Pairs event was my highlight of the day, who would have thought!

Kind of surprised they didn't try to recruit the Shibs. If they were gonna come back skating for Japan would be an automatic Olympic spot and team medal.

The shibs will have renounced their Japanese citizenship years ago.

Wouldn't have predicted it kind of came down to Ellie Kam not falling but hopefully it gives her more confidence going forward.

No matter how much thinking and planning and strategizing everyone does, it always seems to come down to something no one expected.

I know I said I wasn’t a big fan of her skating, but I need Amber to know that she won that gold medal too. Every point counted and she fought through that performance and landed many triples and ended strongly.

Shun had ~7 points more than Ilya in GOE.

Johnny was trying to shade the judges about Shun's 'generous' jump GOE, but when you swoosh out of jumps like that, you get lots of points!

I think she will. If she had fallen apart, USA would not have won. It wasn't her best, but she kept it together.

I do love that the team event has been pushing countries into development of all the disciplines. It's so much more exciting than when they first started it.

I'm not bitching about the placement, but how is Sato's PCS lower than Malinin? By all means give Malinin the win on technical, but were the judges watching the same competition?

They certainly did! No gold for the USA without their superb effort. They surprised and thrilled the heck out of me today. Huge congrats to them (and, of course, the rest of the team).

Damn. I thought Sato might have done it, but no. Good for the USA, and I'm ecastatic for Italy bronze.

This is the first time I've been interested in the team event. That was a great contest.

Ilia put more combos in the second half for a much higher base value as well. Sato squeezed out 20+ points just in GOE where Ilia got 15.

Great team event! Kudos to team USA for putting it all on the line. An opportunity like this comes perhaps only once in a lifetime.

I thought Ilia's PCS were well deserved - Shun is brilliant and everything is textbook but there's not much fire to that bird.

I guess if the purpose of having the team events this early before the individual is to hype people up then it worked. Super stoked for the individual events.

I honestly think it would be good for skaters to have a chance to prep for this? Only doing anything like this once every four years isn't the best prep.
