2019-20 Canadian ladies news and updates

Can anyone explain the concept of Sub Sectionals? Are they a qualifying comp for Nationals? I know Sectionals qualify skaters for the challenge...

I do not know how that works factually but I do know that at some levels there are 200 girls competing in the summer so maybe they do a 2 step process for ladies. It would make sense.

Sub sectionals. Quebec runs a skate off for positions to skate at Sectionals
Ontario Sections used to also but now they take the top 60 scores from the summer competitions and those skaters go to Sections

Emma Bulawka and Emily Millard are entered in the Halloween cup. Both are eligible for the YOG, so that's two more with a chance to get scores and qualify.

That is so great! Millard is not on the next gen team (much discussion was had about her being overlooked) so it's great to see her summer skates were noticed!

Now hopefully Schizas will get an international as well.

You are the best danafan! You do such a good job of keeping track of these younger/not as well known female skaters and cheering them on.

I saw this tweet from Gabby this weekend--not sure what to make of it.

I don't know what it means regarding her skating, but to me it sounds so perfectly human. You don't have to be mentally ill to find yourself doing things you know perfectly well aren't in your best interests.

Poor Gabby is really having a tough time of it these days. Skating sounds like such a physically and mentally demanding pursuit at the elite level. With triple axels and quads thrown into the mix left and right for the ladies this season, athletes almost need a killer instinct to survive.

Gabby and Aurora on the bench. No one else killing it this year. When does Ruiter go senior? Asking for a friend.

#rhetoricalquestion

Man - this is becoming such a discouraging slump with little encouraging news coming out pretty well across the board for Canadian skating fans. I wonder how Mike Slipchuk and others with Skate Canada are sleeping at night.

Ruiter is 13 and very tiny. Growth and the puberty monster lie ahead.

I'm told her parents are pretty small...and that NOT growing has been her bigger problem. I've heard she complains about it to her coaches all the time. Precocious little thing.

It certainly looks like she is in trouble. I truly get what she is saying about knowing what you are doing is self-destructive, but watching yourself do it.

I sure hope she has someone (a medical someone) helping and directing her. The picture of her with the tweet is scary.

Does being on the bench mean she is out of competitions? I hope so. For her. I surely wish her the best.
