The pack of developing teams aren't making it easy for the USFS to decide on JGP assignments. Apart from AboVes and IlinCain, none of these teams are making a strong case for 2 JGP assignments, but I suspect that everyone who scored 120+ here will get 1 JGP except for Carhart/Bledsoe since they're not junior age-eligible yet.

Jr FD (in skate order)

Lots of movement

Carhart/Bledsoe

another good skate where they expressed the wistful yearning in the music. Got a little out of sync in twizzles. Lifts looked good.

Fischer/Fischer

Pink dress for her, lime green and navy blue outfit for him. Great technique, digging deep and using their blades to generate momentum. Upbeat piece of music and it had some expression but they can add more as they get used to the program, had good twizzles that moved across the ice

Stapert/Korotcov

Dark red dress for her, black outfit for him. Got through the twizzles okay this time. A complete program--they are using expression, they have good basics, and they told a story with their Les Miserables program. They're ready for the JGP. Ready last year, too, but don't get me started. :slinkaway

Fugate/Fugate

Cruella Deville song same as Trusova. Red and black costumes with a hint of animal print on her underskirt, which was subtle, yet effective. They are a tall team with good knee bend and nice edges. It's not quite making a stunning effect to me, and I think they could work on extending and finishing each move. He had fall on twizzles, which contributed to their lower placement in this segment.

Feige/Middlekauff

Matrix in black and green costumes. I am very impressed with the complexity of this program, everything is linked together and elements are performed without a lot of prep. Lifts were cool. Twizzle sequence got away from her on second set. She was gliding there while he kept turning and completed his set. Not their best day, but strong basics and good concept--he, especially, had an intense look in his performance. Should score well when clean.

Deych/Hu
Battle of the Four Seasons part 1. Great lilting interpretation of this piece. Lifts were a real showpiece with a nice stationary one. This is a style that they perform extremely well. A bit of inconsistent spacing on their twizzles. After finishing 4th at nationals and second here, should easily get one of the early JGPs.

Kouevi/Homawoo
Battle of the Four Seasons part 2. They looked tired in this skate, especially toward the end when the music sped up and they did not. So this program felt pretty new and they'll surely add polish as they go. She had some nice expression here and there and they'll both want to add more of that throughout the program. Good basics and no mistakes so held 3rd overall.

Robertson/Rohner
Things were going quite well until he fell during the stationary lift (counted as one fall). Their twizzles got massive ice coverage, and again, they had very nice ice coverage in the diagonal steps and one foot turns. Good debut.

Aboian/Veselukhin
Blue ombre costume for her with wings. Darker ombre for him with cranberry sleeve(s). First element was that spinny one like Neset/Markelov do where he holds her hand and she's almost in splits while being spun around. I did notice Gracie Gold's complaint that they use more crossovers than dancers typically do. Like if you compared this to Feige/Middlekauf, A/V are generating their speed from crossovers and not from working their edges. :shuffle: Lifts were a highlight and they continue to have an eye-catching presence. Easy victory here.

  • Senior Free Dance
    • Amy Cui and Jonathan Rogers - LOVE THIS PROGRAM. Their lyrical balletic program has so many beautiful moments and showcases Jonathan’s gorgeous extension. The side-by-side split jump entrance into the twizzles was also a highlight. Music was White Crow/Mercy by Max Richter/Unconditioned by Ezio Bosso. Anytime anyone skates to Mercy they have me hook, line and sinker!
    • Rafaella Koncius and Alexey Schepetov - Umbrellas of Cherbourg. This lyrical style is perfect for them because they have such lovely musicality.
    • Shira Ichilov and Michael - Muse Exogenesis 3. They were both so expressive and really sold the emotion of the program.
    • Zoe Larson and Andril Kapran - crowd-pleasing Cabaret program. There were so many fun and acrobatic moments.
    • Caroline and Brendan Mullen - Danse Macabre. They had an issue on the twizzles but had strong power throughout their other elements.
    • In other notes, Grace Yi and Daniela Savelev showed a lot of improvement and performed an intense tango.
    • Ivanitskiy/Sperry also did a tango.
    • Klowar/Schwappach had a Dirty Dancing theme.
  • Junior Free Dance
    • Hana Maria Aboian and Daniil Veselukhin - They flew through the one-foot step sequence and Hanna hit some stunning positions in some of the lifts, highlighting her flexibility. Their costumes were reminiscent of some worn by their coaches Melissa Gregory and Denis Pethukov.
    • Annelise Stapert and Maxim Korotcov - expressive Les Miserables program.
    • Michelle Deych and Ryan Hu - improved their performances from Chesapeake Open. They both showed good emotional connection to their Four Seasons program.
    • Anaelle Kouevi and Yann Homawoo - another solid Four Seasons program
    • Jasmine Robertson and Chase Rohner - They were skating well to Notre Dame de Paris until a fall on a lift.
    • Wheelahan/Jin - skated to Grease medley
    • Neary/Young - "Juliet's Dream" from the latest Romeo and Juliet/"O Verona" from the Leo Decaprio Romeo and Juliet
    • Carhart/Bledsoe - "And the Waltz Goes On" - they looked much more polished than in the RD
    • Fischers - "Bad Friend" by Sofi Tukker/"When I Get There"/"Good Times Roll"
    • Fugates - skated well except for a fall on a twizzle
    • Feige/Middlekauff - selections from The Matrix

That's a little worrying about the Mullens. But it might just be some combination of early season rust and senior debut jitters. And they are mistake-prone at times. Hope they can pull it together and get those scores up. Obviously they're going to be at the bottom of the U.S. senior heap for a while, but maybe that will take some of the pressure off.

For new seniors, being clean is probably the most crucial thing to do while building a senior reputation. That and mastering “vibes.” Particularly in the U.S. where the C team would not look out of place on the GP.

Watching Cui/Rogers this weekend, I think they are better than or at the very least, in the same league as Pate/Bye.

It's also National Showcase this week, 7/28 - 8/2.

Results: https://ijs.usfigureskating.org/leaderboard/results/2025/36292/index.asp
Website: https://www.harmonynation.org/national-showcase-2025

This is a really fun competition for theatrical/show skating. It's the largest USFS competition every year. Many of the older competitors go on to skate in Disney on Ice and other various shows. Saturday's competitions are the Parades (winners from each category throughout the week) and group numbers. If you are in the Detroit area, it's a really fun day of skating.

Has anyone seen a roster or specific time schedule for the Philly Summer Challenge? The website just lists what events will be held that day and no competitors are listed as of yet.

We should see the starting order/results page populated later today. Usually those go live the day before the competition starts.
