2022-23 ISU Grand Prix Assignments are published

According to their coach Sofia is injured :(
At least Sierova/Khobta are age-eligible for seniors - and being sent to Warsaw Cup - so, hopefully, they will be able to compete at Euros and earn Ukraine two spots, if Sofia isn't healthy by then.

Peng/Jin are crossed off both of their GP's (France and Finland)

Wow has there ever been a season where so many pairs teams have been removed from the Grand Prix?

Especially after a season where there were so many teams that retired and moved on

at this rate @Karen-W And I are going to be recruited to represent the USA. I can do crossovers I’m sure she can do a spiral sequence and will somehow make it work, and probably get the bronze

Pairs sees a lot of changes from the GP initial assignments every season - injuries, injuries, injuries. What was unexpected were some of the retirements, especially from teams that were initially assigned GPs.

Oh, you do not want me to be your partner. I can't skate. But, you find a partner and I'll make your costumes!

Still think it would have been preferable to have just 4 grand prix with couples invited this year instead of all 6 in order to limit this depleted field impression…Not all challengers or Junior Grand Prix propose a couple competition either, so why not for Grand Prix as well?

The ISU didn’t know what the status of Russia would be, and I’m sure they didn’t anticipate so many drop-outs and late-summer retirements/partner switches.

Had it been only 4 events, that’s 32 spots total. The JGP events have a much higher (potential) cap on entrants if all nations use their allotted spots.

Oh, so you were just kidding about doing pairs with me. I see how you are...just lift me up and throw me away.

Sweetie darling have you seen the depletion? Her and I are going to represent the Pacific Northwest you and I will represent the rest of the country.
Oh, you two can partner and I'll assist with your costumes. Just send me your music selections and I'll create something unique that will certainly pass the sniff test with FSU's fashion mavens. What colors look best on you? Oh, and just so you know, I'll not be indulging in that awful sheer skirt trend.

Oh, come on! Don't you have Amber on speed-dial? She's got even worse taste in music than TeamTodd&Jenni!

While our girl does have very emo ballad music selection taste in recent years...the FS does build and musically goes somewhere...as opposed to a lot of the other angsty music cuts from other skaters.

The other night I heard some song on satellite radio and knew it was someone's music from this season. Turns out it was Maxim Naumov's SP music to Glimpse of Us by Joji...the same artist as his SP music last year which was Run.

Espoo now has two slots in pairs open. As good as the other hosts have been about filling spots last minute or after the required replacement deadline, I'm sure these spots won't go to waste either since there's still a lot of time left.

perhaps a skort ?
I was thinking catsuits since I have no idea which of you will be doing the throwing and lifting and which of you will be thrown and lifted in this partnership.

The GP general announcement states that hosts have to fill open pairs spots when they occur more than 2 weeks ahead of the event, so Espoo will definitely fill both spots. I'm hoping they tapped Efimova/Blommaert right away since she is Finnish.

The FFSG doesn't have to since we are within 2 weeks of GPdF, but seeing that they filled the open Men's slot that happened on Monday and there are 4 Europe-based pairs teams on the alternates list, I fully expect them to fill it. Crossing my fingers for Osipova/Epstein to get this invitation, but I wouldn't be surprised if Valesi/Piazza get a second. It's sort of a crapshoot at this point, though.

I also am not holding my breath that McBeath/Bartholomay will make it to MKJW - and that's going to be a real opportunity for some teams to earn some good prize money and GP points - before today's withdrawals, I was hoping Efimova/Blommaert would wind up there somehow, but they'd be very competitive for the podium at Espoo too.

@SidelineSkater Is more of a winter Bride , and I like to think of myself as Goth meets prince meets bodybuilder meets construction worker

So basically black and reflective orange

Uh. I need a catsuit to show off my lines. I will NOT wear white, off white, pale pink or pewter. Those are not my favorite choices for other skaters colors.

And for those suffering through this thread drift, both ANL and I are males, so no worries of us partnering up without some type of Blades of Glory Rule change. Although the comparison is frighteningly similar to MacElroy/Michael-Michaels.

YES!!! This is a dream team made in heaven! You read my mind about catsuits! And avoiding white, off-white, pewter or any of the trendy millennial shades is a must.

ANL thinks basic black and reflector orange, which doesn't really scream Winter Bride or Goth meets Village People. I think the color palette will most certainly depend on your music selections.

I am finding two completely different sets of competition times for Finland on 11/26. Is there a 100% accurate time schedule for Finland 11/26 yet? I'm trying to get out of figure out how I am going to watch Finland, but keep finding two completely different time schedules. I see one set of times on Finland site, another set of times on Peacock that do not match at all.

Peacock's times aren't usually cleaned up to reflect the actual competition times until the week of the competition. Go with whatever is on the Finland site.

I remember, that 10 years ago ISU allowed top skaters to participate in 3 GP.
I think it would be a good decision for this season.

I think the ISU stopped allowing that at least 20 years ago, before SLC.

But, I don't know that this would address the problem with the lack of high level pairs teams, in part because I'm not sure all or any of them would opt in to a 3rd GP. Some would, but some wouldn't. I remember it being a hot mess when the ISU allowed it - the skaters had to designate which one was their non-scoring event and if they pulled out of one of their designated scoring events then they couldn't use the non-scoring one to earn points.

As things currently stand, there are 7 teams on the alternates list, 3 of whom don't have any GP assignments, so there are enough teams to fill 10 spots. Three of them are going to be assigned in the next day or two, to fill the currently open spots. I can't see 7 more spots opening up over the last 4 GPs, so I don't think there's much to worry about. I rather appreciate that these teams are getting the chance to compete. Same goes for the singles skaters and ice dancers who have received GP assignments. I'd rather these skaters have this opportunity than saddle the top tier skaters with the responsibility of competing in 3 GPs.

I answered your original email here (post #18)…see the linked announcement from Espoo:
