2025 US Club & NQS Competitions

Quickly while I monitor practice sessions....Ichilov/Nosovitsky skated well for the first time out for a new team. Music is Exogenesis #3. They still need more speed and polish and more work on connection, but the content is good.

Junior FD in 25 minutes.

Thanks for the reports @Debbie S ! :)

Thanks for the videos @YukiNieve ! It's nice to see a preview of the RDs. I figured Ricky Martin would be a popular choice for teams. Vac/Lissauer's RD music is interesting. I just kept hearing Gordon Lightfoot in my head during their program. I missed that cover in the 90's.

I'm home and exhausted but here's what I remember from Junior FD.

Lissauer and new partner (coached by Gregory/Pethukov/House of Whatever) look very solid for a new team. They skated to a classical-sounding piece that i've probably heard before but couldn't recognize. Stapert/Korotcov (Les Mis....End of the Day, I Dreamed a Dream, One Day More) and Deych/Hu (Four Seasons) skated well, from the protocols it looks like they had level issues. Stapert nearly fell out of a turn on the 1-foot sequence but held on to the edge, how i'm not sure, but amazing control. Kouevi/Homawoo were much improved from this past season.

I would expect the teams to clean up the tech issues over the next few months....the Dance Final and Nats look to be tough battles.

ETA: Lissauer and partner skated to Moonlight Sonata.

Nice to see you there, Debbie! (and your hard work as a volunteer is greatly appreciated!)

Lucius has solid 4T and 3A (He landed 3A during the warm up, too), but lost balance during camel spin, which unfortunately became invalid. Otherwise he skated really well.
Music: Intersteller - Cornfield Chase (My Shazam says it is the piano cover by Dorian Marko)

Well, they only have a few weeks until Dallas Classic and a couple more weeks after that before LPIDI - both of which are going to be crucial for JGP assignments. Their scores are a little on the low side of where the bar was the past few seasons, but the field has thinned out considerably with only AboVes and IlinCain as locks for 2 JGP assignments each. The other 10 spots are wide open, IMO.

Great to see you too, Yuki! Ah, I wondered about how they would score the spin. I guess they counted it as a recentering. Roman (coach) was laughing about it....it's only a summer warmup event after all....but assuming no more silly errors, he could make some noise this season.

He is still JGP-eligible, right?

Yup! DOB is April 21, 2008, so he's actually only just going to be senior-eligible this coming season. He's certainly setting himself up well for some of those precious JGP assignments. Hopefully he can deliver at the Junior Cup next month.

Ryan jokingly told me that they left out the "fall" part because they didn't want to fall.
Out of all five junior FD programs I saw today, I found theirs to be the most appealing, with unique postures and moves.

4th FD (3rd overall):
Kouevi / Homawoo
Music: Four Seasons / Air on The G String

5th FD (5th overall): Aisin / Moore
Music: I Was Made For Lovin' You (Kiss) / Nothing Else Matters (Metallica) / Thunderstruck (AC/DC)
- OK, I felt that "Is this SOI group number?" ? (esp. the last one)

They kept the programme Nosovitsky skated with his sib at the start of last season?

So Clare's still competing even though she's not in the ISP!
She's hardly the first. Maryn Pierce is still competing, but she hasn't been on the ISP in a few years. Same with Wren Warne-Jacobson. It would be nice if the USFS publicly shared the criteria to be included on the ISP, but we do know that there is actual criteria for each discipline, so there is every opportunity for Clare to be added back to the ISP should she hit the domestic score minimum necessary for inclusion.

Not a 100% sure, i think it was something like scoring 150 points for juniors and 160 for seniors.

Lucius had no issues with the 1st 4T during the warm up, so this was unfortunate mistake. He seems to have solid 3A as I have never seen him miss it during 2 days.

Lucius said he will do Cranberry and hopefully Junior Cup, which means he is hoping to do JGPS. With his relatively consistent 4T and solid 3A, I hope that the USFS is ready to add him to ISP.

Both of his programs are choreographed by Nina Petrenko.

Nicholas Brooks has always been a dynamo; his past ice dance experience really helped him with his presentation. Still super-in-awe with his Cowboy Bebop short program from previous seasons. Hope he have a better season this year and make it all the way to the nationals

Wonder why Lucius did not get any JGP assignments last year when he was the Junior Men champ. Did his 14th place at the Cranberry Open close the opportunity for him? It's not like he bombed Junior Cup, as he was 5th.

Even less JGP spots last season (6) than this coming season (7, with the possibility of picking up more) and then Blackwell & Sanchez medaled at their first JGPs, which meant anyone on the bubble (likely Elano and/or Kazanecki) didn't get one.

JGP Riga - Fegan (2nd at Jr Cup, did not compete at Cranberry)
JGP Ostrava - Blackwell (1st at Jr Cup, 10th at Cranberry)
JGP Bangkok - Shinohara (4th at Jr Cup, 8th at Cranberry)
JGP Ankara - Sanchez (6th at Jr Cup, 1st at Cranberry)
JGP Gdansk - no entry
JGP Ljubljana - Sanchez (1st at JGP Ankara)
JGP Wuxi - Blackwell (2nd at JGP Ostrava)

I believe that last season only the 1st & 2nd place finishers at Jr Cup are guaranteed 1 JGP assignment for either the men or women because of the limited entries we had in those disciplines. Elano & Kazanecki (3rd & 5th at Jr Cup) sank themselves with their very poor Cranberry showings (13th & 14th); Brooks didn't improve, score-wise between Jr Cup & Cranberry (8th - 188.64 & 7th - 186.47), so I can see why the USFS went with Shinohara for the 3rd JGP assignment (Fegan, Elano, Shinohara & Kazanecki were within 1.05 pts of each other at Jr Cup).

Even less JGP spots last season (6) ...

JGP Ankara - Sanchez (6th at Jr Cup, 1st at Cranberry) ...

Sanchez actually placed second ? at Cranberry, which was a very good result.
Dwayne Yanhao Li of New Zealand won the gold ?.

(I'm not questioning the USFS decision to assign Sanchez to Ankara.)

Week of 6/9-6/15

2025 Southport Summer Classic
(6/11-6/14) Pleasant Prairie, WI ...
Jr. Woman: Tamaki Shinohara (Taira's sister)

BTW, Tamaki Shinohara is a 2025 World Junior Synchro Champion, as a member of Teams Elite Junior.
(Which I learned from Taira's Instastory soon after Teams Elite's victory in March.)

Do we know the if Lindsey has retired since she’s not on the ISP list?
