2017-2018 Program Music and Choreographers

I am kind of wondering what age he wants to see a woman shimmying and shaking?? :slinkaway
I should have known better, lol.

What I meant was, at least for me, the sassy/shimmy program doesn't really make it on the ice unless that's all you've got, which is why (IMO) it usually works well for much younger competitors attempting to sell a program. I think Ashley is far better than that.

Off ice, I'm all for anyone at any age shaking his/her booty anytime, anywhere. :EVILLE:

It's a video of Elvira, mistress of the dark, swinging her boob tassels around in a glorious fashion. I was able to find some GIFs to reinact the YouTube video (this is potentially NSFW, but she's covered!)

:saint: theres no such thing as a bad shimmy! :drama: (Someone had to lighten it up in here it was getting hella creepy with the underage stuff, my apologies if I offended anyone with this. But just let Elvira's tassels hypnotize you and calm down)

The program worked well for Ashley and she made some great memories with it, it's comfortable, and I'll be thrilled to see it again as long as she's revamping it like she did with MR vol. 2

I'm late to the party here, but seriously?

I know I'm probably in the minority, but this is why I am not an Ashley fan. Isn't she like 24 or something? She's too old to be shimmying and shaking her tatas on the ice, nor does she have the right body type for it.

Yes, I realize that she has a personality (which I love, off ice), so I don't know why she has to keep attempting to portray it in a superficial and forced "sassiness."

I'd rather see her skate to something strong and gutsy, which seems to be her real personality.

I'm sick & tired of skaters rehashing old programs during Olympic seasons. Every top contender should show us two brand-new competitive programs in Olympics Season! Olympics is becoming an Oldies Hit Parade.

I agree with @Frau Muller , what's the deal with bringing back an old program for the Olympic season? When Sale/Pelletier did, I was turned off. Of course I can understand skaters coming from smaller federations with limited money for choreo and outfits, they can keep their programs two seasons in a row and I'd happily cheer for them. But a top skater like Ashley... And it's not even that she's keeping her program, she's digging up something from seasons ago. (It has nothing to do with the type of program). Maybe there's a reason we don't see it that often? I was ok with Carolina bringing back Canon, as it was the same music with new choreo. She was very young when she used it the first time and probably felt she could do even better things artistically with it when she was older and more mature, and she could. It was a gift to us skating fans.

I'm of course truly selfish and want new, fresh programs for the Olympics. That a skater is able to deliver that year after year is a quality mark. Watch queen Akiko Suzuki.

I don't understand why Schez is left on Frank's doorstep because Linda skated to it in the 70's? Michelle went from skating to music that practically no one heard of to skating to music that wasn't original at all. Even then the schez music wasn't bad, the program was just empty, not empty like the rest of her future programs but definitely on the way. The only thing that changed was her coach and choregrapher. Anyway.... back to next season's music. lol

Well, I don't think Schez was that empty.

From the first versions, I like the opening (with the arms movement and the back spiral, which felt like opening a book and letting the storytelling begin). Then there were a few little steps between the 3 salchow and the first lutz (not my favorite part, but it went kinda ok with the music. She changed it later anyway to a spread eagle).

The beginning of the slow section, seducing mode on. After the axel, lovely slow kick leg and arm movements on point with the music. Then, the 3 flip going directly into the layback (which ends with a little hop, which unfortunately she didn't keep later in the season).

As Dick mentions, timing for the COE spiral at Skate America wasn't so great, but it was much improved later (and that climax is definitely calling for that spiral, and I definitely prefer Kwan's to, well Kim's). That COE spiral goes directly into the combination spin, which is followed by the Charlotte spiral.

Final section was good when Kwan went into her footwork with speed and ended with the double split falling leaves (like at Nationals and Worlds).

I LOVE Schez. I feel that the music edit and layout (and gorgeous last dress) were OGM material. It is sad that we never got to see a perfect 7 triples version of it, but I just don't agree it was empty. Kwan's portrayal of the character was the best of any Schez in my book. You could say Ito or Kim's programs were better overall but in terms of choreography and interpretation, I still prefer Michelle's which perfectly suited the character portraying of Scheherazade (some might even say that in Salt Lake City, Kwan's stress enhanced that interpretation, because she skated like she had to save her head..). Yu-Na Kim's Schez was so strong that it didn't feel like Scheherazade was vulnerable at all.

Anyway, even with empty programs like The Red Violin (at Worlds), Aranjuez or Tosca, Kwan delivered some terrific performances. Okay, I went way off-topic, but I like Schez that much haha.

Back to 2017-18 music,
I don't mind Ashley recycling her SP. I wouldn't even mind her recycling Moulin Rouge lol. (I was underwhelmed by La La Land's music, but we'll see what Ashley will come up with.)

It's bad enough when skaters recycle their own programs for their Olympics, as Linda Fratianne did with Carmen (1979 & 1980).

Linda's Carmen:

It's downright BIZARRE when another skater takes an entire past program from another skater & skates it at the next Olympics (Manuela Ruben in 1984, attempting to skate Fratianne's Carmen). Was Ruben's coach Carlo Fassi trying to send some weird message?

Manuela's Carmen:

Copyright laws must not apply to skating choreography but, still, it was somewhat creepy to see Linda's program skated by Manuela four years later, especially because of our knowledge of Fassi's machinations in the 1980 results.

Imagine if, say, Maria Sotskova would show up next year skating Ashley's Moulin Rouge LP with exact same steps and cuts of music.

I am too. I know how challenging it is for the skaters, but I still want new material, especially from my faves, because I have already watched every performance and then again and again on youtube. But I guess that's my problem, lol. I don't mind when a skater or team uses the same program because their season was cut short due to injury etc. and we didn't get to see it much anyway.

Not sure if it was mentioned already here, but Duhamel & Radford are going back to their Muse program from a few seasons ago. Re-vamped of course. I was a little disappointed but will wait patiently to see what they come up with :)

I think Chin is a great vehicle for Ashley - and she improved it a lot before worlds. Not sure Ashley has the gas left to run for an OLy medal. It will take all she's got to work up a competitive long. I didn't see LaLa but the cuts on YouTube sound generic show-tune. I'm a little worried.

I don't want La La Land either :( Also I say no - to comeback of Cin, Cin, ultimate blah reaction when I read it - hopefully she can change her mind - it seems based on her lack of confidence. I'd like two new programs from Ashley, preferably something grandiose, extrovertic & with attack. Top skaters need it. Something a la Samson & Delilah again would be great.

Oh my, couldn't Ross come up with something better to finish his career?
Come on buddy! I pray for the short then :drama:

#teamminer
#untilthebitterend

My guess is to save money and to skate to something he likes.
I wouldn't say Ross has zero chance, but I have to think at least 2 of the US men selected for Korea will have and complete solid quads in both programs. Among the (potentially) quadless, it's tough to get past Adam or Jason. That blocks out the Miners and Johnsons, etc.
So I think the focus might be all on tech because for these fringe guys that's their only hope to come through.

Kill. me. now. I may not watch a single SD next year, I fricking hate Latin dances. All of them.

In many ways I agree, especially with tangos.
But I'm loving the rhumba, especially. With the amount of heat in this field I may break out into a cold sweat watching a number of the teams. I'm down.

Is this new new or what they were working on last season they never got to skate?
The latter. Excerpt from a recent Icenetwork article on Coomes' recovery:
They're planning a visit to Christopher Dean, who is going to choreograph their new rumba short dance at the beginning of May.
...
The team plans to keep its free dance from last season, which they never performed and which they choreographed themselves, to "Battle Remembered" by Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble. They have ideas for their short dance music but haven't settled on anything yet.
Buckland was quoted in the Europe on Ice article back in February:
“It’s music inspired by journeys along the Silk Road,” Buckland explained. “It’s one piece and we haven’t edited it. It’s got changes of tempo in it so it’s perfect. It starts slow and it builds.”

Yes, it was mentioned in this thread back on April 6 but the link to their Facebook post, written by Meagan, was not posted: https://www.facebook.com/DuhamelRadford/posts/1225282057520402
We are excited to have a new choreographer join our team, along with Julie, to create a new short program.
And even bigger news is that we will be revamping and refreshing our "Muse" long program from 2014/2015 to use for next season. We are a different team that we were two years ago and we know we can take what was great about this program and allow it to grow even more.
I posted the link to a Jordan Moeller article in the U.S. Men's thread - excerpt re. his 2017-18 programs:
Moeller said he has begun brainstorming and working with Rohene Ward to figure out his programs for this upcoming season. Moeller said he has started a new short program with Ward to the piece called “Tribal Gathering” performed by violinist Vanessa-Mae.
“It is going to be pretty exciting,” Moeller said, about his new short program.
As of right now, Moeller said he is planning to keep his Romeo and Juliet free skate from this past season so he can continue working and growing it.
Alexander Johnson's latest blog post mentioned he is working with Tom Dickson but didn't reveal specific music.

Hell yeah :encore:
Terrific choices!

I loved loved loved their 'magnificat' short program! So happy to see it again for one season!
:encore:

FS choice is great too and regarding the fact, that worlds are in Milano, bringing 'The tree of life' back to Milano is a great idea for sure. :respec:

Great choices folks, great choices!
