He needs to do at least one NQS comp to qualify for Easterns. Cardinal and Chesapeake aren't NQS, Cranberry is. He could also do Philly or Potomac, but I guess he wanted to travel.
Seeing as Cranberry Jr was basically the second chance/redemption opportunity for anyone hoping to get a JGP assignment, I think he's wise to plan on doing both. I expect there will be quite a few skaters who plan on doing both. The two comps are spaced ideally, especially for anyone who wants to pace themselves & is hoping for an early JGP assignment.

I assume he will compete Senior at Cranberry, since that's the score he needs for Easterns.

I wouldn't assume that. I'd have to do some research, but I'm pretty sure Jacob Sanchez didn't compete at any NQS events last season. There was a question floating around here as to whether he would stay in Jrs or move up to Srs until we saw the Nats entry lists and saw he'd chosen to move up. Lucius could decide to compete Jr at Cranberry and I'm going to guess he'll get a bye to Easterns for whichever level he wants, especially if he's able to match or improve upon his early summer scores internationally.

I'm not paying for the stream given there is no sound, but it looks like Lucius wasn't fully successful in his SP, though his score is still quite good - 69.57 - gonna search X to see if there are any reports from someone who paid for the stream.

Blackwell, on the other hand, did VERY well - 78.61 - most certainly clean with a score like that.

Brooks did alright for himself today - 72.43 - guessing he only attempted a 2a because that score is probably the limit for most junior men who have a clean SP without a 3a.

Would love to see Nicolas land his 3A, just like he did in the Broadmoor Open this year. I was truly shocked he didn't make it to Nationals last year, and would love to see him do better this year.

Elano might have tried 3A but he has never landed it, and his score now seems to indicate that might be the case again

Rough day for Fegan as well. And LoPinto.

I'm very curious about Azadpour, whose score is far higher than I expected based on previous competition results.

protocols - https://ijs.usfigureskating.org/leaderboard/results/2025/36278/SEGM001.html

Blackwell was clean with a 3A that had +2.29 GOE; Brooks fell on his 3A attempt; Kazanecki had a messy 3A - not sure I see the rationale of his PCS being a good 4 pts lower than either Blackwell or Brooks; though maybe that was just 1st skater judging bias.

REALLY rough skate for Elano - < on his 3A and fell on his combo. Fegan missed his combo and only a 2A. LoPinto fell on his combo.

he posted on insta skating with an arm in a cast lol
Well, then, yeah, I'd say he's injured! I didn't see a link or screenshot to support the "broken arm" comment, which is why I refrained from being specific. :)

I was a bit surprised that Vasquez wasn’t higher until I looked at protocols and saw he struggled on both his solo triple and his 2a.

Kazanecki is more introverted in performance than Blackwell or Brooks. He also has the look of a typical Malinina skater who is working on jumps and planning to polish the basics later. Blackwell is like that, too, but he has a dynamic performance quality that can boost the non-SS components and drag the SS one up, too. And, of course, he’s also the bigger name with some international success. Brooks has an engaging performance style and better basics than either the other two IMO based on last season; I haven’t seen them yet this season.

Oh, dear. Logan Higase-Chen is listed as WD on the start order now. :(

Zachary LoPinto has a very expressive and interesting program; I'd like to see how it will develop. ☺️

I'm having trouble copying and pasting the women's results, but here are the protocols:

Current top 3 are Hannah Kim, Annika Chao, and Angela Shao. (Rachel Samiri went from 3rd to 4th as I was typing this, so there must have been some sort of adjustment.) Looks like Sophie Joline got her 3A combo and then fell on her 2A!

Samiri's score dropped from 61.88 to 61.14 before the results were finalized.

ETA - reviewing the protocols for rotation calls -

Chao - 3Loq with negative GOE, so it was probably clearly suspect on the landing.
Zhang - 3Lzq+3T< - yikes; her 3Lo also had negative GOE.
Bezkorovainaya - fell on her step sequence, otherwise she may have beaten Sophie Joline in the SP.
Nemirovsky - as noted in the X thread - she fell on her 3Lz, so no combo.
Jurka - 3Lz+3T<< - ouch, may as well have gone for a 2T and put herself in the medal hunt the way Rachel Samiri did with a 3F+2T.
Johnson - 3Lo<< and a fall too - ouch.
Park - 3S+3Tq and popped then fell on the Lo - rough program.

Rachel Samiri seems to be a really good spinner. She got 4 or 5 for the final spin. She was skating at the intermediate level (she won Pacific Coast Sectionals) last season. I am looking forward to seeing her skate!
