2017 Summer TV

Primetime Emmy Nominations were released this morning.

Jared Harris was robbed for The Crown. I thought he gave the best performance of that series. Oh well.

I'm so happy that Steven Universe received its third nomination, and with my favorite storyboard team. They chose a great episode to submit. Best show on TV.

Yes to all of the nominations for The Handmaid's Tale. I hope it wins everything especially Elisabeth Moss who gave the best performance on television. I want Best Actress in a Limited Series or TV Movie to go to either Jessica Lange or Nicole Kidman. My vote would be for Kidman who gave a stunning, quieter performance.

I'm one of Veep's fans, but I thought this past season was poorer in quality and I would not have been mad if it didn't get the nominations that it did receive. This is the first year where I felt JLD doesn't deserve the Emmy for her work here and wouldn't mind if she lost to anyone else in this category, and I didn't even watch her competition except for Lilly Tomlin and Jane Fonda.

Have the Emmy's always had a voiceover category? I don't remember seeing that before.

They've had it since 1992. It doesn't get much attention. I'm not sure how serious voice over actors take this category, though winning an Emmy is a huge award for an actor personally, just because I'm not sure how serious Emmy nominators and voters treat the animated categories:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Primetime_Emmy_Award_for_Outstanding_Voice-Over_Performance

From 1992 to 2008, it was a juried award, so there were no nominations and there would be multiple or no recipients in one year. In 2009, the rules were changed to a category award, with five nominees.

There are actually independent voice over acting awards in the industry, and the Annie Awards also have a category for voice actors.

Before the creation of this category, voiceover actors were eligible to be nominated with their live-action counterparts.

Prior to 2014, voice actors voicing characters and those doing narration work were nominated in the same category, but they have since separated the two.

I think there's probably something to be said for the right to call yourself an Emmy Award-winning whatever, to say you worked on an Emmy Award-winning show, and for shows and studios to rack up the numbers, even if it's in a niche category.

A friend of mine stayed in a sublet one summer and their was an Emmy on the shelf in some obscure category for a program we'd never heard of, but it still looked cool sitting there, and we all took pictures of each other holding it

At my law school, one of my Deans had two Emmys for a legal program our school did. When I had to be in his office for my clinical work, I would just look at them and seriously want to ask if I could take a picture with them. I never had enough courage to actually ask though.

Buzz - no idea of your age. If you are of my generation then maybe you are correct, but almost every friend and co-worker of mine had kids who played soccer when they were younger so I think the chances are there is much more of a demographic than there used to be. There is hope for you.

Nuts. I missed The Night Shift again. :(

Taped it, haven't watched yet. Had to watch tape of Nashville this morning. Can you set a DVR or whatever you have to record a series? Mine picks it up when the next season starts. EXCEPT. After Doubt was cancelled, I took it off the Record Series schedule. The show started up again on Saturday nights a couple weeks ago. I saw it on the guide and thought it was reruns from the first few shows that were on, so I didn't know it was new episodes. I looked it up online. They are the rest of the season that they did not show. Now it's too late to catch up again. Oh well. I don't have the patience to watch them all On Demand because you can't FF.
