2025 ISU World Figure Skating Championships in Boston

Hi, I got email that my volunteer application was approved. I am happy about it, wanted to work during worlds and see everything inside.
My question is if the give some tickets to volunteer or I should buy it?
My understanding is that volunteering (with a minimum of 2 shifts) gets you 2 tickets to one session, or 1 ticket each to two separate sessions. The seats would be in the designated sections for volunteers. I received a "late" approval, as well, but I am very excited to be working my first Worlds. I am currently waiting to see what shift assignments I get; I already have an all-event ticket so I am hoping to miss minimal events. I didn't get assigned to one of my preferred committees, and they are only assigning volunteers to one committee each. But at this point I am just happy to get something!

I thanked the lady at the Boston booth for getting the bag policy changed and she said she did indeed tell them she would have to face us in Wichita. 😂 She didn’t know the website had been updated already. The information is going out in the next monthly newsletter.

Sorry for the double post - got some gala information from the booth. They are not doing the full ISU awards at the gala, only the Lifetime Achievement Award. But they said the whole gala will tell a story and will not be an ordinary gala and it shouldn’t be missed!

If they didn't want me to miss it they should have included it in my ALL Event Ticket. :saint:

Oh that’s a shame, I’ve done three worlds and the perk is being able to use any open seat for any event unless a section for volunteers. Also meant watching the gala rehearsals which were always fun. But then we had minimum amount of shifts and a lot of hours. But a smaller crew of volunteers then.

Does anyone know how reliable the public transport buses are in Boston?

I'm considering a hotel in Chelsea and there's a bus (111) that stops at TD Garden and runs every few minutes, and it does seem to run early in the morning/late at night. There's also a commuter rail stop on the Newburyport/Rockport line that runs infrequently.

The other option is a hotel near the UMass Boston/JFK Library T stop, which is slightly farther but potentially more convenient from a public transport perspective?

Thanks in advance to anyone who might have advice!

@cheremary I've never stayed in either of those neighbourhoods - usually I've stayed in Cambridge - but I found Boston public transit to be quite reliable. Minus the occasional cancellation or slowdown that would happen in any big city transit system, but the notifications about those seemed to be sent out quite quickly and thoroughly (signs in stations, notifications on websites, etc.)

For what it's worth I was usually travelling by myself and was a little wary at night, but there were always other people on the buses and on the T platforms. And I could move around if there was someone who was making me uneasy.

I am very familiar with the T. The 111 comes every 5-15 minutes depending on time of day and drops you off at Haymarket a quick 5/10 min walk away (or you could walk to Haymarket station and take the green/line one stop over to North Station but this would take longer). The stop at Haymarket is outside Boston Public Market and theres always people walking around and I would feel safe there any time of Day. This is cheaper than the Newburyport/Rockport commuter rail and runs more frequently. There is probably less to do right around the hotel in Chelsea - I don't spend a lot of time there.

If you take the hotel near the UMass Boston/JFK Library T stop, you would have to take the orange line to downtown crossing/green line to park street and switch over to the red line. When I used to do orange to red for work I would sometimes have to wait 20 minutes for the next train, and downtown crossing is not the safest T station to be at late at night alone. Not sure how the area is there - I have been to JFK library once but I drove and there wasn't much there.

For those of you familiar with the TD Garden, is the "Hub on Causeway" mentioned in the latest email from the organizer in the same building as the rink? In other words, we don't have to go out and come back?

(They also mention no re-entry policy, but that just means you can't go out and come back while the same event is going on, I guess)

It’s semi attached, but you do have to exit the arena proper to get there. Unless they come up with something creative, it’s likely you’ll need to go through security again when you come back.

We ate breakfast in the food court at the Hub prior to our Amtrak train and it’s not within the arena but still inside/attached. My hotel is also in the Hub. I think they just mean you won’t have to go outside, you can chill in the food court. We will still have to go through security and show tickets between events as you aren’t technically in the arena anymore. Think of it as a mall attached to the arena. At least that is how I interpreted it.
