Didn't Alysa get invited to the Olympic gala in 2022 in Beijing even thought she was only 6th? When you think about it a 6th place finish as a 16 year old with a full field including the Russians ladies tells you how she never was intimidated by anyone ever on the ice.I'm guessing Alysa gets invited to the gala now.I saw several videos on Instagram or Facebook where she said she hoped to be invited to the gala because she has a new program to Pantheress (?) she wants to show off.
I fully expected her to be on the podium, though, so I knew she'd be invited. I just wasn't sure what color medal it would be.
And I'm absolutely thrilled she ended up with gold (although I thought she'd be perfectly chill no matter what happened). I finally found a ladiezz skater to love like I loved Kwan.
I thought the Miss part was from Miss Saigon which someone skated to. For the rest, I got nothing.
I hope so, the addition of the team event really turned the olympics into a marathon of sitting and eating candy that I am not equipped for. if they added one more event I would probably need a social worker to come lure me out.So now what are we supposed to do ... just like go back to work and stuff?! It's so hard coming down from 2 weeks of Olympics skating drama.

I just rewatched it a couple of times. For me there was not enough depth to the edges which is required to get the difficulty called. For example a couple of the steps I did pick up were she did a couple of choctaws that were wide stepped and did not have good clarity on the entry and exit edges. I also think that some of rockers and counters were a bit flat and scratchy on the entry and exit edges too. She probably got the twizzles and a loop.
I'm not sure what part of KAZ judge overmarking one skater in both the SP and LP is misleading. Is that how the judges mark now? "Well my marks are going to get throw out so it doesn't matter what I give them because I'm going high!" Their total for the comp was 223.3 for the Russian skater.
Looking at all the marks I didn't see any particular patterns. Most of the GOES and components that were given had at least two or more judges putting in the same marks. There were some outliers that whether high or low were not going to be counted in the final result.
Why on earth do snarky comments keep coming up about Plushenko? He hasn't set foot on competitive ice in well over a decade. If you didn't like him, that's fine. But, man, when it comes to holding grudges ... no elephant has ever walked the face of this earth that had a memory that could come remotely close to as long as some of the members on FSU.
But she is not the Olympic champion because there were 8 other judges on that panel.
Sometimes you watch a skate and it’s a gold performance, regardless of when in the event it happens, you just kind of know that nothing that comes after will beat it. Miura/Kihara, anyone? Alysa’s performance just smelled of gold, from the moment she stepped on the ice, she looked so confident and performed it like a champ. Love her story, too.

Totally agree. After all, wasnt GP fired from her commentator position because "it is the responsibility of NBC to provide coverage that our viewers can trust to be unbiased?" Nothing "unbiased' about Johnny's mean-spirited remarks. Meanwhile, on GEM, Kurt was kind. He pointed out her mistakes but you could tell he felt for her, particularly when he said, "I think her heart was broken when she missed the quad." And Carol lane agreed with him. Quite the difference in commentators.

Of course you are allowed to bring up any past skater you want. Goodness knows, I've been around long enough to remember decades of skaters...lots I liked and a few I disliked intensely. But I've learned to let go of the ones I disliked because ....well, I never really knew them personally and they've moved on with their lives and are quite likely very nice people after all.
My only quibble. Russin should have been below Isabeau.
Yes it was so fun to read the quote for each skater as they took the ice to skate! A great chance to showcase their personality.Kurt Browning says that there is a quote posted in the area for each skater (apparently as she takes the ice), and Alysa Liu's was two words: "Please enjoy."
With all due respect, do you personally know his wife? I, of course, have never met the woman so therefore don't feel I can pass a truly knowledgeable opinion on her. The word "speculation" always makes me dismissive of whatever follows it because, let's face it, we never know what's true or not these days. And, yes, I know Plushenko has at least some importance in the Russian skating community. He owns/ operates a skating school, does he? And, I think one of his sons is exhibiting a fair amount of skating talent. As I said, life goes on.
