2026 Olys Womens FS PBP - Missed Full of Horrors

I learned from articles that she pierced her frenulum. I had thought it was her gum. Gosh, the things you learn LOL.
@Icetalavista "frenulum" was a new word for me :D - I first learned about Alysa's piercings in this Rippon video from the Team USA media summit that took place in NYC in late October 2025:

Yes it was so fun to read the quote for each skater as they took the ice to skate! A great chance to showcase their personality.

I'd sooner see their personality through their skating.

Admittedly I was watching on TV and the experience was different from being in the arena, but I thought a lot of the staging of the event - flashing lights, interviews during ice resurfacings, etc - was really unnecessary.

if the ISU or the IOC is doing this to draw in younger audiences - I'd point out two things. One, where is the evidence that these strategies are working. Two, what goes viral on the socials? Not flashing lights and shrieking in-arena announcers, but programs, or moments from programs. The emphasis should be on the skating, not all the fluff around it.

I personally think the ISU have really stepped up their game when it comes to the social media side of things. Apart from showing the most exciting parts of the performances, they do silly things with the skaters. But it means we get to know them so develop emotional investment in them as people. And on FB and Insta and Tiktok their content is coming through.

Also the skaters' own social media they have all really been out there. I never thought much about Tim Dieck (because I watch Olivia's YT) this Olympics but he is one hell of a funny guy.

Sofia S reminded me there once was a Russian style - strong and musical - that predated starved teenagers. I hope she’s rewarded with the PCS she deserves because I really enjoyed both her skates. And because it would send the message to former Soviet Union skaters that there is much more than the Eteri/Danny way to succeed.

Sorry if this was mentioned...did anyone notice that in the Primetime NBC broadcast, they edited out Tara's confusing and wrong comment ("Added it back in") referring to Kaori's double Axel/triple toe after she missed the triple/triple combo? (As if to say the triple toe was added last-second to the double Axel, when we all know if was supposed to be there anyway). Can we edit out a lot more of T & J's commentary, please? ;)

I did notice that and even started wondering whether I had imagined hearing it the first time.

But I love your idea of editing out more of their commentary! I appreciate that they have started making more substantive observations about the skating and the judging, but they still just talk way too much!

I will just note that I'm happy to see my Facebook feed covering Amber's classy move in blocking the cameraman from sticking said camera in Kaori's face as she cried after her skate.

And it's nice to see that it seems to have silenced the MAGA asshats who have been pounding her, at least a bit.

I love watching her. She just has such good basics and beautiful technique. But she is also very musical. I would be in the 8s on her components.

And the other thing I appreciated with so many of the skaters competing they look fit and healthy and they have much greater maturity in their presentation. Many of the programs were very musical and used the nuances. Apart from the clean programs, I really enjoyed what they all brought to the ice.

MacArthur Shark?

(For Worlds. Assuming that both Alyssa and LNG go.)
I like that. I think we did MacArthur Snark already. Though maybe I imagined it.

I would also like to announce that I will not be at Worlds. I hate to disappoint my fans, but have decided to retire to a life of sitting on the couch, watching YouTube and skating on Peacock while stuffing my face with too much food. Wish me luck!

To me the person out there who seemed to be skating with the same ease as Alysa was Sofia. I think she needs to level up on her spins and footwork?? Not sure but if that is what is holding her back it is fixable. She's a joy on the ice.

And it turns out my favorite Dune this year goes to Niina. She was also an Olympic highlight for me. I liked the entire event for the women.

I think Browning has excellent these Olympics. Maybe some people don’t care for the humour but I was laughing at his continued shark/fish puns as Gutmann was waiting for her scores. And I feel he’s picking good moments to get into the technical calls and when to maybe let it go without being said because it didn’t change anything about the placement.

And totally agree that because of his own Olympic disappointment, he is very sensitive when covering others who had the same outcome.

He did have me rolling laughing though during the team event medal ceremony when the host said something like “and after the medal ceremony you get to go home and find a nice place to put that in your house”. And Kurt goes “not me!”.
I was actually fine with Kurt’s commentary here too. And Brenda Irving seemed to get better at saying skaters names as the competition continued, not perfect, but better. I still wish they’d stop hiring Carol Lane though. Sure the moment at the end of Piper and Paul’s FD was sweet but overall she just doesn’t seem to be into doing it enough to actually be good at it.

You may have Tracy. Please take Tracy back. I had to mute Guignard & Fabbri's RD during the team event because when she starts ragging on people, it gives me PTSD from past Olympics, and they were the competitive team I most wanted to enjoy watching. (There was no venue feed available on Peacock that day for those of us who couldn't watch live).

Sofia was great, and yes it was her spins & steps, especially in the SP. None was level 4 and one had the dreaded V. In the FS, one was level 4 but the final two were level 3. The steps were level 3 in both programs.
