I assumed the large amount (over 5K, I was buying 3 tix per event) was part of the reason for denial. And when I switched to debit when I still had the full order, message from bank was that it was declined due to exceeding limit.
Oh yeah, limits.

Congrats to everyone who got their tickets today! Makes me wonder how the interest is if so many of us got slots on day 1 and 2.

I am 100% convinced that they will have to fill in the empty Cat A seats with sponsors, schools and etc. Especially for short programs. Just like it happened in Torino. If only there was a simpler solution (aka pricing them decently):wall:

I'm in a couple Oly planning FB groups. Definitely some griping about the cheapest figure skating ticket being $280. Although they seem more like casual fans who just bought tix for other events. Diehards like us bought.

For those who have yet to purchase....from what i gather from reading about people's credit card issues (and oh, there are a lot), it seems that Capital One cards worked fine after text verification, BoA worked after a phone call, Chase is a cluster, and Mastercard may work better than Visa.

ETA: And another bizarre thing during the ordering. I got the RD tix in my cart, no problem, then when I clicked to select FD, I got a pop-up about a "Ticket Assistant" and I had to wait 3 minutes to see if my tix were available due to high demand. But I could see under the pop-up that they were in my cart. Then pop-up tells me they aren't available. Then why are they in my cart? Anyway, I kept going with my order for the men. Second time through after card declines, no such pop-up so maybe it was due to the beginning of sales when everyone was clicking.

MASSIVE shoutout to @Debbie S for waking up before 4am to get our tickets!!!! I still haven’t gotten my time slot email yet. Going to try to get the Thursday night short track event whenever I get mine. So excited for my second Olympics!!!! I hope it’s as magical as Vancouver was (minus Tanith and Ben being robbed of the bronze 😩)

I'm hoping we get to move. I decided to get the Team event short program tickets. It's on Friday morning and I do expect an empty arena.

Accommodations worry me but airfare not so much, we will be flying from Israel I think and there’s not huge winter sports fandom there.

And I also got the “ticket assistant “ for the Men’s free for three anxious minutes. Also good thing I looked because I had selected Category A for the RD, and although I’m probably the only one who loves all that silly music, three tickets were $$$$. Managed to switch to B.

We went to Paris for the summer games and the hotel rooms dropped as we got closer. They were pretty much at normal rates by the times the games were actually played.

Well, I decided to let the skate gods decide if I will go. Since there were no cheap tickets left this morning when I woke up I will wait for the resale portal and see if any come up. I would probably go alone so only needing to snag one should help.

There will be a purchase round in April that will be open to everyone, whether you are in the draw or not. I've read that cheaper tickets do tend to get released during this round. 🤞

The school district is gonna be so angry since it buts up against winter intercession, but they do nothing that week so whatever. I'll get so many truancy phone calls.

This is not legal advice 😉 but you can always ask your district if they offer short term independent study, which will excuse those days and avoid the truancy phone calls.

This is a brilliant idea. We got threatening letters and phone calls when Mini was out due to the fact we flew back to LA when my FIL was dying. They were so awful about it despite this being a legitimate reason to miss school. It made a more stressful time worse.

I emailed the district even though it is a year in advance. Kids now do everything in the iPad anyway, so he can keep up easily when we travel. It's a week before a break so they don't do much.

I thought it was just me having these issues with the pop-ups and card blocks. Very frustrating but was finally able to grab my events.

OMFG. Is it too early in the day to start drinking?

My first card (the one w/o foreign transaction fees) was declined. I spent over 30 minutes on phone with 2 different people at Chase, lost my tix, went back to do the events individually. Nothing worked, Chase said it was the merchant, not them, nothing more they could do.

Tried my debit card, bank sent me text to verify, had me go to mobile app, still declined. Tried calling fraud number, they aren't open 24/7. How comforting.

Tried my second cc. Still declined, called BoA. Fraud guy finally got it to work. I had him stay on the line with me while I did the other orders. Problem again with the Men FS but went through. He'll probably have a nice laugh with his colleagues in the break room over the panicked American trying to buy Oly tickets.

But I got the tix! RD, FD, Men FS! I'm going to the Olympics!
I had exact same experience! Chase is the WORST!!!

So I have heard seats for men's FS are sold out.
Are they adding new seats for next group?

I was worried about using Chase based on other feedback here, but I had no trouble doing it - went through on first try. No validation or security code/calls needed. I don't know if that's a good thing when it comes to security, but it was handy to checkout!

I don't use my Chase United MileagePlus card all that often at home for European purchases, because I tend to plan my trips as I go rather than buying a bunch of tickets in advance. But I have used it on some occasions, and the most I've ever had to do is field a text. Perhaps security procedures vary for different Chase cards?

Usually I only have to field a text, as well...and in this instance, I called the bank the day before to alert them that I was planning a large ticket purchase in a foreign currency. Still had big issues. Glad it's not necessarily across the board for all.

Same here. I got a text to verify once (a $200 airline ticket purchase....but no text for a $2300 airline purchase 🤨 ) but I've never had a problem buying anything abroad, including tickets to some attractions in Amsterdam that I bought in advance.

I called Chase yesterday to tell them I would be making a large purchase and they told me they couldn't do anything to help in advance, I should call them if it got declined and the text verification didn't work.

I wanted to use my Chase card b/c it doesn't charge foreign transaction fees. With my BoA card, it was about $43 total over the 3 separate orders, a little less than 1%. My friends and I will live, but not being able to use the Chase card was really irritating.

I guess the high cost of Olympic tickets could be an issue. None of my purchases from foreign websites have been very costly. It's maddening when you can foresee a problem but can't (apparently) do anything to avoid it, and it's worse when you end up paying foreign-usage fees and/or can't use an airline-miles card you were planning to trot out.

I picked Cap One years ago because no foreign usage fees, that’s a godsend for those who travel a lot or live in two places. But this might be the largest single charge ever. If interest rates weren’t so high, I’d pay it off over 2-3 months, but not at the rates they’re charging these days.

Well I booked an air b&b in Milan, I was there for worlds and all the seats were pretty good. I should be volunteering, but did pick up a hockey ticket. I have other ways of seeing the skating and short track. I debated opening ceremonies but figured it’s good on tv a the will likely have a viewing area downtown. Excited.

No shit. But we got tickets to RD/FD and both Men's segments (had to wait an extra three nail-biting minutes for Men's Free.)

I'm finally going to the Olympics! :cheer:

ETA: And bless good ole Cap One. They did hold up the transaction til I confirmed by code and text message but it went through. I would HOPE they would flag a transaction for thousands of Euros at 4 in the morning EST.
I got tickets for RD (took 6 minutes wait time with the „assistent“), Men short and Free Dance. We have 2 apps for verifying card transactions with this German bank I use, one had deinstalled itself, so I had to wait for it to download -without wifi. But: I made the whole thing in 21 minutes.

Smart choice re the opening ceremony. While it looks great on the TV it's not much when sitting there. I enjoyed the general rehearsal much more than the actual one (no, not because of the snowflake that did not malfunction during the rehearsal:))

Can anyone confirm whether new blocks of tickets are made available every day or are some events/price tiers really sold out?
