2023 World Team Trophy Day 3

ChoAd - really nice 3tw to open! SBS 3s+1e+2s - nice! And she's down on the SBS 3T. Well, at least they got those 2Ss in so they're part of the international club! She's really sound on the 3s with a beautiful throw again today. Eeek - lift fail, but she came down safely and that's good. Throw 2z - meh... Much better on this last lift. Duhamel's right, ending on a pairs combo spin is almost never a god idea. Well, overall, not too shabby. Work to be done still, for sure, but credible.

it was fun to watch them, is he American?

My post earlier in this thread:
Yes. They train with McIntosh/Mimar & she competed at Canadian Nationals in Novice several years ago - just started pairs this season, IIRC. Adcock’s a veteran pair guy from GBR originally who has competed at CAN Nationals several times with previous partners.
Adcock's wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steven_Adcock

"Adcock moved to Canada in 2016 to team up with Mariah McCaw for Canada." He also competed with Patricia Andrew - they placed 5th in Senior at 2022 CAN Nationals.

No, Tony is correct about the appearance fee for Knierim/Frazier's partnership, which is $20,000.
WTT appearance fees do not go by ISU World Standings.
WTT appearance fees go by ISU Season's World Rankings and/or Worlds placements, per the WTT announcement.

From my earlier tally of WTT appearance fees (in the WTT general thread):

Dance appearance fees:
USA Chock/Bates $30,000 (first at Worlds) [third in SWR]
ITA Guignard/Fabbri $30,000 (first in SWR) [second at Worlds]
CAN Gilles/Poirier $10,000 (third at Worlds)

Pairs appearance fees:
JPN Miura/Kihara $30,000 (first at Worlds) [second in SWR]
ITA Conti/Macii $30,000 (first in SWR) [third at Worlds]
USA Knierim/Frazier $20,000 (second at Worlds)

Men appearance fees:
KOR Cha $20,000 (second at Worlds) [third in SWR]
USA Malinin $20,000 (second in SWR) [third at Worlds]

Women appearance fees:
JPN Sakamoto $30,000 (first at Worlds, first in SWR)
KOR Lee $20,000 (second at Worlds)
USA Levito $20,000 (second in SWR)
Ahhh, I missed that it was SWR not WS. Whoops. Ah well!

So, here's the leader chart for each individual person:

1) Sakamoto ($30k+$20k) $50k
2) Malinin, Levito ($20k+$25k) $45k
3) Cha, Lee ($20k+$21,250) $41,250
4) Chock, Bates ($15k+$25k) $40k
5) Frazier, Knierim ($10k+$25k) AND Kihara, Miura ($15k+$20k) $35k
6) Conti, Fabbri, Guignard, Macii ($15k+$18,750) $33,750
7) Gilles, Poirier ($5k+$16,250) $21,250

Not a bad payday at all for those 17 skaters.

At the risk of overthinking things, I have a question about WTT prize money for @tony, @Karen-W, @Sylvia, or anyone else:

Has there been any confirmation in writing (in this year or past years) that any or all federations divide the team's WTT prize money equally among the eight individuals on the team?
My assumption is that each federation has discretion over how its WTT prize money for the team is distributed to individual skaters.

For placements at ISU championships, an individual skater from dance or pairs does not receive the same prize money as a singles skater.
Which makes me wonder about the possibility that a federation (by its own choice) perhaps would model its distribution of WTT prize money after ISU championships prize money?? (No matter how other federations choose to divide the WTT money.)
For example, a Worlds gold medal is worth $64,000 to the winning singles skater; $90,000 to the winning pair; $90,000 to the winning dance couple.

Big disclaimer: I am staying away from expressing an opinion as to what would be "more fair" or "less fair." 😇

The WTT Announcement states the feds may withhold 10% and the rest of the winnings are to be split equally amongst all team members.

I finally had time to see the videos of 2023 World Team Trophy late today.

Jason Brown is MY HERO.

He is an EXCELLENT Team Leader, the very best fan, he got the Americans together and cheering for each other big time.

Obviously, his two performances had a tremendous affect on the Americans' First Place Overall Result. He was 4th in the Short, for 9 team points. And, even though the Americans had already won first overall by that time in the contest, it was almost a surprise at the end to realize he had come in Third individually in the Men's Long, for another 10 team points. OUTSTANDING.

Jason has been competing for so many years, it's amazing to think he is still hanging in there at the top of the results. And what he has done this year is unreal and not an impossible dream.

What a guy, I really hope he can still compete next year, stay in for us fans! And if he "retires" to show skating, he would still be selected by many exhibitions and we would still see him.

Well, the men menned, but aside from that, what a fabulous event! Someday I want to see a skating event in Japan. Congrats to all the medalists--that was one lively, happy podium.

But what's really important is the KnC game, and I would have it:
1. France, after a rough start, what a comeback!
2. Korea, strong all the way through but having an empty box at one point...d'oh!
3. Japan (I mean, do they deserve third, not really, but home field advantage and they have Kaori.)
4. USA (Technically not strong, but the Todd poster...gotta give them the PCS for that. And Jason Brown, just Jason Brown in general)
5. Canada, though really good showing Canada. Had the moose been always present, maybe you could have eeked out the bronze...but sigh.
6. Italy, cause their face signs were just a little creepy somehow in a way that the other countries weren't.

I don't think I ever actually saw the moose! Can someone provide a screenshot or a link to a pic?

Finally getting around to the replays of Day 3.

I was wondering if Alexa and Brandon accidentally switched jackets because his was tight and looked like he was having trouble zipping it up. Alexa's looked loose on her.

Fabulous competition, also on my bucket list to attend a skating event in Japan. So impressed with Team Korea, its like the juniors are firmly established as seniors after so much promise. Japan of course excelled, although I think they actually peaked for worlds. Canada.. le sigh.. will be a big hole to fill after Keegan. Glad we do have some depth in pairs and dance though.

Hmm... I'm having trouble finding Day 3 (or any figure skating, for that matter) on Peacock. Maybe it will pop up tomorrow?

ETA - found it by using the search function. It was not listed under sports.
