You know there are worse things than Tchaikovsky R&J. There's the movie. With voiceovers. Making fun of Juuuullliiiiiiieeeet was great but we don't need more of that in our lives.

Well, there is the Nino Rota soundtrack, which is a beautiful score.

Honestly, I enjoy all three of the most famous versions used in skating - Tchaikovsky, Rota & 1996. There are far worse choices of music skaters can make... and, let's face it, Cats was one of those and BecGuar wound up doing okay with it.

What I want to know is who picked what? Was R&J Matteo's choice or did he want Riverdance? If he wanted Riverdance is he going to be as animated skating to that as he was skating to Cats (also his choice) this past season?

There's also the Abel Korzeniowski version of R&J which has already been used plenty, and (along the lines of Rota's version) lends itself to 'beautiful' skating even if it's really not

Oh, good point! So, there are four acceptable R&J scores that can be used in skating, lol.

Prokofiev is my favorite, then Rota. Tchaikovsky is too schmaltzy for me. I love pretty much everything else Tchaikovsky wrote, just not that one.

Nowhere did I say that any program needs to combine pieces from more than one of those, lol. Having said that, I do recall that program and I didn't find it as egregious as some other music combinations we've been subjected to over the years - probably because the scores/soundtracks themselves are quality and she wasn't using emo covers of perfectly good songs.
