2023-2024 Rhythm dance

Does the 'announcement' so far specify 1980s? I mean, there were some bangers in the 1780s (Like "The Marriage of Figaro") 1880s (Like "1812 Overture").

Just to be clear - I know it means 1980s, but I'd love it if a team intentionally misinterpreted the intention.

Sorry I am very late to the party and attention to detail is not my strong point ie its a long thread and i havent read it all. So 80s is the theme but is there going to be a specific rhythm and if so has i been announced yet? Thanks

Ive also got a question in relation to the free dance. Now that lyrics are allowed why does there have to be a change of beat/tempo (also not sure what that means exactly) Some songs tell a really great story and because of the required change the skaters cant tell it all. I can understand with instrumental pieces as the same music may be monotonous but songs have stories verses choruses and bridges which can give them interest and sometimes I think it would be nice for a team to tell the whole story in their performance. Any thoughts?

It may end up being a Michael Jackson festival + Whitney Houston.

Thinking about Can you feel it? & Jill Trenary’s look & style, in last minute of this:

Prepare for big high shoulder pads & teased hair, LOL!

There's some fun 80s songs, but I'm not sure how many of these suggestions are really danceable? As in having a good beat for dancing.

I guess the good thing about low expectations is they are easily exceeded!! :saint:

Or in the case of skating, it turns out to be even worse than you could have imagined or expected 😁

I think it challenges the teams more to have a change of beat/tempo, and it shows (well, it should show) that they can dance convincingly at different paces. TBH it would be kind of boring to see a team skate to the same song for the entire RD, and the lyrics would probably trap them into portraying the story that's in the lyrics, which would be dull too. The free dance is longer and that's more of an opportunity to tell an entire story, and not have to tell it literally.

So is it just that the PTB in ice dance have no better memory of these things than I do? Really they don't have a reason to treat a waltz theme as though it was all going to be 1850s as they know its not.

ETA: Of course I do remember this one from 2015-16 because it is one of my favorites. :swoon:
Thanks for the link to my favorite waltz on ice! I always felt Weaver/Poje were overlooked/not appreciated.
