Adelina Sotnikova uber thread

That back injury is concerning to say the least! I wish for Adelina a full recovery! I want to see her skate more than anything but not if she is nursing an injury!

When landed, her triples are beautiful. And now she has everything back up to 2axel3toe. Probably enough for a decent showing at Japan Open. Given the field, there is no shame in coming last (which I assume she will, since she doesn't have the spins back yet).

Two weeks until Mordovian Ornament and she will need to complicate her plan technical content with at least a 3 jump combo

At JO she planned 3Lz / 3F / 3Lo / CCoSp / StSq / 2A + 3T / 3T / 3S + 2T / LSp / ChSq / 2A / FCSp

I wouldn't worry. A few weeks ago she was no where near ar the test skate. Within those last few weeks she made such a progress that I am sure by the ice her GP event comes she will be back in form.

Of course I gave her big hands in person when she did spins at Japan Open. :cheer2: Her return was really appreciated by the big crowd. It didn't look she was very serious about adding the second jump to the first jumps of combos. It rather looked landing on single jumps were more important to her at the point of JO. Her skating skills & Mao's were in their own class at the night. I love love love her explosive energy when she skates. Her skating empowers me and actually I came to feel like shouting "Awesome Sauce!" (secretly in my mind, of course).:D

There's still enough time for CoR. I think at senior B as long as she lands her jumps, only 3-2 is enough for not.

Adelina was interviewed after Japan Open. People who understand Russian don't need translations, but for people who don't understand neither of Russian nor Japanese I translate the subtitle in the video. I dunno the subtitle is correct, though.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QfxPDA2a_eg
(my rough translation of the Japanese subtitle)
-I wish I'll be back in the form of Sochi Olympics and enjoy skating.
-I want to participate in more competitions.
-I can't say anything about [next] Olympics which are three years ahead.
-Can I say something from me? Above all I want to say "Congratulations for your comeback" to Mao. She is a skater I respect so much. Her skating is wonderful. I feel honorable about competing together with such a wonderful skater like Mao as a rival.

I'm glad she says she wants to participate in more competitions from now. I'm looking forward to seeing she'll be in better and better form as season progresses. And it was very sweet of Adelina that she gave a big hug to Mao when Mao came back from the rink to the K&C. And also I was happy to see she looked in good relationships with Liza in K&C.

As for haters, she used to be a rink mate of Mao. She must have seen how Mao dealt with the idiots. ;)

It's almost time, Adelina's first international competition since the Olympics :respec::cheer: WELCOME BACK ADELINA :cheer2: we wish you luck :40beers: and :kickass:

She is such a performer! I find her to be similar to Osmond in projecting her joy of skating, I hope she is the number 1 Russian woman this season.

Some uncharacteristic jump issues today. Hope she hasn't reinjured her back. But, her focus on movement is so apparent. There is absolutely no way to predict which Russian women will be at Euros or Worlds at this point. Liza had a bad comp this weekend (both programs), Pogo did better, Adelina has a brilliant SP, Julia is anybody's guess at this point, we haven't seen Elena and Medeveda's move to seniors will have the usual issues. And there is always Leonova to consider. It's going to be an interesting season if you're a fan of the Russian women.

Despite her technical issues, I thought this was a decent LP. She got a few combos in and it is not exactly like her 3F was very consistent in the months leading up to Sochi either..
She seems to get stronger for each outing and if she gets that 2A/3T back, she should be right up there.
I find her exciting as a skater and very happy she decided to comeback :cheer2:

I'm not sold yet, primarily because of the music and that last spin, but I can see the potential, like everybody else. Right now she could medal at Euros.

Of course she could medal at Euros. There will be only three Russian, otherwise the are no other decent ladies skaters in Europe. (Unless Carolina Kostner starts competing again). The problem is, Adelina already has silver from Euros so I don't think a medal at Euros will be considered success. Gold medal yes, but anything less would be disappointing.

Not if there is a good battle with Liza and Elena, the reigning top of the World podium with surpassing technical content.

... Also I am not ready to discount Pogo yet.

Adelina was gone for a year but the sport kept going. Let us see if she can catch up again. As of right now, Adelina is doing very good.

I didn't mean disappointing for fans or for the federation, but probably for herself. If you have Olympic gold medal, would you be happy with silver or bronze from Europeans (especially if you already have two silver medals from Europeans from the past)? I don't think that would be satisfactory. Any worlds medal because she hasn't got that yet, but getting silver or bronze at Europeans, I really can't see her seeing it as a success.

For Adelina, I can see how not winning gold could be personally disappointing when she already has a silver. However, I would not presume to know that because I do not know enough about her attitude towards competition.

For some, competition is about doing one's best given the conditions.

For some, competition is about delivering what one is capable on demand.

For some, competition is about liking to win.

For some, competition is about hating to lose.

For some, competition is about being the star and having everybody's attention.

For some, competition is about showing everybody what one can do in order to be an inspiration.

That may be true about people who do sport recreationally, but I would think that elite skaters want to win. Obviously, some have better chances than others, so for some of them it is a distant dream whereas for others it is something to really aim for, but I don't think that at this level (with the effort and money they had to invest into their career) they are competing for the pleasure of being the star and having everyone's attention.
