2025-26 Program Music and Choreographers

🙄 indeed. A pity. I am not a fan of the message of that song, but at least it's musically different from others, as none of the notable teams are using Destiny's Child. Now they are probably going to change it to something safe that someone else is also using.
ISU bio already updated; it’s now She’s Got Issues by The Offspring. A speedy music edit ready for GPdF.

The ISU are really a bunch of idiots. The music already needs to be uploaded to a system. So step it up and it should be manually checked by someone in the organization if it's going to come to these later decisions or last-minute 'no, you can't use that' nonsense.

Oh, look at me hobby-horsing again.

I'm with you. There is no reason why the IDTC can't take the time to sift through and manually approve each and every RD song selection if they're going to be this nitpitcky about what fits the criteria they laid out.

Or, you know, revise the criteria to allow for some of these "slower-tempo" songs.

And yet the IDTC insists that a major reason why the CD phase was dumped was because no one wanted to sit through the same 20 songs for each CD. One can't make this crap up.
But it was true. Most people didn’t want to do that, and it was the case for a long time before they got dumped. In the few and far between videos we got of CD coverage pre-2004 or so, the stands were always nearly empty.

I think CBS spoofed it a bit during the Olympics in 94 and talked to some of the hardcore fans that were there to watch everything.

Anyways, major overhaul needed in terms of program construction and themes but it’s nothing new that most of us have been ranting about.

I guess you missed my sarcasm there. 😉

We're going to suffer through a season of RDs that are about as varied as any CD segment, all because Shawn Rettstatt hates waltzes, thinks the best 90s music was only in clubs and doesn't know jack squat about what actually would have the potential to create a viral moment with this ridiculous decades music kick he's been on for the past few seasons.

According to Maya Bagriantseva’s Telegram, Davis/Smolkin have also been told that the Destiny’s Child section of their RD is not “high energy” enough and are having to change it out.
This does not bode well for Guignard/Fabbri. Show Me the meaning of being lonely is slower than the Destiny’s Child section in D/S's RD (unless they are using some sort of remix, but failed to list it).

I have watched several RDs and this isn't working at all. It pains me to see so many talented teams going to the Olympics with these kind of programmes. There are so many great and interesting teams, especially in that mid to low level, but the current rules for the RD make it nearly impossible to create something truly special and unique.

Yes. Show Me The Meaning of Being Lonely is very Rhumba-ish.

Not being a Backstreet Boys fan I had to google this song and found the official video:

Very "upbeat" so should be fine ;)

gahhhhh... i really needed their programs to rise to the level of their skatings skills this year :wuzrobbed:duh::wall:

I think the problem with the '90s music is less that there's such a limited number of songs that will work and more that teams aren't getting creative enough.

It feels like everyone is choosing from the same pool of pop music: boy bands, Madonna, Spice Girls, poppy hip hop, etc. Then there's those that are doing nonsensical remixes that don't capture a particular musical moment of the '90s. All of this makes it seem like this is less about celebrating the '90s and more just going through the motions. It's as if they asked ChatGPT for '90s music people like and boom there's their RD.

There's a lot of good '90s stuff that is just being ignored and would make for much better programs that reflect interesting musical movements of the '90s: grunge, ska, punk, alt rock/NuMetal, pop rock, R&B, female rappers/country artists, etc. There's so much music you can't blame rights issues alone.

I can't wait to see Piper/Paul's RuPaul RD. Carreira/Ponomarenko's Crystal Waters RD is also great. Take us to the club. So there is creativity out there - it's just very limited.

Lol here you go. I don't think it's especially private.

Edit: Gone now, hoping unrelated to my linking!

In the championships I was at, the CD's started in the morning, and the stands were as empty as for the quali rounds -- they still had them -- or the occasionally weird noon finals that weren't on the weekend.

They didn't have to have the CD's performed to the same six or eight tracks they imposed on the skaters and which sounded like something piped out of suburban mall dance studios where the teachers looked like they had lost their will to live. They could have chosen, oh, maybe 30 or 40 tracks with the same rhythms but from a variety of decades and let the skaters pick, if they didn't want the skaters to pick their own and have formal reviews over whether they met the requirements.
