2016 Academy Awards (Oscars) - Ceremony & Red Carpet

^^ So far MMFR is receiving a bunch of early awards. I say spread the wealth, Academy.

I hope so! Go Mad Max!

I'm hoping for Spotlight. Probably won't be The Martian. And dear God, please NOT The Revenant. Plus I think Trumbo and Concussion were both worthy of being nominated.

I've seen Room, Mad Max, Bridge of Spies and The Martian. I hope Mad Max wins because Revenant seems like such a slog

I really want to see Brooklyn and Spotlight

If you stop and think about Mad Max for more than three minutes, the whole thing falls apart. It makes no sense whatsoever even by dystopian genre standards. I agree that it is visually stunning, and Charlize Theron was amazing in it. I can see how so many enjoyed it and it was 2.5 hours of mindless entertainment. But it is NOT Oscar-worthy, nor is it a great work of rah-rah feminism.

Mad Max again!! This is becoming one of the most predictable Oscars in years. So far, all the favs have won

Awards Table (thus far)

1. Mad Max: Fury Road - 4
2. Spotlight - 1
= The Big Short - 1
= The Danish Girl - 1
= The Revenant - 1

I've seen "Bridge of Spies," "The Martian," "Mad Max," "Brooklyn," and "The Big Short." Out of the ones I've seen, I definitely don't want either Mad Max or Brooklyn to win.

Agreed.
I watched it on a plane and it would just never end!

I don't think it was mindless. The plot was straightforward but the design was complex and contributed to the overall impact of the film. Yes, it was essentially a chase movie, but done in a very impressive way IMO. I'm glad the critics recognized that and I am surprised but happy with the Academy recognition. I also had one of the highest (if not the highest) critical rating of the year.

I'm enjoying Chris Rock
Love the jabs for will smith. I did not think he was anything special in concussion
And he got 20 mil for wild Wild West. Ha ha
Benefit del toro was excellent in sciatic, he made the movie

Glad for Alicia v, but she was not supporting, she was lead

'Visually stunning' appears to be the operative phrase/ praise re all the early awards it's receiving.

So Mad Max is cleaning up in technical categories. And I do like that the "love" seems to be spread around so far in the other categories. And the ceremony is moving along....could it finish on time for once?

Yep - Max hoovered up both the sound awards!

Awards Table (thus far)

1. Mad Max: Fury Road - 6
2. Spotlight - 1
= The Big Short - 1
= The Danish Girl - 1
= The Revenant - 1

That's predicted to be it for Mad Max. Other films should now get a look in

Of those nominated: The Big Short, Spotlight and The Martian are my faves of the ones I've seen. I haven't yet seen Room, but I'm guessing I'd still go with my three faves over Room. I'm hoping to see Brooklyn soon.

Oh come on with all this uber love for Max Max Fury Road. I'm going to become apoplectic if it wins for best picture. Please!!! It's not the best action movie ever, and certainly not the best picture this year!
