Meanwhile, in Idaho v. Kohberger, the plea deal hearing is expected to be at 11am MT / 1pm ET. I’m not sure if it will be televised, but I’ll update the video feed if it becomes available.

A plea saves potential jurors from having to see crime scene photos and it also saves the family from 30+ years of hearings and appeals before an execution is even close to happening. I completely understand why some of them are angry now though.A death penalty case has a higher standard of proving guilt and there’s no guarantee that this jury would have actually voted to recommend death. I think there’s a bit of data showing that even many people who say that they support the death penalty end up being very nervous of actually voting for it.

I think he would have absolutely gotten the death penalty, based on the information that is out there in public about the case. It was a horrific crime. Intellectually, I understand the rationale behind the plea bargain, but as stone cold as Kohberger was in court during the hearing, I really wish it had gone to trial. Dead eyed, he was.
If ever people wonder why women don’t speak up about sexual and domestic abuse, this is why. These people were trafficked. He is guilty on all counts in my view and I’m disappointed in the verdicts.
Jury got it right.Erin Patterson has been found guilty of killing three in-laws with deathcap mushrooms.
It may depend on how many victim impact statements are made. From what I understand, Ethan Chapin's family has decided not to attend the sentencing, but the families of the other three and the surviving roommates could all possibly speak.Idaho v. Kohberger - The sentencing hearing begins today. I’m not sure if it will last longer than one day.

Judge just took a 10-minute recess after hearing victim statements from the two surviving roommates and the families of Maddie Mogen & Kaylee Goncalves. I don't know which one was more powerful - Dylan Mortensen (the roommate who was on the same floor & saw him) or Kaylee's older sister, Alivea. The sentencing hearing has started. Here’s another feed from NBC News.
This is already getting pretty painful to hear.![]()

I'm with the folks who think this DA just wanted to get this done so he could get to his retirement. The victim impact statements are finished. Now the “first chair” district attorney is speaking.
I know there are many, including some in this thread, who are angry about this plea deal because they wanted the death penalty (firing squad in Idaho) to remain a possibility. I’m not convinced that this DA would have gotten that sentence. Because this attorney has kinda sucked in his presentations. And juries can be very unpredictable.
The defense has declined to make a statement. So has Kohberger.
