I was coming to post this. Someone in the government has half a brain and realized that putting all those half-naked singers in the holy city wasn't such a good idea. In Tel Aviv they can walk down the street in costume and people will barely notice.

Tamar Kaprelian (Armenian singer who competed at Eurovision 2015 and in Depi Evratesil, Armenia's national selection, in 2018) just confirmed on Twitter that she has submitted an entry for the UK national selection in 2019!

Srbuk from Armenia was the first artist to be internally selected as a contestant for the 2019 edition --- lots of action now as national final selections are getting underway with final or semi-final lineups starting to be revealed all around -- it's happening! Latvia, Estonia, Hungary, and Switzerland are underway with that --- Estonia (IMHO) is AHEAD OF THE GAME with their entries -- fully HALF the field I think would be worthy of Eurovision, and there's not one entry I outright despise!

More national final fields are known now -- and France's Destination Eurovision gets under way later today!

(Also, total sidebar, but there's a new talent competition -- called "The World's Best" -- set to debut here in the US after the Super Bowl -- very much like America's Got Talent (as in, there's talent from across the globe, in every facet of entertainment), but with a Eurovision-like twist -- three judges judge each entry, but then a 50-member "expert panel" (supposedly made up of "experts" from around the globe) will also weigh in for a combined score --

I'm aware that Daneliya Tuleshova (the young lady from Kazakhstan who finished 2nd in KAZ's debut at Junior Eurovision just a few months ago) is taking part, and I'm on the lookout for other EV personalities!

Traditionally, Albania was the first country to select their entry: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XG4VSyMD8kQ

I know -- I watched it live even here in the US! LOVE Jonida Maliqi's studio cut of "Kotheu Tokes" (I probably just misspelled that), but I thought the live version across the three night MARATHON that was FiK failed to live up to the magic -- I really thought Lidia Lufi's "Rrefehem" (which I probably ALSO just horribly misspelled) was dynamic and strong and better across all the nights, and the vote was close -- but in the end, I'm not surprised Jonida won overall, her song had created such buzz in the run-up before the contest!

Will be interesting to see who gets chosen as more countries make their decisions!

Finland will announce their competitor Jan 29th. There will be vote for the songs s/he/they will perform in Tel Aviv. Some predict Tarja Turunen, the former Nightwish singer.

Duh. French voters have selected Bilal with Roi to represent us.
I shall say that it's only his fan base that chose him. They are being ... obtuse to the fact they can't vote in May, are rude to everyone, and don't even like the show.

I don't like the song and think it's anti climatic.
I like this boy, but IMO, he can't sing in tune and has no power.

He has 3 months before the main show and has acknoledged he needs a lot of work on the song and his stage show.

I bet we'll finish last but who cares. Any other good entry? So far I don't like Spain either.

Finland internally selected Darude as their entrant :eek::eek:.

I've already posted a link to the Albanian song, here are the remaining three selected so far:

France: Bilal Hassani "Roi": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCJRigN2DmI (ok, I get the message about empowerment, but Conchita he is not - vocally, lyrically, musically - there were better songs in Destination Eurovision, e.g, Seemone, C. Badi or E. Moire)

Spain: Miki "La Venda": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vpMIb5rabKQ (extremely irritating, but also scarily catchy!)

Czech Republic: Lake Malawi "Friend of a Friend": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ho9MuPJPZ90 (nice indie-pop piece; nothing too spectacular, but it's my no. 1 atm)

For your viewing pleasure (don't worry, it's a skating video )

I'm still wondering how the heck they'll turn him into Eurovision material.
There will be a singer Sebastian Rejman with Darude. They choose from three different songs, which are introduced 8.2., 15.2. and 22.2.
I guess Finnish Broadcasting Company was a bit desperate.

Apparently Eurofans are :drama: about Kerrie-Anne not winning. :wuzrobbed

I didn't hear any of the songs so I have no opinion on the matter.

It would be nice to see Kerrie-Anne in Tel Aviv, but she wasn't as impressive live as in the studio version. I think it was a wise choice to select Michael Rice, even if his song isn't particularly original. UK finally stands a chance of being closer to top 10 :).

Michael Rice live: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_IcrNgV-O4

Other selected songs:

Australia: Kate Miller-Heidke "Zero Gravity": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZ6DS0XgUVs (zero gravity and zero points from me)

Italy: Mahmood "Soldi": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KvJUrrMgyGs (Italy sends an r'n'b flavoured tune sung partially in Arabic - a bold choice!)

Montenegro: D-Moll "Heaven": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7cW6zvxrBs (it's cheap...)

Btw, Russia will send Segey Lazarev again :smokin:.

The three song options for Darude are all pretty meh --- Kobi Marimi's song will be called "Home" (I think it'll be released in a week or two). Later today we'll have national finals in Ukraine, Lithuania, Denmark, and Hungary -- but I'm already preparing myself for Ukraine to pick MARUV (even though I hate her song and see no point to it) -- crossing fingers that "League of Light" wins Denmark (Greenlandic is just so different a language) -- and I'm still trying to figure out how Sisters won Germany with "Sister" (the sibling song in Ukraine is better staged) -- my favorite of the German songs was "Our City" but apparently the LED had a lot of spelling mistakes, and the public just tossed it -- but I really want to follow Makeda's career, she announced herself with her performance. The international jury vote was SO incredibly close, if ONE juror had flipped their 12/10/8 in a different way and given Makeda higher than Sisters, Makeda might have been the one going to Tel Aviv (though I don't know what the tiebreaker would have been). So much crowing going on about good songs getting tossed, I don't think one of my favorites has gotten through in a national final yet -- but there's a lot of diversity in styles, which is a good thing!
