Great fight to get through that today from Madeline. Her practices have seemed pretty up and down, even issues on jumps that are usually money for her. So, great for her to get through it relatively unscathed today.

I know she said she hadn’t been around her coach that much because of an exposure at home but still going to be holding my breath that she doesn’t test positive before the free. :(

Great fight again today for Madeline. Really impressed with her coming back after those two big errors.

Looks like Canada is going to miss out on two spots by less than half a point though :( So close.

Ouch. She'll get there. Overall, it's better a good season finale her first year of semester competition. Well done, Maddie 👏

Madeline was 10th in the SP and 10th in the FS - unfortunately some others below her jumped ahead in the free skate, leaving her in 12th spot overall (just barely).

Sigh...so close and 10th in both segments but 12th overall has to sting. This was our best chance to get two spots back without any Russians here. It's easier to keep two spots when you have two spots. Hopefully Maddie will continue to develop her skating and improve her PCS. She's far and away Canada's top skater at the moment and I don't see that changing any time soon but of course I hope for 2 spots for home worlds in 2024.

How come

How come in 2011 gabby daleman finished 11th and secured 2 for Canada?
Because Chartrand was 23th.

It is easier to confirm 2 spots with 2 entries than earning them in first place with one entry.
When you have 2 skaters, the sum of points related to their placements must be equal or less than 28. Skaters who qualify for FS and ends in 16-24th pavements, all get 16 points. So it was 16 from Chartrand + 11 from Daleman= 27= 2 spots.

Here's a question what happens if you have two skaters but only one makes the FS how high does the skater who made the FS have to finish to keep two spots?

In that scenario the skater who did make the FS must be top 10.

In Belgium's case since she got silver, they get 3 since a single skater needs at least a top 2 placement for 3 spots? correct?

It's sad that Maddi couldn't capitalize on the Russians' absence to make top 10 and secure 2 spots for Canadian women for Worlds next season. Then again, perhaps Canadian women do not need or deserve 2 spots.

Whatever happened to Kaiya? She had a decent first half of a season and then disappeared? Is it injuries? Is she going to Jr Worlds?

Maybe switching to Pairs? She seems to be petite enough.

Seriously? Maddie was less than a point out of tenth. Don't be so negative.
