew; mm mm). No Palisers, original Forsyte Saga, Raj Quatet, Poldark Saga, Duchess of Duke Street even Upstairs Downstairs. etc. etc.

And Laurence Fox at number 1? :eek: I loved Lewis, but Fox is too skinny.

But Jason Isaacs, Damien Lewis and Alan Cumming! :swoon:

Have you heard his native accent? I've never heard him speak in real life. Evans is indeed a Scouser, but he isn't using his own accent for Endeavour -- it's more a lower-middle-class Midlands accent, to be consistent with the character of Morse both as written and as performed later by John Thaw.

I agree "Fugue" was a great episode, though I did roll my eyes at yet another psychopath serial killer storyline (serial killers in of this type are incredibly rare in real life). It just seems to be stretching credibility that it's another case that only Morse could solve, a opposed to him just having really good detective instincts. But I'm still happy to go along for the ride.

Oh, and I'm really glad they introduced a young Strange into the mix too in the past 2 episodes. I always loved his character in the original Morse series.
 
Interesting list. I"d have Damian Lewis first, or maybe Nathaniel Parker, but Laurence Fox is okay with me, too. And Jeremy Irons is in a class by himself.

I would have included Rufus Sewell.

Yes, I have...I've listened to many of his press interviews. I agree that Morse does not have a Liverpudlian accent...I was referring to Shaun Evans in real life.
 
My friends and I just had a long, long discussion of this list on Facebook. I ruled it invalid because Matthew Macfadyen isn't on it. :P

Hmm, Macfadyen is okay ... but if we're going to pick just one of the men of Spooks surely it should be Richard Armitage. :swoon:

But I think we can all agree the list is seriously flawed.

I watched about an episode and a half of Spooks and got bored. I was thinking of Little Dorrit. :)

sacrilege! :lynch:. One of my good friends lurves Rupert Penry-Jones & even liked the marathon-training version of Persuasion he was in. I wasn't crazy about Mcfadyen's character on Spooks, so I could never get into him in the series. He was very good in everything else I saw. The little cameo in the latest Robin Hood where he starts stammering 'I'm French, on my mother's side' when the Normans invade :rofl:.
 
Speaking of "Ruperts", I've always found Rupert Graves quite the looker. From Maurice to Sherlock he's dreamy. ;)

(And he's guested on Miss Marple and Wallander, and who knows how many other PBS series.)

Now that he's discovered self tanners and uses them more than an ice dancer, he reminds me too much of the home shopping network dude sleeping around with Bridget Jones' mother. YMMV, of course ;). At the end of the day, that's the trouble with these lists...they're good for starting discussions, but it's very hard to get any sort of consensus on hotness. And it would be boring if we did.
 
I've always found Nigel Havers quite attractive, too...from Chariots of Fire, Empire of the Sun, and A Passage to India to Downton Abbey, I've always liked him a lot. He's only 20 days older than I! :D

PBS Orders Second Season of ‘Mr. Selfridge’

PBS has purchased a second season of Mr. Selfridge, starring Jeremy Piven as the American entrepreneur who founded UK’s Selfridge department store. The second season will air on PBS’s Masterpiece Classic franchise in ’14. PBS says the first season was sampled by 15 million viewers over its eight episodes; each episode averaged about 4 million viewers. In today’s announcement, Masterpiece executive producer Rebecca Eaton said, “It is clear from our audience’s reaction that they want more of Harry Selfridge, his family and department store shopping!”

Ugh. I tried so hard to get into Mr Selfridge, but it started out boring and progressed into full-blown irritating for me. It should have worked, had everything you could ask for in a period drama. But I never developed any care for any character, and the lead guy's work was laughable. Wish they'd scrap it and focus the resources on developing something better.

I agree about Piven...his Selfridge is my least favorite character! :D I stuck with it for the stories of the staff...especially the young shop girl Agnes...loved her affair with the Frenchman Henri. :hat1: Now he's gone, and maybe she gets back with Vincent the waiter. :confused:

But they will jump a couple of years into the future for Season 2 (1914), so no telling where the characters will be at that point or who will be with who. :rolleyes:

I agree, Jasmar. If it had been a shorter series, say 3 or 4 one-hour episodes, I might have stuck with it just for the premise, the history, and the visuals. But it was waaaay too much time to invest when I really, really disliked Piven/Selfridge so very much.
 
Does a second season of Selfridge mean we get Sam West back? I'd be all for it in that case.

Ah, Rupert Penry-Jones, yum, yum, yum! :D Loved him in "Persuasion" and "Whitechapel".

Richard Armitage isn't bad, either but I don't recall him in any PBS shows. Loved him in what I saw of "North & South" which was on Ovation - don't know if they will repeat it or not.

I also do like Matthew Mayfadyen for several reasons, not the least of which is because he reminds me, somewhat, of George Sanders whom I adore. I am really looking forward to the return of "Ripper Street".

He was in seasons 7-9 of Spooks. He played Lucas North, the spy Ros liberated from Moscow after he'd been in some secret prison there for years. He was also on The Vicar of Dibley -- didn't that play on PBS?

I think Macfadyen is okay, but if I were rating just the men of Spooks, never mind all the other shows, I'd probably go 1. Armitage, 2. Peter Firth (yes, Peter Firth -- I find intelligence sexy), 3. Max Brown, 4. David Oyelowo, 5. Robert Glenister (see Peter Firth), 6. Raza Jaffrey, 7. Penry-Jones, ... and then Macfadyen.
