2026 Euros in Sheffield GBR planning thread

Greetings from Sheffield.

We are currently watching the Men's Singles practice session in the main arena.

It is quite surreal to have travelled half way across the world from Melbourne, Australia.

We're hoping to get our Facebook connection up and running soon as well.

I’m travelling from Stockport to Sheffield on Wednesday morning & am staying at the Premier Inn Angel St. I’ve got the TSY app on my phone for buying tram tickets. Feeling excited!
Manchester Piccadilly rail station will close from 14 - 22 Feb so won’t affect anyone travelling this week.

Hi,
great that you made it from Down Under.
How cold is the rink?
Will be there tomorrow.

Just saying hi, I'm also at the Angel St Premier Inn, arrived yesterday. Very straightforward team ride to the arena, where I currently am if anyone wants to say hello, I'm in section 116 seat A7 wearing a black coat and purple hoodie, and clutching an enormous diet coke as if my life depends on it!

Would you believe I was the first person to pick up my press credential.
The main rink is fine, although the press stand is in the upper bowl and quite far from the ice.
I haven't been to the practice rink next door, but since it is quite chilly outside, I'd imagine it will be cold as well.

Be aware that the elevated walk between the press centre and the doors to the arena is very tight. You literally cannot pass anyone in the walkway.

Thanks! This time I am a mere civilian...

Sorry, I'm going to be the annoying person with a Ticketmaster question.

Have any all-event ticketholders been able to access them in the Ticketmasker app? I've got the gala ones there (and received an email telling me they were available) but not the all-event. I could still access them in my online account so not worried that anything major's gone wrong - and downloaded to my phone wallet...but no barcodes there - but don't want to rely on that since I know signal is often patchy in arenas. And of course it's Ticketmaster, so no analogue option.

I’ve got the Ticketmaster app, but my all event ticket isn’t showing in the app. It’s in my emails & in my wallet

I’ve just checked the schedule for the women’s short program & it finishes around 10:30pm, I hope the trams to the city centre will still be running.

For those who have all event tickets that have been transferred from someone else, they will NOT show in the US TM app. Bookmark the Ticketmaster.co.uk link and do not lose it. To recover, you’ll need to go to the UK site using a browser and authenticate there.

Tickets don't show in the UK app, either, for me, and they're not even transferred. Couldn't get them to load into my google wallet, either. Just gonna load them from the website, I guess!

Ice Sheffield (practice rink) is quite comfortable and the food options are quite varied and reasonably priced.
It's a relatively easy five-minute walk from the main arena. A bit of a risk going to dance practice earlier today as none of the skaters we wanted to see turned up.

My all event ticket disappeared from the app again but I had managed to save to iPhone wallet and no problem getting in.

The main arena is quite temperate. I was sitting a couple of rows from the ice for dance practice this evening and wearing a woolly jumper but didn’t need my jacket too.

We were told there will be more concessions open in the arena tomorrow, and more food options available. For non-arena food, Wagamama across the road at Sheffield Centertainment has brought in extra staff for the week. (Yes, there are places to eat in Sheffield other than Wagamama.)

The ISU has a Sheffield "city guide" thanks to Olivia Smart:

For anyone else who preordered merch, I never received the email saying it was ready to collect, but when I asked at the stand my order was there waiting for me.

I loved the city, loved the practice area, loved the LOC, and loved the tram. But the arena concourse can’t handle loo queues, food queues, and vendor booths. There was little thought given to flow. And I’m sure the LOC told the arena multiple times about the rhythm of the event, so I’m less likely to cut them any slack.

Agreed. Outside 116, you had the entry door, the loo queue, food queue, entry and exit to the ice, and vendors on the other side. Madness.

Also, although the rhythm is maybe a little unusual, the 15 minute breaks are also there during the frequent Steelers games so you'd think it would be better. I did notice though that they are currently upgrading the concourse (such as the drink machines that weren't yet in working order) and so I can cut them some slack there, it might be that the staff are learning new systems as things upgrade.

Yeah, the chaos on the concourse was my biggest gripe too, plus the fact that they didn't put the house lights up during intermissions/resurfacing. Some older or less mobile people in our section were really struggling with the steps in the dark.

But overall I thought the LOC and the arena staff did a great job. Everything ran smoothly and more efficiently than a lot of events I've been to, and from a spectator perspective nothing really went wrong beyond some clangers from Mark and Molly on the first day. There were plenty of food options (I even ate a salad!) and despite the queuing mayhem it seemed like everyone managed to get fed and through the toilets in the breaks. And arena staff and volunteers were generally very friendly and helpful.

Much as I gripe about BIS holding all the figure skating events in Sheffield, they had the infrastructure and experience to pull off a great event (but please bid for somewhere else next time!).
