2021/2022 Canadian Men: News and Updates

There are plenty of other threads where the anti-vax libertarian nonsense can be posted. Let's keep it out of this one, OK?
I don’t want to fight anybody on this site. All I will say is use your own common sense and do some research there is more out there. Take your labels off people you don’t even know

It really makes you wonder if and when the final variant is no more harmful then the regular flu or cold if they are ever going to let us takes these damn masks off. Sickness is a part of living and you can't control germs it's why we have an immune system.
That's fine for the average healthy adult. But I have a daughter with MS on immunosuppressive therapy, and her husband has had a heart transplant. They have both been vaccinated, but the immunity doesn't last long because of the medications they are on.

I tend to think of Roman as a better long program skater, so I hope he shows the Olympics judges what he's capable of tonight.
I was wrong in my prediction of how he'd do in the SP and wrong again for the FP (unfortunately). Sadly probably the worst skate I've seen from Roman. I'm hoping he can do well in the individual event, now that these ones are out of his system.

Sadly, I won't be holding my breath.

And in Canadian men news.... I hope that Keegan had a spare set of skates that went on ahead on the charter plane so that all this effort to get him there isn't for nothing if the airlines lose his skates while he's enroute.
No kidding - so many stops en route and so much potential for lost luggage! Between the positive tests, last minute flights, worrying about skates arriving, and basically going from plane to competition ice, I will be amazed if he has any energy for skating when he finally gets to Beijing! Or maybe all that will be motivating ... who knows!

He's going via Milan. There is no direct flight from Montreal to Milan, so this make his itinerary as

Anchorage -> Seattle -> Vancouver -> Montreal -> (somewhere in Europe) -> Milan -> Beijing
I read someone's post on twitter saying how they should have tagged him with a tracking number so people could keep track of him until he reaches the end of the journey.
I'm assuming he took the 16:50 flight to Zurich, which was the earliest planned departure to Europe (unless he went through Toronto). There were also later flights to Frankfurt, Paris, Brussels, Lyon, Malaga, Geneva, and London, but the Zurich one is, I believe, what the dancers based in Montreal took, so I'm assuming it was the top pick. But then, I haven't gone into a deep dive to see what schedules are the best for getting him there.

Also, I'm just putting it out there to the travel and skating gods, but PLEASE let Keegan's skates make it to the final destination with him!

If you type in Montreal to Milan on FlightAware.com, there's an Air Canada flight to Frankfurt that transfers to a Lufthansa flight to Milan - that's the one I think he was on. Then a layover in Milan and an Air China flight to Beijing.

That puts him in Beijing at 9am Monday morning Beijing time, about 24 hours before the Men's SP starts. Absolute insanity.

The funny thing is that, as the crow flies, he thus far has been closest to Beijing when he was at his home.

Crazy.

I hope he's not too exhausted!

I hope he has one of those seats on the plane that can fully recline or be an actual bed, so he can get some sleep. What an arduous journey! No matter how he skates, everyone will be cheering that he actually made it there on the ice.
Keegan has to be one of the most wholesome guys on the face of the planet. This will endear him even more.

For me, watching him struggle so and sit with his head down among his teammates was very sad. Aside from Keegan, Canada does not currently have a man that could have been competitive. If Roman had skated clean with both quads, triple axel, and all his jumps could he really have done better than maybe 4th at best? Could any of the others?

Can you all just give Roman a break? Good lord, as if he doesn't feel bad enough all on his own for how he performed in the team event. It doesn't matter what type of male skaters Canada has right now, Roman made it to the Olympics... how many of you can say that? Should we coddle him like a baby... hell no but holy crap... relax on the negativity!
