Anastasia Galustyan is keeping both her programs for next season according to her instagram

So this should mean:

SP: I dreamed a dream (S. Boyle)
FS: Anna Karenina

Best thing about that post: 'Hey girls, don't touch my music!' :p

(though I can totally see @alchemy void in complete denial and believing she will keep 'color of the night' ;) )

I'm always in denial. About everything.

She also posted

More from the Shpilband recycling program!

He is doing himself NO favors doing this shit! Quite frankly, Tarasova was right when she said that the split between these two was going to be hard to recover from because They were opposites, meaning their strengths and weaknesses complemented one another.

Still, Igor and Marina tried to make a science of dance and the scoring system encouraged it. Igor's creativity is limited to elements if you ask me. As far as giving a team a style and a look, he imposes one on a team and it's nothing organic. His recycling of old music is because by and large, he's not an artist. He is aware of what great art looks like but that's it. I hope that he's interviewing choreographers to do work for him after this Olympic cycle. Marina's absence is felt. At least she was smart enough to hire technical specialists to help fill his position. I think that he hasn't really accepted his handicap. Madison and Evan have used different choreographers and they look the damn same.

Scenarios for those who are so adamantly against reusing programs, because I am curious.

Skater A changes to a new short program halfway through the pre-Olympic season. He debuts it at his Nationals, but even though the program itself is received well the jumps are...not so much. His season ends there. He chooses to use the same short program for the Olympic season. Is this unacceptable recycling to you?

Skater B has a beautifully choreographed free skate, with which he wins Senior B events and medals at a GP. Unfortunately, he is then injured, ending his season. The next season he chooses to retain the free skate, taking advantage of a new maturity in his skating. Is this unacceptable recycling to you?

Skater F had a free skate choreographed for him by one of the top choreographers, but before he could compete it, suffered a devastating injury. Skater F even announces his retirement for a short time. When Skater F returns, he chooses to use the the free skate that had been made for two seasons prior. Is this unacceptable recycling to you?

Skater F also had a short program that he was best-known for and had originally planned to re-use for the following season, prior to his injury. As he is now returning three seasons after the program's debut, he chooses to use it again as he feels his way back into competition. Is this unacceptable recycling to you?

I am very curious, because there seem to be a lot of anti-reuse people here who think programs should absolutely be used only once and then never again, whereas I think, for example, that skater A and B, and F's FS, are perfectly acceptable scenarios to reuse a program. (I don't think F's SP scenario is likely.)

I also think going back to a music selection that you had several years ago and doing a new program to it is actually a worthwhile project that I'd like to see more skaters do.

It would be interesting to see skaters revisit musical selections years later when they mature and improved their performance quality. Kostner did a wonderful job revisiting Pachelbel's Canon in D in the 2006-2007 season and of course Shizuka won her Olympics when she did Turandot for a third non-consecutive season.

Agreed!

I also don't mind going back to an old program rather than be disappointed with a new one. I find so few Olympic year programs are ones I want to re-watch.

My reading comprehension is incredible!:encore:

I was distracted by Adoniev's nasal spray and eye drops in bed. :p

COTN deserves a second season, and it didn't even get one full season. It's available, girls....

I would support Pogo skating to COTN, she could bring some good drama to the piece :glamor:

Recycled programs can be tricky in an Olympic year. It really depends on the mix of judges. Some think nothing of it, others shake their heads and give it two thumbs down. I am not a huge fan of recycled programs, but if it saves us from a really cringeworthy vocal thrown together, then I fully support it. Yes, I am still in full Dick Button mode when it comes to vocals. :barrel

I think most of those are all acceptable to me, if for whatever reason a skater didn't have the opportunity to skate their program enough. My issue is more with the top skaters who have many resources and opportunities who have had a full season of skating, for the Olympic season I would like something new. Any other season I'm less bothered. i loved Muse as skated by Duhamal an Radford, but I'm not excited to hear and see it again.

I know I'm probably in the minority, but this is why I am not an Ashley fan. Isn't she like 24 or something? She's too old to be shimmying and shaking her tatas on the ice, nor does she have the right body type for it.

I'm so uncomfortable :slinkaway:slinkaway

I am worried about which 'girls' you want to see shimmying. Last I checked, the rest of the competitors were 16 years old (aka grade 10 of high school), with zero breasts, and even less hips.

Which kind of girl, or body should be shimmying?

...worried for the youth

Yes, I realize that she has a personality (which I love, off ice), so I don't know why she has to keep attempting to portray it in a superficial and forced "sassiness.".

I am 100% with you in the "minority".....:D and i am going to once say the following, so hopefully i can then forever hold my peace.

I can't decide which one she is trying to be....
Olivia Newton John...... https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/61/64/57/616457ed5ee0d83ff66f66b3e2abb9b7.jpg
or Norma Desmond.... https://media.giphy.com/media/11myV77GyYC8eI/giphy.gif

.. but the worst one is when she is trying to be "femme fatale" or "profound", like you said, she does not have the looks or the body for it...

My favorite comment in the film "Cabaret" is when Micheal York tells Liza Minnelli "stop acting like femme fatale, you're as fatale as an after-dinner mint"...

Ashley looks perfectly NORMAL and attractive when she is not "inventing an unfitting image to reflect a personality she does not naturally have"....
When she practices, she looks GOOD! EVEN BETTER than good..... normal face, normal body movements.....

pretty girl, when she is acting natuaraly.....

.... and then come "people around"...... and she start posturing and making silly-look faces.. that have nothing to do with characters she is portraying, but rather her internal image of how she should appear in public, and what supposedly looks good.

wish someone told her to stop it. she can be a good skater, but it is soooooo hard to look at her. honestly.

.

Ashley has a nice body, I don´t understand what are you saying. Her body is like that of most of women figure skaters, so if you have problem with Ashley, you have problem with each skater (Except Liza), trying skate/dance/look sexy?

Pogo: femme fatale (even in despair!)
Ashley: girl next door trying to be femme fatale
You really dont see the difference?

Exactly, the first time I saw videos of her training, I was shocked. She looked so different without all that make up, so fresh faced. She's really pretty au naturel and it's less work if you ask me. A strip-down look would be a great change for her. Is she worried her skating won't be able to do the talking on its own ? And this is no snark from me it's just I don't follow singles so closely so I was just wondering.

Yeah, because everyone knows the no-makeup look works GREAT for performers in front of crowds. Especially when they're also being televised. How about we bring a smidgen of realism into this conversation?

I never said no make-up, there is a difference between no makeup and a ton of it. She could surely tone it down, it just doesn't suit her, it hardens her features is all I'm saying. But OK like everything else it's a question of taste.

Interesting you should say that. I just got a brochure from the Metropolitan Opera about its new season and on the cover is a photo of two singers, singing, wearing no makeup at all. They seem to be costumed (if the opera is updated by a couple of centuries). It made me curious. Maybe it was just for the brochure to break down the "wall" between opera and regular folk.

Anyway, there is plenty of middle ground for a less vampy look for Ashley. Probably not gonna happen though as she seems wed to this self-image, and it is part of her overall package that the judges are buying.

^^haha

But to the broader point the poster who brought that up was trying to make, I do think US ladies are encouraged, maybe even required, to place a significant emphasis on having a made up, "complete" look. The significant emphasis on this can stunt their development, IMO.

The men as far as I know don't wear makeup - certainly not rouge, eye shadow, etc. - and they seem to relate to the audience and show up on TV. I think the requirement of being totally painted must be a turn off to a lot of girls, I'd like to see one elite just say she not going to do it.

She's looking at "The Fools Who Dream," as I guessed. Hope it works out. That could be an amazing program for her, one she could really feel.

Actually the guys wear makeup as well - probably just some basic foundation. Here's a video from Skate America from 2011 where you Natalie Pechalat applying makeup to Fabian before the competition.
