Having done a 2nd all-nighter, I'm off to bed for some sleep. It is minus 24 Celsius (feeling like minus 30) outside here, by the way. BRRRRRRRRR!

I watched the women for mostly the first time this season. Used to be my 2nd favorite discipline. At least it's not stressful to watch when I don't care who wins.

Amber looked nervous in a way I feel she hasn’t looked in a long time. She appeared to be landing the jumps on the warm up, but her shoulders were up to her ears and she just looked completely stressed. Not surprised at the pop in the program.

She should be worried about the PCS gap that has developed between her and the top women as well. And with the tentativeness she has shown this season, it’s probably justified. The careful vibe isn’t getting it done.

Alysa continues to get away with that combo, but at some point I assume she will not. It seems like such an unnecessary risk. But the program is so perfect for her and I’m not tired of it yet.

Thought Mone was great today. This program comes alive when the crowd is into it.

:fragile: I'm so busy and stressed with work I didn't even realize the GPF was this week. I thought it was next week. 🙃 Oh well... Will catch up later, I guess.

All I’m going to say is Mone should be in second. Alysa, the world champion, had a much harder combo and a much much much more sophisticated and mature program. Mone still presents Junior even with the Mrs. Roper embellishment and that’s fine …. for me, her maturity and presentation will get there just not now.

I'm going against the grain, but I'd have Ami Nakai in first and Chiba in third.

Nakai had highest base value and the the cleanest jumps other than the step out.

Chiba's 3Lze< or generously 3Lz!q should in no way have had positive GOE. +2s and +3s for this jump were outrageous home cooking. The edge and underrotation together were as severe a mistake as anyone else had on an element with base value.

Liu's 3Lz+3Lo was < and should've been -2 in my book.

On replay, Sakamoto was lucky not to have her 3F called <. It looked worse than the 3T after it.

I agree about the PCS issue for Amber. The problem is that she's been stuck in the 33 range for over a year, and never higher than 33.79 in the short...regardless how 'clean' the program was. I thought the judges could have really dumped her if they wanted to, and glad they didn't.

We should blame Damon for being the jinx, after doing an interviewing saying how clean her 3As have been in competition this season. That article also said Amber flew to Austria to shoot a commercial and train, then back to Colorado for a few days around Thanksgiving to train and off to Japan. Maybe all the travel was adding up too?

Lots of reasons to pearl clutch, but she did hold it together for the rest of the program without completely melting down. And she's in good company, the three time world champion also had an issue with a solo jump.

Hoping for a redemption skate tomorrow and better momentum heading into nats.

Freaky deaky event but Mone and Alysa were fab.

I thought Mone finally started to get "her" program so wasn't surprised when Mark said Kaitlyn came out to work with her on refining her program right before the competition. The 2A was a beauty and much better than previous competitions. Everything else foot perfect.

Alysa's program has transcended the wicekty wack travesty of IJS where she's managed to skate TO the music and still incorporate all the transitions and features in ways that are organic and choreographically interesting.

Ami - good attempt at the 3A and the rest of the elements were great.

Rinka - solid 3A. Feel like her PCS tends to be pretty lowballed since I think she has great musicality and expression.

Kaori - weird doubling out of the lutz. Still strong elements but that mistake just sucked the air out of the rest of the skate.

Amber - could feel the tension and nerves just seeing her take her starting pose. Glad she could keep it together after the popped axel. I love this program for her and think it will be a hit with the once every four years audience.

Pronunciation of Kaori:

That's why I think it has 3 syllables. ;) I have been told that in Japanese, you pronounce every vowel as well. I would love to hear from a native speaker though.

I just got a chance to watch the replay on Peacock. I didn't wish to know what the results were and therefore, I didn't come to find out here at FSU.

I know this much. Mone has it going for her. She was fun to watch; her jumps were awesome and no pops. She deserved her score placement of 1st.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching Alysa! As usual, she has that smooth flow and is elegant and whimsical. I love that program, and she can't go wrong with it.

When it was Amber's time to skate, the first thing I said out loud was, "Please stay calm and don't pop that triple axel!" Lo and behold, she popped it. I felt so bad for her, and she needed to just shake it off. I saw the disappointment on her face, and it almost brought me to tears.

I also felt so bad for Rinka. I do love her skating, and she's a very powerful skater. I believe her nerves got to her. I believe that she'll overcome that with her LP.

I'm totally looking forward to watching the LPs.

Thank you everyone for PBP!

Imo, Mone still skates juniorish. Like Rinka, nothing much is going on facially until the hard jumps are done, Mone is almost as flat or deadpan faced as Rinka until the step sequence. But not as bad as Rinka. Alysa is more elegant and mature and just has the better overall package imo. Their jump errors seemed to cancel each other out. Mone has the better skating skills. Alysa has superior performance quality, choreography, musicality, etc and sells it to the rafters every time. I would have had her in first, with Mone in second. Ami also skates young/juniorish but her performance quality imo is superior to Mone's as well as her skating skills. I feel that Ami is an absolute threat for the Olympic podium. But her 3A error let her down again today. Third was fine but I think she could have also been placed ahead of Mone, in second.

Oh Amber. Kaori. My heart my heart! :fragile::wuzrobbed

I watched the FS so I know that they both shook it off and rose up!

Some folks have mentioned the Olympic TE. Alysa must of course do the SP. Amber the FS. I've decided. Yes, in my alternate universe the decision has been made! Alysa and Amber will BOTH be in the TE! 😁

Don`t forget, US is very team oriented. In past O`s people like Mirai, Nathan gave their best performance for the team. I think Amber will definately feel that way. Both she and Alysa will have a chance for a medal.
