Ohhhhhhhh is she’s sneaking in on competitor Loena’s team?

She wants some of that gay pride, disco ball festival programs that’s giving Loena success.

Or maybe just the barely existent choreography?

Hoo boo, sounds like it will be a warhorse season with most of these selections. And we'll probably get a gazillion "Wicked" and "Gladiator" programs for the Olympic year. Sigh.

I’m glad you said it, I know I’m always complaining about warhorses and I almost made a post about it last night but oh my gosh phantom of the opera for the Italians … yuk. I’m going to research Kimmy Repond music today because of this I’ve never heard of that, it’s going to be warhorse like you’ve never seen.

they should institute a new music rule …you get a plus 1 bonus for using unique and unheard music. You can use west side story if you want if that’s all you can really come up with but you won’t get any bonus points.

I know when I saw that yesterday I was like just take them off the circuit. No one needs to see Pirates, no one needs to see Phantom. Figure skating is a creative sport yet they’re displaying zero creativity.

If I could figure skate, I would never choose any music that has been done, I would always want to skate to something that’s uniquely myself. Not something that’s associated with 5000 other skaters. And I don’t care how much I like bolero, I’m leaving that to Torvill and Dean. There’s so much out there there’s no need to skate to rain in your dark eyes and all of that BS now lol. I would even reach out to musicians or heck even Eric Radford to create music that’s solely for me. I just don’t understand why anyone would choose Exogenesis anymore

Ghilardi/Ambrosini are following Dracula and Morricone’s Good/Bad/Ugly with this?
They’re on the Big Time Hit Parade trail. ?

I have less of a problem with warhorses than with these choreographers/skaters with ZERO lack of imagination. If a Broadway score appeals to them, why choose "Phantom," "Les Miz," "West Side Story" for it's 11 millionth iteration this decade. Use the ballet suites from "Oklahoma" or "Carousel" or the glorious score from "On the Town," for example.

Perhaps economics plays partially into music choices, as prior edits exist and skaters/teams save money by not getting new music cut especially for them. But unless they can bring something fresh to the interpretation, no matter how rousing music might be (or not be, looking at you "Exogenesis," and "Blues for Klook") I see no reason to do something that's been done to death. If it's not going to be brilliant in both movement and athletic execution, it isn't going to be memorable.

Granted a lot of skaters have taken advantage of using music with lyrics and done contemporary music since it's been allowed, but with varied success. I think skaters and especially choreographers need to remember a program needs to be almost like a mini-play, having some narrative the skaters play out through the music, even if it isn't "obvious" to the audience. And by that, I mean don't follow the Eteri school of random transitions in programs for no sensible reason.

Thank you. That's my TED talk for today.

Guys, we can fix two things at once. Just change the rulebook so that only 4-5 specific pieces of music with full clearance rights are allowed at any level and the music licensing for replays issue goes away completely. (These will be Exogenesis, El tango de Roxanne, Bolero, Rain in Your Black Eyes, and either Papa Can You Hear Me or that dirge version of 7 Nation Army.)

I like these choices, especially I Feel Love and the all-Moby free dance.

Don’t forget the soothing sounds of West side story.
