I think some of the US teams didn't show up for one/both of the Tuesday practices last year IIRC. Just a note of caution!

IIRC, C/B were at the practice in the evening at the main arena. Or am I thinking of Monday? It kind of runs together....

ETA: It was Tuesday. It was the U.S. men who didn't go to the practice Tues aftn at the practice rink b/c they practiced at the main arena in the morning. I would think the U.S. skaters would go to the Tues practices at TD since that's their only practice in the main arena before the comp begins. But if their group is at 6 am, maybe not.

lol yeah my thinking is if they are one of the later groups I'm thinking they'll go because it's the only one in the main arena before the rd but i wouldn't blame them for skipping 6am
 
Sorry for the folks who are keen on the menzzz practice, but it seems that the best time for the Tuesday meetup will be supper time. The other option would be a late lunch in the attached food area chacking part of pairs and women’s practices. Stay tuned and I’ll see what’s available.

Can someone remind me which practices will be grouped based on practice groups and which ones will be grouped based on skate order?

Look for it in the Worlds section. It’s mostly FSU supporters, but plus ones are welcome. Each of us pays for our own food and bev unless otherwise stipulated.
 
I am all envious now as I loved our get together at worlds last year and when I was in Finland, Milan and London. I am sticking with my decision though with the current political climate. But I will truly hope that you all have an amazing time and post lots so I can live vicariously through you guys! I am sure it will be emotional too with the recent tragedy.
 
Called my local health department to check on whether I was covered for my measles/MMR vaccine, since there have been a number of exposure warnings in airports across the country this week and articles out explaining how people from different eras may need updated shots. (Per one article, anyone born between 1957-1968 or anyone born later that has only one shot). I was born much later and Mom said I had all the shots that were recommended at the time, but maybe the recommendation for two shots came out later because, sure enough, they only had a record of my having one.

Anyway, I thought I would mention this here in case anyone else wanted to add "check on MMR vaccination status" to their pre-Worlds checklist.

I haven't been following the many pages in this thread so my apologies if this has already been mentioned.

we actually just asked our doctor last week when we took the kids in for a checkup. He said the 2-shot mmr was around 1989. That being said I know my titers were checked when I was pregnant and they were still good then, but we're considering getting a second mmr anyway because that was 8 years ago hahaha.

Yeah, that makes sense. One article I read said something about 1988, but it wasn't clear. So those folks born between 1968 and 1988 or 89 would only have gotten the one shot initially and, if like me, may never have been told anything else needed to be done.

(I also found out I needed 3 more polio shots so I kind of assume the recommendations for that have been updated since I was little also).
 
Yes, in the late 80s, there were some measles outbreaks on college campuses (and I had a friend during high school who got measles after a trip to Italy) so a lot of colleges started requiring an MMR booster for entering students. My college was one, so I got a booster the summer before freshman year in 1990. I think what they discovered is that when the MMR is given under age 2, the antibodies wear off over time so immunity was not lifelong as they thought.

When I got a job at a hospital (marketing) in 2012, I had to have MMR titers checked as part of a required pre-employment physical and all was normal.

I think now kids get the first dose at a year or 18 months and then a booster at age 5, or 6?
 
I wanted to ask those who volunteered in 2016, can volunteer attend some morning practices or not at all? Also, is there any ways to take some pictures of skaters/with skaters?

When you are on volunteer duty, you absolutely are not/not/not permitted to take photos of skaters or with skaters.
In both cases, a definite no-no for volunteers on duty.
ETA:​
Also a no-no when a volunteer (even off duty) is in any credential-only space -- for example: on the credential-only shuttle; in the credential-only zone backstage; etc.​

2025 Worlds will have an "army" of 900 volunteers. Based on the 2025 Zoom training, my understanding of policies for volunteer access to practices:
(1) For Steriti practice rink: It was explicitly stated on Zoom that the no-spectators rule for practices at Steriti applies to off-duty volunteers. In other words, no access to Steriti unless you need to be there for a volunteer shift.
(2) For practices at TD Garden: The volunteer lounge will be on the 9th floor, and lounge access will be restricted each day (it sounded as if there really will be gatekeeping at the lounge in accordance with the daily schedule) to volunteers who have a shift assignment (at any location) on that particular day. But if you actually are assigned to a volunteer shift on a particular day, then it would be okay only on that same day to go to the 9th floor lounge before and/or after your shift to watch practices (and competition). A view of the ice, but from very high up.
For official word regarding any of the above, the last session of Zoom training will be today, Thursday March 6. ("Next Steps" e-mail has the Zoom link, which I obviously should not post here. ETA: And today the Zoom link was e-mailed out again.)

In the wake of the devastating crash of American Airlines Flight 5342 on January 29, 2025, the International Skating Union, U.S. Figure Skating, and The Skating Club of Boston are united in their shared commitment to honor the lives of those lost.



As we prepare to welcome you to one of the sport’s most significant annual events, I want to inform you that together we will be honoring everyone in the national skating community that was lost that day with a special tribute and remembrance program during the upcoming World Championships. The event will take place at 6:15pm on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, before the start of Pairs Short Program.



The event will feature speakers, Massachusetts Governor, Maura Healey; Boston Mayor, Michelle Wu; ISU President, Kim Jae-yeol; and U.S. Figure Skating interim CEO, Samuel Auxier. In addition, Doug Lane, who lost his wife and son in the accident, will be speaking on behalf of all the families who were devastated by this tragedy. There will also be video remembrances and a performance by a local choir.



We know that there is only a short amount of time between the conclusion of the Women’s Short Program at approximately 5:00pm, and the start of the tribute and remembrance at 6:15pm. We are asking all of our all-event ticket holders to consider planning their schedule that day to include attendance at the special program. We want to show all the affected families as much support as possible from our World Championships skating fans

Readmission to TD Garden after the Women’s Short Program will be at 5:45pm. This is to give the building cleaning staff at least a short amount of time to clean and reset the arena. Concession stands will also open at 5:45pm.



Finally, admission for the Tribute and Remembrance program is included with the Pairs Short Program ticket, which is of course already part of your All-Event ticket package
 
I know the Boston LOC seems to be allergic to giving wristbands to all-event ticket holders, but if ever there was a day to do it and let people stay in the arena between events...

Assuming the same rate of speed to get people in for events in 2016, there is no way they'll be able to get everyone in and seated in a half hour.

When there are women hiding in the bathroom until they open the doors because they don’t have wristbands, it isn’t going to work

Why wouldn't it make more sense to notify ALL ticket holders that the Women's SP start time is being moved up 30 minutes and will begin at 11:35am? That would have it concluding 30 minutes earlier, and then give them two hours before the remembrance starts (1 hr to clean arena, 1 hr to get folks back in seated).

Because there are practices for the other disciplines earlier in the day. And I’m sure there’s a start time already contracted with the arena on when they can open for those practices. And when the full set of ushers will be there for the competitions

Pairs practice ends at 10:50. I suspect the TD Garden has a rule about opening doors 1 hour before an official event start time (although i'm sure those with all-event tix who go to pairs practice will be scanned in for Women's SP when they arrive). So the earliest the women could start would be 11:50.

The 5:45 door opening time for Pairs SP makes sense from that standpoint, but if the LOC wanted people to attend what was probably originally going to be the opening ceremony, they should have worked with the arena to plan for that.
 
That might require rescheduling the women's SP warmup as well. It's scheduled to begin at 8 AM at the practice rink, but I'm guessing there's supposed to be a certain amount of time between the warmup and the event.

That's aside from the impact on people flying in on Wednesday morning and expecting to arrive in time to see the entire women's event. Plus other attendees whose tickets show the 12:05 PM starting time. Not that many people keep up with schedule updates made in the weeks leading up to the event.

I know Carolla was quoting the LOC e-mail, but color-coded schedule as of Mar 3 says that Women SP will end at 4:45 pm (as opposed to 5:00) ... which will help a bit.
