2020 Japan Nationals - Men SP

So I've said this at least twice before, but when Erin and I went to junior worlds in Zagreb, there was a Japanese lady sitting next to us, and after Shimada skated, she threw a bouquet of flowers onto the ice. And she accidentally also threw her cell phone. I think it's my favorite live skating moment ever.

This reminds me of when I was at an opera and the male lead in Norma somehow broke part of the floor - he stepped on it and his foot went through and left a hole there for the rest of the scene. I honestly think it is the happiest I have ever seen the friend I was with in my entire life. She was overjoyed by it.

The vibe in this K & C is like polite conversation at a party with someone you just met for the first time, it's cracking me up.

For a second there I thought this was going to be Ojos Asi and I was pumped but alas

Komono: I feel like I've seen this exact costume tonight already... yes, I have. A committed skate. I appreciated the butt shaking.

And with that... I need to take some vitamins and go... to... sleep.

So the judges decided Yuzu's sit twizzle is a spin, not a transition.
Perhaps not. Do you think that either of the spin positions on the second foot hit 2 rotations in the positio? If not, that would also make it no Level

That’s not correct regarding the no level/no element. It would just be a reduction of the level.

Seems that they did think that transition was a first attempt at the spin, and I have to say it’s not the best location for such a transition and I’m sure it’ll be changed now. I was waiting for the day that Shcherbakova’s ‘transition’ of changing her costume got called a base-level upright spin, but she was lucky to never get that call.

I can't pick between Hanuy and Uno, they both came up with very unexpected programmes and did quite well. Loved both of them.

I hesitate to respond a comment that has zero relevancy to the Japanese Nationals Men's SP, but... just so we are clear here... What's your thoughts on the competency of the government leaders in Canada, France or Germany? The US is hardly the only country that is foregoing an audience at Nationals or, you know, having the event at all.
I don't know enough about the leaders of those countries... I just know that certain other countries are practically out of the woods now, even without a vaccine. (Sorry, I didn't intend to derail the thread.)

Hanyu always skated / had programmes there were all inside - as if he was skating for himself and we were kindly allowed to pick into his inside world. Which is quite special. This programme is all `Here I am! I'm skating for you!'. I couldn't imagine the same skater could be so good in both styles, but wow, he is!
And my Christmas wish is to see Uno's SP live. In my books it's one of the best programmes in figure skating ever and that's only from the TV screen. I can't imagine what it must be like live.

I think Kagiyama's programme was more intricate and Hanyu's more selling to the crowd. but Kagi's pcs is too low.

I was really hating Hanyu’s SP until he finished the combination. Then I started to really enjoy it. I wish he interpreted the music more for the first minute. It’s just a random arm flail or kick here or there, and Hanyu isn’t into it until the quads are done.

It was kind of a strange watching experience. I was just hating it so much, and then suddenly really got into it!

I’m not into Hanyu’s program at all. No, I don’t think he needs to skate to Chopin for the next however many years he keeps going, but this just looked awkward to me and like @thvudragon said, there’s not much in the first half of the program unless you consider that literal ass shake choreography as riveting stuff.

But I also thought Savchenko/Massot’s Olympic season free skate was just okay in the first outing, so there’s that..
