I'm not bitching about the placement, but how is Sato's PCS lower than Malinin? By all means give Malinin the win on technical, but were the judges watching the same competition?

ETA: I should probably stop looking at results and get some work done.

The Cdn. commentators were watching the same competition as you were. They said that the final 2 quads gave Ilia the lead on TES but the PCS should be higher for Sato.

Generally, I think Soto has better PCS than Ilia, but not tonight. It was a story of 30 seconds--the final picture of Ilia was so much stronger than Soto's. Soto for all his cleanliness skated smaller, especially towards the end. BUT. Had the judges given it to Soto instead, I'd have been OK with that too. There's an argument to be made for both.

I hope this lights a fire under Japan and they kick everyone's ass in the individuals in pairs and singles.

I honestly think it would be good for skaters to have a chance to prep for this? Only doing anything like this once every four years isn't the best prep.

Maybe if WTT was treated more like a real event and less like an exhibition?

I still don't think that would do it? Because it would still not be in the same time frame so it would still not prep them for having to skate potentially 4 times in a week.

I'm incredibly happy for Team Italy. It's a lot--to have athletes stay in 4 years for a home event, to have athletes come back from injuries that could have ended careers, and athletes skating on current injuries.

Of course, a good Barbara Fusar-Poli reaction moment can make any Olympics great.

Yeah. It probably would have been better for him to skate before Ilia. Skating last just makes it feel worse when you don't go into first. He did as well as he possibly could. He is in no way responsibly for 'losing' the gold. He was great!
