I love the image of Alysa lifting Ami. That was fantastic, from almost all the girls. So much redemption. I am gutted for Isabeau but hey that means she'll have to stay in for another four years, hopefully new quad=new coach. Lara, Julia, Amber, all the Ninas, so much joy in this arena. Just so freaking Olympic in the best way.

Question: I see a lot of handwringing abut Kaor's 3rd combo, but doesn't the +REP count against a combo slot, or was this rule changed and I missed it?

I thought the same, but based on the posts by @tony and @Private Citizen it must have changed - no way would they not know

I really did want it for Kaori but I think she’ll put it in perspective.

Ami is genuinely adorable and I’m really looking forward to seeing her regularly on podiums (knock on wood) next quad. But I’m admittedly happy she didn’t take gold.

The scores for Petrosian were less than reassuring for the future, but I’m going to enjoy this podium for now.

man, I was going to watch unspoiled again like for the men's and someone sent me a photo of "US Liu takes Gold!" and then my phone did that thing again. le sigh.

I really wanted Sakamoto to win here, but I'm glad she got silver, glad to see that Amber had a much better skate, and thrilled for Alysa to vibe her way to Oly Gold!

Adeliia was 3rd in TES.

She did two BIG combos in the back half - 3F+3T and 3Lz+2A+2A. She still gets 70% of the quad base value and racks up points (similar to Nakai and Glenn) by doing the big sequence with two double axels in the second half. Skaters with an ultra-C element are an advantage that way.

No, it doesn’t block a box. This was changed several years back when +REP was introduced in place of +SEQ, which did block a box in addition to reducing base value.

C/B skated great in the individual event taking part in the TE is not why they lost. Being the most senior skaters on this team they set a great example for all the American skaters since they could have said no to skating in the FD since they would only have one day of rest and they are by the far the oldest skaters on the team but they sucked it up and helped get that Gold medal.

Well, no, because the placements in the TE translated to points and the US won based on those points. But, also, if you added up the scores from each segment of the TE, the US would have still come out ahead of Japan.

Of note - the Olympic veterans came through in both of their events with medals - Chock/Bates in dance and Alysa in women. Dance was always going to be tight and Malinin got caught up in the US media hype and how different the Olympic arena is to even a packed, home Worlds arena.

The caller made a bunch of mistakes during Petrosian's skate with the initial calls, which I think is why everyone is so shocked at how high she scored (and why it jumped so much at the last minute). She didn't skate badly, and by backloading those combo's she had a big tech advantage. She had the highest BV (70.33) of the comp - 3 points higher than Amber, and more than 7 points above Alysa. The mistakes I noticed from the initial calls:
1) 4T was called as a 4A initially (fixed pretty quickly)
2) 3 jump combo the 2nd 2A had a * so wasn't counted initially
3) 3F+3T was called as 3F+2T
