2026 4CC - Pairs Free Skate

I thought Efimova/Korovin were dead boring. I’m so surprised at how much more she gives with Mikhael, how good her English is, how much she seems to like the American fans. And I’m glad they’ve got the 4Ccs medal, they’re by far our best pair and I hope they’ve continue.

I liked Efimova/Korovin but what's become clear to me since they parted ways is that he was the weak link on that team. The issues that Efimova had & still has with the SBS jumps also exist with Gamez, but both of the partners Efimova has had since are much stronger lifters and have better throw technique than Korovin. It's a shame Gamez couldn't have found a better Russian pairs guy than Korovin.

Caught the replay of the event this morning. Loved the second Chinese pair, glad E/M won the event.

Sui looks so injured that I hope they pull out of the Olympics. They are not going to get anywhere near the podium. Zhang/Huang would probably score about as well. I hadn’t noticed them before, but now I’m a fan.

Am I missing something, or is the replay not yet available on YouTube? I’m subscribed to the ISU channel and logged in from Luxembourg

Between S/H the Shibs and Keegan coming back in the Olympic year it begs the question why? Maybe they had their reasons but no way were any of them going to be near what they used to be without giving themselves at least a year to get back to competing before the Olympic year like V/M did in 2017. S/H have had so many injuries why put their bodies through this anymore they have won everything that could be won and have nothing to prove. They are not 24 anymore.

Uh, they live under an authoritarian government that needs Oly medals? No Chinese man, woman or dance team is going to medal, I don’t know how they look in other winter sports but things like diving that they dominate aren’t in the winter games.

We’re just lucky that Trump isn’t harkening back to his youth or he’d make poor ole Peggy skate for gold.

So touched by Efimova & Mitrofonov’s free skate here. Beautiful and expressive. Actually had me tearing up! Her skating in particular takes me back to the days of classic pairs skating. I live for her forward outside level four death spiral with the most beautiful turned out pointed toe.

Also really enjoy Nagaoka/Moriguchi. Coming on strong. Very exciting team, but want more classical pair movement and interaction from them.

Sui and Han…yikes. That was surprisingly rough. Hopefully her hip can heal quickly.

Shout out to McBeath Parkman’s free skate as well. Very enjoyable performance.

And I really like the qualities of Kemp & Elizarov and look forward to their future development.

@mtnskater I know you meant Nagaoka/Moriguchi above (Yoshida/Morita are the ice dance team.:))

I've posted info about Wenjing Sui's injury in the Chinese news thread in GSD as well as in the "Articles, news, photos, etc." thread in this subforum.

Only popping in to comment on Anastasia and Hektor. I didn't watch the rest because it was past my bedtime.

I am so disappointed for them. She was really struggling and you can tell they were just not as prepared as they should be. Head injuries are so skary and they take a while to get over, particularly psychologically they can really do your head in (yeah bad pun I know). Hektor is lovely as always towards her afterwards. I really admire his sportsmanship. I think they were kind of resigned to go out and try their best and accept it wasn't great for them.

On the other hand, I like the new program and if they can get it working it will be a good vehicle for them.

Fingers crossed that they can have a redemption at the Olympics and keep working towards what we know they are capable of.

The teams I enjoyed watching most (tech/skating aside) were not the top three and were teams I'd not or rarely seen previously..

Really liked Kemp/Elizarov from Canada. What they could do they did really well. Similarly McBeath/Parkman.

Sui/Han still have the ít'factor even with a bad skate. Love them but I don't think they'll be in the medal hunt for the Olympics.

Throughout Gobuleva/Giotopoulos-Moore's program, I kept thinking "concussion, crap, now she has to rotate really, really fast" and I didn't even think about how their limited training would have impacted their stamina.
I love this team, always have. It was great to see them back but throughout the skate I could see in her eyes that she was not exactly "there", I could see fear and uncertainty. I really hope they are able to skate at the Olympics. Concussions have such an impact for skaters with the rotations they have to endure.

Davka. If they are "able" but not ready to skate at the Olympics, they should relinquish their spot and let another pair have their Olympic moment. That would be the sporting thing to do.

Is there another Pair with the ISU minimums? Or are they not a thing for the Olympics?
