2025 ISU World Figure Skating Championships in Boston

And I just received a phone call from the LOC and was given the same info. I was told they plan to use the FOFS list to offer the discount on 2025 Nationals tickets. Whether they will merge the two lists (so those who drop their FOFS membership in the meantime will still be included) I have no clue.

As for the exhibition, the email I got says:

there will be a period of time next year prior to single-session ticket sales that gives All-Event ticket holders an opportunity to purchase Exhibition of Champion tickets separately through Ticketmaster.

So you can buy it now (which has to be the same seat as the competitions) or buy it later (you can choose any seats available on Ticketmaster website).

I wish they would finish making calls/emails about Worlds tickets before moving on to 2025 Nats issues. I just want to have my seat location settled!!

For 2016 Worlds ladies short, I had Loge 9, row 26. Is that value Loge?, how much worse are the balcony seats to this?

Could anyone please help me confirm if sections 17/18 are the ones close to the K&C? I tried to call but couldn't get through. Thanks in advance!

I really want to go, but I cannot take that many days off and I can't afford the hotel for a week. So I'm going to roll the dice and hope I can get both single event tickets and a hotel/AirBnB close enough to the arena to not to have to take public transportation as Massholes give me genuine anxiety. I would be looking for whatever event is Friday, Saturday, and depending on price, if dance is Thursday night, Thursday.

Does anyone know when the schedule is generally published?

Does anyone have any insight into the volunteering experience for this type of event? I’m stuck in a dilemma- paying the pretty penny for a seat or taking advantage of being local and volunteering. My worry is that, if I volunteer, I won’t really be able to watch the event…

I believe it’s expected in late 2024! But according to the website, looking at the Montreal schedule is a good quick basis on what it might look like.

I've been doing some preliminary research on hotels. The three room taxes in Boston add up to about 16.5%, pretty painful on top of the high rates. Be sure you check all the financial details, because I've already uncovered three hotels charging either a resort fee or a "service fee". They all fell in the $25-$30 per night range.

Resort fees
aka destination fees or amenity fees

Why they suck, which hotels charge them, what the add-on costs are for, getting reimbursed or refunded

The last time I saw the qualifying rounds was in Washington, DC. They were endless! An enduring memory was the recent Olympic Champion, Sarah Hughes going splat right in front of me during the qualifyings.

Qualifying lasted until 2006 Worlds (and then came back briefly), but then we were seeing massive fields in singles' events (even even dance a few times) when it reverted to a short program as the first segment. I remember watching the entire mens short from 2009 Worlds, and it was 10+ hours IIRC. The judges simply cannot do it, as big of fans as they may be. That's just asking for scores to be phoned in by start order and world ranking even more than they already are.

But I do think the Russians quoted in the article have some valid points, if not points that lead to other considerations. People traveling to these events already loudly complain about the ticket prices, and now you're adding at least 2 extra days to the all-event ticket price (not sure if QR is included in that price but I don't see why it wouldn't be) and hotel considerations, more days off of work if you want the 'full' experience, and so on. I personally, as someone who has gladly watched a whole lot of skating in the last 30 years, don't think the QRs will attract that many people to the stands or to the streaming options, if the latter is even an option. The QRs back in the day attracted very, very small audiences and that was at a time when they weren't televised and most of those skaters had never been seen by fans across the world.

As a positive, thankfully the ISU hasn't found a way to once again wiggle QRs into the final score, because that would of course require every skater to do three segments, causing massive event lengths.

I know that more visibility is better for the sport and all of that, but I'm still in the boat of having this 'qualifying round' instead being held as a separate competition in early March each year or something of the like. Nebelborn in Olympic seasons always has more excitement around it, and I think the ISU could do the same with this.

(not sure if QR is included in that price but I don't see why it wouldn't be)
Practice Passes
A practice pass also includes admission to the preliminary qualifying practices and competition on Sunday, March 23, and Monday, March 24, 2025. Practice passes for the TD Garden will not be available or sold outside of an All-Event ticket.

IME the qualifying rounds are awesome. You get to see every skater, and the not-famous ones who know they won't make it out of qualifying are truly grateful for a supportive audience. Because those couple of minutes on the ice are their Worlds experience.

I think the qualis will be even better without the top-to-middle tiers phoning it in at 10am.

It will be more like the Olympic qualifier, without the occasional skater/team whose country has already qualified, but also without the members who didn't have the number of qualified spots in the Free having to qualify for one more spot.

Personally, I loved the QRs. In 1999, they started to count toward 20% of the total score, so phoning in performances was eliminated. You might see the skate of a lifetime in the QR. I will never forget two skates in particular--Sylvia Fontana in 1999 and Ryan Jahnke in 2003. Especially Jahnke, who finished 3rd in the QR then 19th in the Free Skate. All these years later I can conjure up the crystal clear image of Ryan skating fabulously as Prince Charming in Prokofiev's Cinderella in the QR. Can't tell you a thing about his Free Skate performance.

Now, if they would just bring back those two Compulsory Dances!

When I received a huge collection of skating archive vids earlier this year, I saw that '99 Worlds ladies QR was included and I agree that Fontana was a standout there! I uploaded it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VpyB58C2U9M 'hi mom anyway!' in the kiss and cry.

The groups were usually very lopsided-- Jennifer Robinson finishing in 2nd in her group in 2003, anyone? And I didn't like how it more often than not only allowed the skaters in 1st or 2nd to fight for the gold medal. A first in QR and first in SP meant the skater who was 3rd in the short needed 'help' to even have a chance to win. Not that it was impossible-- we saw Kwan do just that in 2000.

Lambiel also had a breakthrough performance in the QR at '03 Worlds, which put him in the final SP group and the people who saw it believed he would fight for a medal. I'm sure, even without the QR results counting for anything, that we will still see more memorable moments. I'd just still be really surprised if it causes much of a buzz outside of the hardcore fans' circles. It didn't really do much in 2011 or 2012, but then again, there wasn't the Twitter/IG following that there is now.

Exactly. Sometimes a skater you've never even heard of does a fantastic performance, and that's an incredible thing to see. I sat through all the qualifying rounds in 2001, and Angelo Dolfini from Italy absolutely brought the house down with his performance - he was so excited he was jumping up and down on the ice after he finished 😆 He got to do the short program but didn't make it to the free skate, but all that week I saw people coming up to him in the concourse and congratulating him on his qualifying skate. To have seen that performance is as special to me as getting to see the more famous skaters.

OMG - I was there and wept buckets during Ryan Jahnke's QR! I also remembered what Peggy Fleming had said about Torvill and Dean, "we are so lucky to be here to see this!"

Anyone else who bought tickets still waiting to get their seats confirmed? I’ve sent emails and left phone messages and have gotten no response since early last Thursday morning. I’m getting concerned since there are only two days until the general public starts buying tickets.

ETA: Finally got a call and am settled!
